Wowowow, I am absolutely 100% interested!

I'm definitely interested in this! This would be one of the more unique mods I've seen in a long time.
Best of luck with your project, however you decide to do it!
-
100% loving this! keep up the awesome work! ;D
-
Oh my goodness! Yes please! I would absolutely LOVE to have this as an option for my characters! It looks amazing thus far, Lucius!
-
It's awesome! ;D
-
It's cool, but is it an item? Other mane replaces i've seen ...actually i'm too dumb to figure out what weight painting is, ignore me, i just think it's cool you did this.

Very cool! I actually think it would be good for roleplayers. And I'm excited to see what it might look like when I make a new character! It's amazing what you are doing, keep it up! :D

That's the problem, manes don't move with more than one bone (aka, forehead). For a full-body model, you need to make it move with more than one bone, and the item maker doesn't allow for that. I'd have to split the model into one part for each bone, and that would come down to about 6+ items for the whole thing.
As a tuft replacement, it gets to keep the multiple bone assignments.
Weight painting is essentially painting bone weights onto the model, i.e., how much influence will a bone have over a specific part of a mesh (or, to what extent will the mesh deform to follow the bone).
Good news, figured out how to make the tufts change color with the pelt and underfur.
Bad news, in order for that to work, the tufts need to share an existing material with the body/head/whatever. And if they're sharing the same material, then they're going to have to use the same textures. For some reason, creating a new material, even if it's referencing the existing .CG and .PROGRAM files just doesn't work.
So I moved the UVs to conform to the space that the body uses. Now I have to figure out how to wrangle the material file of the canine body to allow for transparency without breaking anything.
Another interesting option could be to use the CmaneMat2 that's included in the material file despite the canines not using / having a "fluffy" mane like the lion does. I suppose that'd make it less risky to edit. It would make the tufts change color with the mane though.
Interest appears healthy, so I'll keep tinkering with this and see if I can work out a first demo tuft with transparency and color changing.

This is an incredible idea, Lucius, and I am very interested in seeing this become a thing. :D

Wait, are you saying this would alloqw more items on the player? I don’t fully understand. Looks pretty cool though. :)
-
Ooh love this idea, it'd be great to have more options for tufts and whatnot. I'm definitely interested.~

I believe they're tufts, not items, just like we have the elbow and leg tufts etc already for the models. c:

I know that, but nvm I reread the thread again and I understand now. Thanks for trying to help though :)
