I bet everyone of you have had one bald char before :D When I came to Fh, I was like: "OMFG! I hate those manes on all these characters!" Really, I mean it! I was like that XD But soon I realized that Its trend which often decides about your popularity and rank among players XD I hated it when I simply had to have mane on my chars at first. I got used to it later. But I still think about it.... Why the hell if you dont have mane, at mate center ur always alone? XDDD Why you have to have mane if you want to fit in rp? It just bugs me how people judge... Same for black colour... Black pitchies are also common view on this game :) What are your opinions?

When I first joined the game, I also found this a bit strange as well. Most of the characters that I used were felines, so I found no real reason to use a mane/hair (unless using a male lion.) I suppose with a canine, the "hair" would make more sense because some dogs and wolves have shaggier fur, yet it took me a while to realize that the game had some sparks of creativity and not everything was realistic, in the sense of creating a character identical to how a species would look in the wild. (Not to mention that some people portray their characters as species that do have hair, like humans.) I think it's nice to see users get imaginative with their characters, and I don't see why not if they've been given the tools to do so. Manes are fun, but all characters don't need them to make them look unique. c:
-
Man, for me it was the exact opposite.
When I first joined Feralheart, I couldn't stand having any characters without a mane. It just looked strange to me. Of course, throughout the years I've grown to appreciate it a lot more. Baldies are adorable.
-
Not having a mane adds some realism to it, however I have big difficulties using characters without one.
I do have two, though. A fox and a lioness.
I like both, it's just a personal preference to use one instead of not doing so. c:
-
Twist the timeline around and you got me. I never really had a character without a mane back then, but now I rarely make many characters with them at all except for a few. Sometimes it's just nicer to exclude it, other times it's apart of the design though and I'll gladly keep it there. :{P
So basically, what Edo said up there. Some bald characters can be nice, more realistic too. x3 Even if not aiming for realism, it's kinda nicer... I'm repeating myself, but meh, you get my point.
-
I make a lot of my characters with manes. I dunno, its just that the model looks a bit awkward without one sometimes, at least in my opinion. I do have a few non-maned characters, but that's usually because they only have a small tuft or some other item around their head. I don't hate non-maned characters at all, though! I just don't have many myself.
-
There are two words to describe the "popular" character fasion of FH:
TEENAGE ANGST
The more angst the better.
I'm kidding. Sort of. I'm not meaning to be rude though. Haha. xD
I dunno. I'm indifferent about it. I grew up hanging around TLKFAA where there was an equal mix of maned and bald characters, so I'm used to seeing both and don't mind either of them. But popularity still hung around the people with angsty chatacters. Or very TLK canon looking characters, or just canon artists in general. I don't think there was much of an inbetween... Beside maybe sparkle cats.
This is kind of off topic, but I remember following Kovu's art on TLKFAA and saw IT when it first came out. I kind of miss the old community before FH, to be honest... IT was crazy active compared to this place, if I remember correctly. Anyway. Yeah. I'm done reminiscing now.

When I joined FH, I enjoyed the thought of manes and used them with pleasure. I used to hate bald characters but now I actually own some myself, it really depends on the rest of the character to see if they'd go with their said 'baldness' in the game. My bald characters I do admire as well, so I guess I can say I like them.
-
I never took much attention to but- it bugs me when people get mad at people without manes bc its just an opinion tho? Like some people like realistic.

I second this.
I personally like the bald characters. Sometimes they look a bit odd if the rest of the character doesn't match them, but usually they look unique and interesting.

I must agree. I couldn't really get used to the look of some characters, especially felines, without manes. It might be because I was just used to 90% of the characters I saw, even in other games, with manes or fluffies. Something with the model made it especially strange-lookin'. I'm a bit more used to 'em now though.
-
I don't mind them. Actually I used to be one of those who judged literacy because of coloring and manes. But I realized that isn't right. But yeah, I have a few bald character. Though I don't use them much.
-
Personally, I don't really care! If having a bald character your thing, then go with it!
I use manes and tufts because it adds a fluffy feeling to my characters! I rarely use half/full manes, just the side mane, stuff like that. I do have a few characters that are "bald", usually these ones have the cheek tufts because I think the feline face is weird without that fluff.
It's all a matter of aesthetic to me-- a lot of my characters look ugly when bald, but some of my characters look weird when they're not. But even when they're bald, I use the back manes/cheek tufts, etc. I just can't live without that lmao
-
Yeah, I was having this issue with my sabertooth, Yippi. I was debating and doubting if should had a Mane because the manes that were listed didn't necessarily matched with the one on the picture. But point being, I can see where you're going with "bald" characters. Then again, without the mane, it does point out some realism. For example, female wolves. Female wolves does not have manes, as well as males. But then again, if they were to have manes, I would say male wolves would win. Anyway, really speaking I think it would be better if the female wolf/character was to not have a mane. Like, my character: Charity. She doesn't have one and looks really pretty.
It depends really and the style of the character.
-
I think I've always used manes on characters that looked nice with them. Of course, cats and such I avoided using manes. It really depends on how nice they look with or without them I guess.
-
eh i cant stand playing a character without a mane (although i dont mind seeing other bald characters) although i do have a new galaxy wolf character using one of goldchocobos presets... so i guess ill need to get used to it XD
-
When I joined I thought that bald characters were for people who liked to RP very realistic. But after a while I used the mane for so long I tried to use a character with out a mane, and Kolunga looks awesome.
-
For some characters, it simply makes sense for them to not have manes. Quite a few of my characters don't have manes, mostly being felines. Since, for custom felines characters, I tend to use either just normal ears or dragon ears, I prefer to not use a mane on a feline unless they are supposed to be fluffier. For felines that are supposed to have shorter hair, I tend to avoid using manes or tufts.
Although, tufts galore! I do quite enjoy using tufts on wolf models, as they are rather fluffy.
In the end, it doesn't matter whether you use manes and tufts creatively or realistically, as long as you are happy with the way a character comes out.
-
i don't mind bald characters that much
in my opinion it really depends on how the character looks
-
I remember when I first joined Feralheart, I HATED not having a mane on my characters. I thought it looked kind of weird, I don't know why. But now, I like the look of "bald" characters. I find characters look just as good with or without one. I myself have a wolf that doesn't have a mane. So yeah, I'm not at all bothered by them anymore. But I do think some characters just simply look better with a mane/without one. But then again, it's all personal preference.
-
i love bald characters!! personally, the hair is too anime for me to use all the time. for younger; or hairier characters sometimes. but i feel like bald characters are a lot more realistic ergo why about 80% of my characters are bald. however, it doesnt mean i dislike characters with hair, it can look pretty well on some!!
-
My first character was bald. i did not fill her up entirely she was named winged flyer her wings were normal colour and :l i deleted her because she was an old char
-
Oh, pft! I thought this meant BALD characters, as in like no fur at all--like those hairless cats. Hahaha. I suppose I prefer my characters with manes, myself. Although, in real life, I have long hair & it's my everything. :D I adore it & am always doing things with it, haha, so perhaps that's why!
-
^AgentPaws post was cute. xD
I have nothing against bald characters, but.. I love fluff too much to give it up, usually speaking. xD Epic mowhawks, big mane-poofs, little cheek fluffs, I love them all. Even my lionesses sometimes get some extra fluff on their legs or lining their faces, just because I like how it changes their silhouettes and adds more creative outlets (especially for color) onto the character itself.
-
I generally go with my instincts when creating a character. Some have hair, some don't--- it depends on what looks right on the character. So I have no preference, I just go with my gut. XD
-
As they say, FeralHeart users like to explore their character creations.
This even consists of bald, unusually coloured and odd-looking characters, not constant greys, blacks, whites, neons; some unusual characters might even have wings, and no tails, three legs, all sorts!
Personally, I love it when people don't have manes sometimes. I like to think that there is some sort of backstory, such as it being shaved off by hunters and the sort- but that's just my odd imagination. Some people prefer it on their wolves to look realistic, and only use certain tufts to add to the realism. I honestly could easily live without a mane- why? Because I would totally give my character extraordinary head markings to mane up for it. Or even better! I would be resourceful and use the small mane items that are available in the Legendary Items Pack. ;)
-
Bald characters on wolves look pretty strange to me. I'm so used to going around with lots of wolves and they all have manes. With cats, it kind of makes them look cute, because I'm used to some not having manes.
-
When I first joined FH, I personally just couldn't stand the look of canines without a mane. Over time, however, I've gotten used to the look, and now I find it pretty cute and unique ^^ All my characters have manes, but I like seeing a "bald" fluff run around at times
-
I'm perfectly fine with bald characters. :D
B.A.L.D = Beautiful, Amazing, Living, Doges.
-
My first character didn't have a mane, but I later added one because I liked the looks of it. On my characters, I'm not into realism, so I add the mane and make myself have flowing, fabulous locks ;) Over the years I have grown fond of both looks on other people. I don't look at a character without a mane and think that it's weird or ugly. Fine either way!
-
Bald characters I have to say I pretty cool after some time getting use to them, though I only use manes on canines to give them a tuft of hair on their heads. The felines look amazing without manes for rp like a lioness or a cat. With out a mane on a feline it looks amazing.
-
Ohhh how come I never saw this topic before xD?
Well I don't mind bald characters and have actually had a few before. What does bother me though is when I've had a character with a mane and then suddenly remove it xD Example there was this one time I decided to remove Sura's mane.... It was freaky lol. He felt so small and naked to me.
Honestly I don't like the canine manes too much and if we had more cool options for fur & tufts I would probably use those instead of manes. The feline manes are fab though :P Again though I wouldn't mind if we had more manes & tufts.
-
I see nothing wrong with bald characters, but sometimes I use manes, or tufts on my characters because it looks more realistic to me. :3
-
Personally, i HATE bald characters. I have eye-covers and full manes on all my canine characters, and cheek tufts on my felines. Bald characters aren't really my type.
-
For me, it really depends on the character. If I'm going for realism, then I usually wont use a mane(unless I'm being a male lion, then I'll use a mane depending on the age), but I will usually use tufts. If I'm being unrealistic, or using my artistic liberty, I'm going to use whatever fits that character, and 99% of the time, they have a mane lol
I do have a few "bald" characters too, such as Shortkit, my joke Warrior Cat oc, who I actually grew really attached to...
But really, it just depends on the person and their preferences. So long as someone is happy with their character, that's all that matters! c:
-
I say it depends on the character- and the character designs. I dont mind Lioness' being bald- but some of the warriorcats scare me when I see them. Wolves I definitely don't like bald because I was so use to seeing alot of fluffy Wolves.
-
It depends for me. Lionesses, I keep bald with the occasional cheek fluff. Male lions always have a mane, for me. Wolves? I haven't made any on this account yet, but they've historically had headfur almost 100% of the time. I think they're cuter that way! c:
-
Almost all of my kitties (and wolfies) that I use are bald (with the exception of Squint the Shinx plus some characters I don't use). I like them.
-
Depends on "baldness". I love characters with floofs all over their bodies but I really dislike the actual "human" hair. Depends on character aswell. Most of them (mostly felines) really rock their hairstyles, others don't. I'd say what they remind me of but don't want to hurt feelings and break forum rules. Each on their own I guess.
I'll go a little off-topic and say that I wish we had more realistic wolf fur for our characters. Current one looks rather odd to me. I'm afraid I might unintentionally cut someone someday c:
-
Oh woooow! Thanks for so many comments, I read them all :D Very interesting to know opinions of other people. Seriously, thanks :)
-
Bald characters ey? I personally Are not a big fan of them but I accept them because that's the creators choice. I do have a few Baldies on my charr list but the have fallen inactive.
-
Honestly I had the same first impression with the manes--" why is this animal wearing a wig". But they grew on me *literally* they definitely add some character to the head and a little bit of spunk and WAZAM. However even thought I personally like the manes, I don't really mind if other characters choose not to have them. I think that since the majority of people have mane on their characters the ones without it stand out a little more and are a little mor eye catching and also more realistic.
-
My characters are 50/50 when looking at manes or no manes! It really depends on the kind of character. Sometimes I have more lean characters, which I then give no manes to make them look skinnier I guess? I do this with, for example, siamese cats or any other short furred animals. But when I do long furred cats I prefer to take a mane, sometimes even a full mane for Norwegian forest cats, Maine coons, etc
