(You see it next to buddies)

I got questions for this, and I hope they are simple to discuss;

What does spiders mean on this forum?
Here's what I'm certain about:
They're not:
- People from your blocked users list (I haven't blocked anyone on this forum)
- Guests

*making a "Hmmm..." face*

What do you guys think they are? Why are they called spiders? Eek! o_o

... Just curious.

In short, they are bots [Google, Google (AdSense), Baidu].

That's nice... how did I not see this.... But still, why are they called spiders for that? *hmmm*
Also thanks for the clarification<3

The 'spiders' are web crawling bots that 'crawl' through (or browse) the web, usually for the purpose of indexing.

If you look at the language used, you'll often see the terms 'world wide web' and 'crawler bot'. That usually conjures up the image of 'spider' in a person's mind, as they tend to crawl on webs.

Web crawlers also visit many sites at the same time, so if you think about it, their 'legs' are positioned over many strands of the 'web', like a spider, so to speak.

basically what lucius said

it's just a goofy way to explain bots perusing your everything and internally cataloging stuff.

If you're curious as to where these "spiders" belong to, they're displayed at the end of the "Users active in the past 30 minutes" list. So, in your example case, that'd be 13 from Baidu, 6 from Google and another 5 from Google's AdSense.

That is all I to say about them, really. They're just there, but they don't really impact the site much.
