Title: Gierra: Land of Free hearts (UPDATED: Accepting help; new demo added)
Post by: Wolfexpert79 on November 24, 2012, 07:24:29 pm
I made a topic about this a few months back (last year....?) but I didn't want to get in trouble for posting on an old topic.

Anyway,I feel a little bit odd advertising my game on the forum of my favorite ORPG (online role-playing game) but I didn't know where else to put this (unity forums won't work..my topics never show up -_-)

On with the actually point of the topic!

A few months back, Gierra was only an idea; but now that I have what I need, production has started.

(don't worry,the cat wasn't meant to look scary :) )

The Plot
The main plot of the game is to design your character and begin on your epic adventure to defeat the darkness and stop it from turning Gierra into a wasteland.

Core Gameplay
The core gameplay is similar to Oregon Trail. In this game you have to hunt, fight, and rest to find your way to the -No spoilers for your LOL- while finding safe places to sleep and avoiding hunters, trap, and predators along the way, or you might just not make it to the end of the game. This game might be best played with headphones because your hearing will be highly important for staying alive because you will need to be alert and hear whatever might be coming your way.

What you can do to help
This game will be 100% free, but like all professional games (although we have no professional equipment other than Unity3D) I need help in order to get this game done because I don't know how to do everything like animating, scripting and artwork, as well as the cutscenes that will play throughout the game.

Big Cat: You know that creepypasta cat you saw up there? yeah, that cat needs a realistic run and walk cycle for the game, because I just can't do it myself (believe me,i've tried.) The cat is does come with a full armature/skeleton (I did that myself and tested it)

Wolf model: the wolf model below needs someone to rig it because it causes blender to lag a LOT for me (although it uses no lag in unity o_0)

Music: Music won't be needed becase all music will be by Kevin Mcleod (incompitech.com) although,if you really want to have your music in this game, feel free to PM me a sample. All the music,as well as the artwork seen in the game, will have  sort of "Japanese fell" to it.

Artwork: Despite me being able to "sort of" draw wolves and other animals. I will need people to create the artwork seen throughout the game. Once again,it will have a "Japanese" feel to it.

GUI: Some UnityGUI is needed to fit in the feel of the game. I don't know any exact links to learn how to make GUI skins for Unity but i'm sure you can find something :)

Models: A wolf/canine model is needed for the game. I have one but it makes blender lag a lot so someone can try uploading one of their models. (The model MUST have and open mouth and can't be really low poly, but it can't be super high poly either (medium poly...?) No animations and armatures are needed but if you want to make it yourself that's fine. A screenshot is needed.

HERE IT IS!...Not the game..a dumb demo xD all you can do in it is walk around the newly made camp. and if your wondering why the main character is a builder man,it's because the actual character isn't done/hasn't been found yet ._.

http://www.mediafire.com/?7vkpf92l8uhnw2j (http://www.mediafire.com/?7vkpf92l8uhnw2j)

The actual game will look NOTHING like this. It will have a better interface and super epicle struffz :P

Well that's about it...I don't know if the mods will lock this so..yeah.

Conceptz :P

So.... Is this a game like FeralHeart or something?
The maps look a heck of a lot like the ones in WolfQuest, but they seem pretty good.
Title: Re: Gierra: Land of Free hearts
Post by: Wolfexpert79 on November 24, 2012, 07:32:48 pm
No the game is one-player, not a multiplayer game like Feral-Heart.

The reason it looks like wolfquest is because wolfquest used the same program to make their games (Unity3D) although they might have used the "pro" version unlike the free version I have, because I don't have 1,000$ xD

Will this game be eventually "playable" for the public.
And if so, when is it going to come out?
Title: Re: Gierra: Land of Free hearts
Post by: Wolfexpert79 on November 24, 2012, 09:23:59 pm
Yeah, it'll be publicly playable, available for download on my website.

It's planned for release around (really) late December, early 2013 (January-March) I wanted it to be released around christmas but looking at the game's progress, that most likely won't happen.

Have you actually MADE a website for it yet?

Yeah, http://gierra.webs.com/ (http://gierra.webs.com/)

It's not done yet though because I need to think of other stuff that will make the website more awesome.

Looks good already.
Will it be one of those games where you have to create an account to download the game or can you just freely download the game without having to do that, like WolfQuest?
Title: Re: Gierra: Land of Free hearts

I'm planning of having it where you can download without an account.

This looks awesome, but I'd like this to be in multi-player. Still looks awesome though.

Well keep this idea, because I like games where you don't have to do that.  ;D

There could be a multi-player option but someone else would have to do the server because I have 0 money

Can't wait for this to be available! It looks like a really cool game. Will it require an internet connection to play or is it a game to download?
Title: Re: Gierra: Land of Free hearts (UPDATED: Accepting help)

It's a game download. My Unity licence doesn't cover games that use the internet.

Hey this looks pretty good so far! You are doing a good job on your own ^^
I wish I could help you out, but my 3D modeling skills arent that great. Im only good for Photoshop, sadly.

Keep on trucking! I'd like to see you finish this, it would be a great accomplishment! :)

Thanks, i'm going to be uploading images of the other maps soon too. The camp (the first image in the topic) got a complete makeover because when I downloaded Unity 4.0 (latest version) the previous map was lost. It looks even better than before though.

I'd appreciate that :), I could PM you the lion model if you wanted to try something with that.

That's probably because I deleted the old one temporaraly so I could upload the (slightly) better one. it'll be fixed in a second

I'm currently trying to download quite a few large programs so perhaps tomorrow xD

I'm not so good at heads and faces when it comes to meshing and animating, i have no problems with body, tails, wings though :)

I currently need someone to make a model for one of the bosses. It's sort of complicated though...it looks like this:
with legs

The one breathing fire would be in the middle with the one with smoke being next to it, and the other heads would be where they appear to be.

Does it need a skeleton/animation?...well...no. I could do that myself since it won't be walking around much (I fail at walk cycles LOL), but I might need a proper UV map for it despite it's simple coloring.

Just a tiny update: I've finished another map but other things are still going rather slowly.

No prob, the main reason I made it was because I can't find any free games like this, so I made my own :)

I can animate, but currently I'm busy animating another game, if it's Blender I can help no problem. ^^ If it's not armatured I can try and add armature and such.

Yeah, i'm using Blender for the models (If that's what you meant) You could try with the armature because I always think my armatures are kind of fail...but I could get away with my own.

^ This is why your Blender is probably lagging. The poly count is stupidly high.

It's over like...100,000 poly. Any game model [or at least a player model] on any system is usually no more than 8000 poly. It'll kill my computer if I were to try and open it. ._.

I currently need someone to make a model for one of the bosses. It's sort of complicated though...it looks like this:

Just a tiny update: I've finished another map but other things are still going rather slowly.

I can do it 8D Though I'll need a more general description on what sort of "legs" you'd want on it, though my general layout with Blender may be a bit confusing to people. xD

The legs would sort of look this, but the toes would be stubbier, not as long:

That komodo dragon is actually the basic body reference for it, but not as baggy (sorry komodos lol!)

Okiedokes.

I sent you a PM with a Join.Me link if you'd like to watch it be made.

Merp. I need to get going so I can't really PM this > > ... < <

Feel free to doodle on the shots if you aren't pleased with anything :'D This was only started and made in about...well... about an hour or so, so it's not exactly up to snuff with what I normally make.

No problem Alex- :3

I'll UV map it once it's all finished and then...IDK...email it to you?

LOL

I know several programs that can help make trees and can make some basic objects for environments if you ever need them.

Making trees is really annoying though, personally, generating program or not. xD

Here's another one. Added a tail and gave the heads teeth.

Err...i'd have to think about that. The idea of birds is a little "iffy" because fighting enemies with a bird might look a little odd. It could be done, yes, but i'd have to find a way to fit them into the game.

Understandable, would flying actually be in the game at all though? I'm trying to work on a wolf model right now, not sure how long it will take though. Again, I'm not so good at modeling the face or ears.

Double post but they're several days apart~

Can someone convert this .max file to something I can open it up with? like a .obj or .blend file. I'd appreciate it since I can't afford 3DS Max and in order to get the trail I have to give more information than needed.

http://www.mediafire.com/?wauypme65khliz5 (http://www.mediafire.com/?wauypme65khliz5)

And just incase you guys want an update i'm working on the fighting system now. The hunting might be difficult though...

You can easily import it into Blender and then save it as a .blend file if it has a .3DS file, but the problem is that when you do it doesn't import animation data, so you'd just get the wolf model and then a bunch of boxes that used to be the model skeleton x_x
Title: Re: Gierra: Land of Free hearts (UPDATED: Accepting help; new demo added)
Post by: Wolfexpert79 on December 15, 2012, 10:00:36 pm
There is a .3DS file but when I import it to blender, there's nothing there (probably a broken file X_X)

PS:How's the boss model going?

Post by: shusuke on December 15, 2012, 10:42:18 pm
:D Totally awesome!

I'm trying to chip down the poly count though as it's sorta high. x_X I'll have a decent texture and rig on it for you by Tuesday. :D

I know that models of all sorts of formats usually work with Unity though. Blend/FBX/Maya files usually work, so if you're wanting to convert to .obj/.blend to have it in Unity only it should work as a .max/3ds.

Otherwise I can try and fix up the bugs for you on the model and then rig that for you, but it'll take me a while because there's a lot of duplicate edges and faces that need to be whittled out of it. x_X
