Title: A Xubuntu User's Guide to FeralHeart!
Post by: Morqque on May 09, 2019, 08:04:53 pm

Are you an Xubuntu user? Maybe even an Ubuntu user? No matter your preference there is an easy way
to install FeralHeart onto your system without using the bloated PlayOnLinux. Shall we get started?

PART ONE: THE GAME

Step 1 - Install Wine

- Open up your terminal and write the following command
                    sudo apt-get install wine64
- Accept anything that it asks and it should be installed or
enter your password

Step 2 - Download the game

- Go onto the downloads page and click "setup". The game will start downloading.
Once downloading. It will appear as an .exe setup file in your downloads.

Step 3 - Install it

- Open up your terminal once again and type "wine"
- Now drag the .exe into the terminal and it will show the location next to "wine"
- Click enter
- The FH install wizard will pop up. Begin installation as normal.

Step 4 - Play the game

- Congratulations. You now how FeralHeart installed on your system. There should be a desktop
icon ready for you to click and play. If not, travel into your "Home" folder and navigate to ".wine"
in there you will fine a C drive folder and that is where you will find the files for FeralHeart including
the application itself.
-Some errors/lag may occur but can be easily fixed within the game
(ie- disabling water reflection and distance)

PART TWO: MODIFICATIONS

So you want to install fancy markings and textures, eh? It's super simple. No WinRar trials required.

Step 1 - Downloading your mod of choice
   - Download your mod, texture, etc and watch it appear as a .zip file in your Downloads folder.
   - In this example we are downloading a eye texture pack. Inside of it, there is a "Eyes Folder"

Step 2 - Open the .zip by double clicking it

Step 3 - On a separate window navigate to the location of your FeralHeart folder
       - Navigate to the Masks folder

Step 4 - Dragging and Dropping, replace all
      - Highlight all of the files in the "Eyes" folder and copy and then paste them into the
Masks folder of FeralHeart.

Step 5 - Congratulations!
     - Just like in Windows, you have properly installed new textures to FeralHeart!

Did I miss a step? Did it not work for you? Please comment below, or PM me, and I will be happy
to assist, or make changes to my tutorial. I'm only human!

Make sure you switch the rendering subsystem to OpenGL. It makes a pretty big different in performance for me.

This is a pretty solid guide if you want to avoid the commandline. :P
Otherwise, if I install into wine's C:/, I just start the game by
Code: [Select]
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files\ \(x86\)/FeralHeart ; wine FeralHeart.exeand yeah, opengl is the better option usually, since wine has to translate all direct3d graphic calls into opengl on the fly (and it is quite performance intensive). It is less bad with the gallium9 driver in wine-staging though.

I kept it short and sweet for members who may be otherwise new to the OS or want to have a simplified way of installing, hehe. Thanks for the information.
Also, this works with 1.17~
