Praise / To a person I don't know the name of
« on: August 31, 2016, 02:54:54 pm »
Quite a while ago I was sat at Stone Bridge watching the chat go by when someone randomly said to me "Flob," ( that was my name back then) "check out this band called Steam Powered Giraffe." So I did and was immediately captivated. And just under two years later, last Sunday, I saw them play live in my city and absolutely loved it.

I don't even know if this person is still on FH or if they'll read this, but nevertheless...
Thank you very much, person. You've made a small yet awesome impact on my life.

The Roleplay Guide

Child Boards

Groups Roleplay Board - roleplay with your groups here.
Group Advertising Board - find and join a roleplay group, or advertising your group.

Tips for Finding Roleplays

Here are some useful tips for finding the types of roleplays you want instead of manually scrolling through the entire board.

- Use the forum search bar to find the specific type of roleplay you're after. E.g. wolf rp, lion pride, realistic.

Or
- Click of the search tab underneath your avatar to do a more advanced search.
- Type the sort of roleplay you want in the box.
- Change 'Match all words' to 'Match any words'
- Next to where it says 'Search order', use the drop-down menu to select 'Most recent topics first' to ensure you don't get old threads showing up.
- Underneath it will say 'Choose board to search in, or search all'. Uncheck the box where it says 'Check all'.
- A list of all the boards on the forum will appear. Then check the boxes of the boards you want to search. For roleplays, you'll want to search 'Group Advertising board' or 'Group roleplay board'.

About activity and such

Try not to join too many roleplays at once. Joining too many can make it hard to be active enough for all of them. 1 or 2 is usually enough.
Also, if we believe you are spamming up the Roleplay sections by constantly creating new RP's we will lock them and have you choose one or two to keep open and get rid of the rest.

Roleplay Vocabulary

A list of roleplay terms and what they mean - useful for here and in-game.

IC - in character (you are speaking and behaving as your character)
OOC - out of character (you are speaking and behaving as yourself, not your character)
BIC - back in character (going from out of character to in character)
Godmodding - where your character has 'godlike' powers
Powerplaying - similar to Godmodding, e.g. *dodges their attack, bites their neck and kills them instantly* (You are advised not to do this.)
Mary Sue - also seen in the fanfiction community, refers to a character that could be described as flawless with no imperfections or undesirable characteristics.
Mapped - takes place inside a custom map.
Sited - the group has their own website/forum
Literate - use of correct spelling and grammar
"Illiterate" - the group uses basic literacy skills, not very picky about RP style
Semi-literate - somewhere between literate and "illiterate", some mistakes in spelling and grammar are forgiven.
Realistic - appearance and behaviour mirrors that of the real world species.
Semi-realistic - some unnatural markings/colours and behaviours for the species are accepted

Happy roleplaying!

Discussion Board / Pies
« on: July 28, 2016, 06:59:04 pm »
Mmm pies. Pies are great. I'd give the person who invented pies a hug for their genius; they're a versatile food that you can have for dinner or dessert, with various fillings or types of pastry.
But which pies are a favourite among ferals? Savoury pies with meat and vegetables and gravy? Sweet pies filled with fruit? Or no pies at all, because for some odd reason you don't like pies. (no offense).

Other Mods/Creations / Flo's Improved Sound Effects
« on: July 20, 2016, 03:00:01 pm »
Hello, fluffs. As you may have guessed, I have recorded some sounds to replace some of the existing ones in the game which aim to be a bit more realistic and less obtrusive. I had always found the original running and walking sounds to be a bit...loud and heavy-footed.
This includes a new running and walking sound, and two different water wade sounds. The video below shows a preview of these sounds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8D2euxDzPsY
Animations featured in the video were made by Unnuuk.

Downloads

Running
Walking
Water wade 1
Water wade 2

How to Install

1) After downloading, find the location it was saved it. This is usually your computer's Downloads folder.
2) Copy and paste the file/s into FeralHeart > media > sounds and overwrite the original sound files.
3) If you're installing the Water wade sound effects, rename them to remove the numbers from the end of the file name.
4) Restart FeralHeart and the sounds should be working ingame.

Make sure you have backups of the original game sounds if you decide you don't want these anymore!

Game Suggestions & Ideas / The Cold North
« on: July 15, 2016, 01:39:39 pm »
So. New update, new maps and revamped maps. It's lovely, I'm still enjoying them very much. However, with the removal of good ol' South Pole it feels like something is missing...

A cold breeze, crispy snow under your paws and tingly snowflakes landing on the tip of your nose. FeralHeart is now very green and lush, which is great, don't get me wrong, but I feel Feral Lands could use a little Northern chill.

Therefore, I propose a chilly, snowy, wintery map. Perhaps something like a high mountain range or a frosty tundra with low lying shrubs, rocky outcrops, snow drifts and the occasional snow shower.

Forum Suggestions & Ideas / Manual 1.15

So erm...seen as we've had a lovely new update with all the trimmings (except the gravy, you don't want to get it wet), what about a kind young soul or two to give that old outdated manual a good revamp?

Forum Discussion / Reminiscing

Been doing a lot of that recently. And I bet you lot have too, give recent events and such.

In light of a new FH era, I've revisited a lot of old memories of my early days here. This evening I've been looking back through all my old forum posts and giggled at some of the randomness and the noobish help threads I made. Here's one I made in a discussion thread back in 2012, bright green text and all. I had a different name back then and I think my fursona character was still in the early stages of evolution.
Hmm...I'd say the most random thing I've done was this: I was alone in an area of Fluorite and I was bored so to remedy that, I decided to put my character on crouch, pulled troll face, F3ed about a bit and clicked on a spot the other side of the map and watched my char crawl all the way their whilst pulling the weird face. It took around 20 minutes. By the end of that time I was bored again XD
How things have changed....

Care to share any of your old forum antics?

Praise / So you've finally done it
« on: June 11, 2016, 02:35:22 pm »
It certainly has been a long time coming, the update/patch. And, hell, does all the hard work that's gone into it show. Everyone who contributed to the project, you've all done an outstanding job, truly. It's a welcome, fresh view of FeralHeart, and though I know many of us will miss the old days hanging at Stone Bridge and the frustrating job of getting to the top of Ascension Island... But as with many things, change happens, and as FeralHeart evolves, so must we. I and so many others look forward to all the new and exciting adventures that you've given us the opportunity to have.
I'm proud to have made a contribution, even though it was only a little one, to this project.

Here's my fluffy girl enjoying an evening at Kiwimbi Beach.

Thanks again, you lovely hard working people.
