Title: Linking together Maps
Post by: Koyoss on July 03, 2011, 04:31:35 am
I've seen plenty of people ask me and other map makers about this topic, so here, I'll tell you what'cha need to do :U

Step 1) Open up one of the two or more maps in FH map maker.
Step 2) Go to where you want a person to appear and write down the coordinates.
Step 3) Open the map that you wish to link to, and then go to the object tab, you should see this.. (Don't mind my purpleness >V)(Where stuff is black, it means stuff is going to be blank :P)

Step 4) Write the name of the map your linking it to here
(http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/2716/map3w.png)

Step 5) Put in the coordinates you gathered earlier, in my case, it looks like this.

Step 6) Press "New Gate" to make either a portal appear, or check the Black Material box to make a cave entrance like the one at Ficho.
Step 7) Place the portal.  It acts like an object.  In the controls area, you can use the Y-scale on the object to make it larger or smaller.  You can also use Pitch, Yaw, and Roll.
Step 8] After you place it, write down the coordinates from THIS map on where you want them to appear when entering, and save.
Step 9) Go to the other map, and repeat the procees.  Remember to put the portal/cave entrance near where you put where your character appears at!

I know many people were wondering about this, so I helped!~ :D   Hope this helps.  If you have any questions, ask here or PM me about it.

EDIT:~

When entering a name for the map your linking it to, you MUST link its Map Name, and NOT its Map Display Name.  You must match it perfectly,  because its case sensitive!

I followed everything you said, it still isn't working for me.

I'm not quite sure what I am doing wrong. When I go to test it out in game, it says File Map can not be found. Do I need to to put linkingmap.fhm in the box instead of Linking Map for the title?

Yeah I made up a random name, so sue me.

Put in the map name, the name you'd see when changing files in the box.  Because you can't use spaces when making the title on the map, It'd be something like LinkingMap if I were you, whatever you put in for the map name above the title o3o

Actja, follow this tutorial only to step 2 if you doing that.  Move you camera down to the ground, then put your mouse where you want it to appear.  This usually fixes it for me if it appears in the air.

I followed this tutorial to a T and it's not working. I run my character into the portal and a window pops up that says cannot find Map file. and when I go to check it it adds .Map to the end of my Map's name, I change the name back, or even to a different map and it keeps coming back as the original Map Name plus the .Map.... what is wrong? Can someone help me?

I think its on the second tab in Map Maker, theres a box called "Sky" or something. Untick it and the sky will go away and the cave ceiling will show. If you cant see it your too high so you have to lower the camera a bit to see.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I can't find the answer to this anywhere. I'm trying to link my map to Bonfire Island, but no matter what I do it cannot find the map.

I've tried:

fhBonfireIsland.fhm
fhBonfireIsland
BonefireIsland

None of these work. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here?

You have to export your map then all the files will appear in the Exports folder. Files include .fhm( (map file), .fho (the objects), .fhs (the sky if you added one to the map), .fhw (the weather if you added it) Find these files the way you named them for example BonfireIsland.fhm and all the object groups you used and put them in a folder to upload.

No, if you are on the first tab the coordinates are where the portal goes to Cape. On the Object tab is where you type in the map name and coordinates of where your character will end up.

To you map, you just need to make the base dark grey and the edges of the canvas white, then your walls will come up. I will give you example if you like.

Step 2) Go to where you want a person to appear and write down the coordinates.

But are you talking about the portal placing or the arrival destination?

So many people have questions.... I can -attempt- to explain this on the simplest way possible (since I find tricks to doing stuff easily) but I do not really want to constantly jam this thread with my help.... so if you have something you need help with and want a simple and easy explanation just PM me or link me to your help.thread :3 sorry for spamming a bit... I just noticed so many unanswered questions and so many confused FeralHearters... I wanted to help xD
