I'm a fan of how pretty you've made the layout of this tutorial thread. The colors are nice and easy on the eyes.
Appearances aside, Vespian approves of your use of images as well as step-by-step explanations. *Nuzzles.*
This'll come in handy, there is no doubt. Thank you for taking the time to teach a little something to the community.

Thank you so much, Lucius! You've done an excellent job with this. I love the color and also the structure of this thread.
I'll have to try out the eye reflection some time! Great work

I've been wanting to try out the eye/nose reflection but didn't know where to start, thank you so much for this!
I'll definitely be using it sometime.

Thank you so much for providing the community with an organised/well-structured tutorial on the tips and tricks you can do with a preset when using the correct coding. I love how easy it is to find everything and an excellent use of images.

This tutorial is amazing! Thank you very much for bringing the outline effect for presets further into the light! The tutorial was also very easy to follow and the colors made it easy to read. +floof!

Thanks for taking the time to look at this everyone!

I am currently working on a tutorial on how to implement Toon Shading (or Cel Shading as it's called in OGRE) and various other shaders that require extra files (like Outline) into a .fhp preset file that won't require everyone else downloading extra files to see these effects.

Stay tuned, it'll take some more time since I'm juggling college and everything else.

It's a good thing you posted because I don't think I would've ever stumbled upon this thread o:

Really love how it's structured and how you go in depth just in enough with the explanations to make it both easy to follow and nice to learn <33
Truly well done. Looking forward to future updates c:

If you only wanted to view objects with the outlines or cell shading, not create them, where would you put the files?  (the cellshading i thought was here has gone missing)
Title: Re: Preset Tips and Scripts (Updated with Outline)

I never linked the cellshading files in this thread, but they can be found here (http://ogre3d.org/tikiwiki/Enhanced+CelShading).

Under the section "The Code", you will have to download CelShading.material, CelShading.program and CelShading.cg.

The outline codes can be found on the same page, under the section "Edge Outline Vertex Shader Experiment". They are the Outline.material, Outline.program and VertEdge.cg files.

They must be placed in the FeralHeart\media\materials folder if you want to view the effects.

If you ever want to use them in presets, you'll have to put them in your numbered preset folder as well.

Updated the OP with a mane fix for the rim lights, a new transparency code, and a new preset tutorial.

I am still working on that tool to let you guys insert files into presets in order to fix the cell shading and outline problem.

I've updated the OP with higher resolution UV maps for both feline and canine, which include mane and tuft UVs.

Title: Re: Preset Tips and Scripts (Updated with Fluffy Mane Fix)
Post by: Lucius on February 19, 2018, 12:51:27 am
Updated the OP with a fix for the Fluffy Mane not working in presets.

Let me know if presets with the fix export correctly, since I haven't had time to thoroughly test it. I've only looked at it in the preset maker.

Edit: Works as intended. Exported without problems.

Can I use the normal spiky mane file for the fluffy mane?
Title: Re: Preset Tips and Scripts (Updated with Fluffy Mane Fix)
Post by: Lucius on February 19, 2018, 01:06:09 am
Possibly. I've overlaid the UVs for the regular and fluffy manes, and the transparent areas seem to match up, so hopefully it'll look fine.

Edit: Looks a bit weird to me.

You could try masking the lower portion of the spiked mane with the FManeMask2 texture and see if that makes it look better. Otherwise, I think you'd be better off using 2 different mane textures for the fluffy and spiked.

Edit: Apparently the texture for the normal and fluffy mane must be the same. The game only loads the textures for the default body parts defined in the material file, so you also have to keep the normal mane section in, regardless of whether or not you actually use it. Disappointing to see that you can't use separate textures, but it is what it is.

however , i think i might've stumbled across one problem ...
when exporting a preset with the glowing outline effect , it always says that it failed to export .
i followed the instructions and the effect shows up when i'm in the preset maker .
i can provide screenshots if needed .

i'm sorry if i've posted in the wrong place !!   ;v;

Hey there! I've heard of this happening, but I'm not sure if there's a fix for it. I'd be more than happy to try and help you though!

If you could copy and paste your material file code so that I can run through it, that'd be great. If you'd rather not post it publicly, then you can always pm me instead.

Cheers!

I don't mean to sound belligerent, but did you even read the original post? How are any of the things I've shown "old news"?

I will concede that Brokami appeared to be the first to implement eye reflections in their "FeralHeart HD" mod back in 2014 (which was later removed by them), but they've never showed others how to do it. I went through trial and error to figure out how to replicate the effect 3 years later.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but I have not seen a single tutorial on this website in regards to using rim lighting before I added it to my thread. I also haven't seen anyone release the UVs for the manes and tufts, and I've certainly never seen a fix for the fluffy mane issue either.

If you already knew how to do all of this, then it will be old news to you, but that isn't the case for many users. Not to mention the fact that this thread is just under a year old and has been kept updated since its creation.

Edit: Re-reading this now, I can see that I might have come across as hostile. That wasn't my intention, I assure you.

Title: Re: Preset Tips and Scripts || Updated with Iridescence
Post by: Lucius on September 23, 2019, 08:38:05 pm
Yesterday, someone asked me if it was possible to create an iridescent effect on presets, so the first post has been updated with the code that I've given them to try and achieve this effect. I should have had this updated a few months back, but the preset I was working on just never ended up getting finished, so that's that.

I also have to clean the first post and replace all the images from Photobucket because apparently the site just hates me.

funny you should say that,  actually recently worked out iridescent presets! (check it out if you're on the feral neighborhood discord!) your method is a lot less convoluted though hahaha!
