Title: The Solar Eclipse!
Post by: Warriorstrike on August 21, 2017, 05:12:37 pm
SPACE.

For those whom will be able to experience the solar eclipse today, are you excited? Will you be viewing it today? Will you watch outside or through a news outlet, if at all? Did you purchase glasses? Are you in the path of totality? Is the eclipse something you consider to be special or important-- why or why not?

I have solar glasses to watch it, just got back in from looking. Looks like it's halfway there. Where I am we'll see totality, I plan on getting a pic of totality.

I'm still waiting for it here actually. Don't have glasses or anything BUT maybe my phone pointing behind my head snapping pictures will work I dunno. I just hope it happens cause it got really dim here for a bit (not totally dusky like it should though) and lightened back up? And where I am it's supposed to get quite dark.

Eclipse just passed, my sister got a pretty good pic of it.

I'm on the wrong side of the earth for it but...

You can wear welding mask, or make a pin hole camera to view it from a cardboard box, a sheet of waxed paper and a towel.
Or find a broken LCD screen and often those had the 2 layers of polarized plastic in them? at least the old ones did.
Take the 2 tinted sheets from the screen and hold them over one another and twist one sideways so it's now a "vertical A4 sheet of paper" in contrast to the other "Horizontal sheet of paper" way.. this should adjust the brightness.  Happy viewing.

Update: It was a ripoff here. It got a bit dim and  trippy but that was it. Still neat but wish it would have been a bit more exciting. Oh well! xD

Vespian got curious.
Vespian stared right into it directly.
No protection.
Worst .001 second of my life.
It hurt.
It still hurts.
Teivel's still laughing at me.

All it did here was dim a bit to the point the shadows were visibly darker... I feel the same as Azura ^ xD

I did that too, by accident though. I thought it was still safe to look at but the moon moved enough to make the light not so safe. Thankfully the spot I got from looking at it is already gone, but it lasted a few painful minutes.

I'm visiting family in Missouri right now and we all went outside to see it, but it got too cloudy so I didn't get to see the sun that well. It was a bit disappointing.
I'm in the totality range so I got to see the world get dark like it was evening, but it only lasted a minute or so.

I didn't purchase any glasses, and had to watch it on the news, but it was still cool ^^ I wasn't in the path of totality, but I have a friend who was and he sent me a couple of really neat pictures

I wasn't in it's path but it seemed dimmer than usual around 2PM today, EST.
I spent the majority of the day watching it on the news and reading peoples aggressive comments about it on 4Chan. The usual.

Sadly I was not in its path... it got dim in the early afternoon, that was all. Someone I follow on instagram got pictures of it though so I did get to see some of it. Even if the pictures weren't entirely clear I can tell it must have been a truly amazing thing to witness (well, not directly of course lol).

I got to see around 98% totality, it was really wicked! I didn't purchase glasses (I ended up taking a few glances anyways) but we did make a projector and it was super neat to watch the progression of it.

damn clouds

I believe I was in the 75-90% totality range, which seems right based on my viewing. I bought a couple pairs of glasses off of amazon and headed to the local docs with my girlfriend and some school buddies. Luckily it was partly cloudy so I was able to briefly view it naked at a couple of points.

There were a lot of jellyfish at the docs for some reason, which was odd because I frequent the docs and have never seen even one there before. I read somewhere that the eclipse may distort their day/night behavior and they may have surfaced to feed? Sounds plausible. Forgive my ramblings, I'm a huge dork with this kind of stuff.
