Title: Wolf preset template?
Post by: Prideland on March 02, 2013, 07:26:43 pm
Hey, I was planning to  make a simple first preset, and i want it to be a wolf one, but with the colour-me-in ones and that there are just feline ones, and i know they are both different so if i design my preset on that, it would not turn out for a canine, anyone know a guide/template for a wolf head template/wolf body template etc?

(I hope that turns out right)

I know they look the same but it turns out fine for a canine, I use the same UV maps for mine and they end up just as good as a feline. Both models use the same templates :) Just make sure you use the one called chead_UV and it should work alright.

Check your Reference folder located in your my_presets folder and you should see it. It looks the same as the feline head one you've posted an image of ;)

Hurm, i put the chead one in, but it seemed to be more out of place...

I always find it easier to draw on a new layer. That way if I make a mistake then I can erase it without erasing the actual template :)

EDIT: Yes it's a little out of place which can be a little confusing. I often use the furshades as a guide sometimes since I can't remember where the mouth actually is ^^

You can find out how to do that here: http://www.feral-heart.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=2&jfile=index.php&topic=31787.0 (http://www.feral-heart.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=2&jfile=index.php&topic=31787.0)

Alright, i'll try that ^^ Thank you

Though, i still dont know where to put things for a wolf, like the mouth and that D=

It's the same as the feline image. The mouth is the big oval thing on the left side of the template, if that's what you mean. Or do you mean where to save it?

I mean on the right side of the image, the actual head, like, if i were to do markings near the mouth, what line should i put it near?

Use the fur shade method I mentioned about. You can use that to see where the mouth actually is on the template so it will be easier to decide where to place the markings.

Okay wow that helped so much ^^
I have just /one/ more question (sorry im ish new ;w;)

What line do i stop at with the preset? the blue or red line? Since the fur texture stops around the blue line?

You should colour in the whole thing, where you've circled is the chin so you should colour that part in. If you leave some parts blank then those parts will end up white when you test it in Preset Maker ;)

Get rid of the transparent parts perhaps. On the last layer just use one colour to fill the whole thing so those grey squares in the background disappear. Also make sure you're exporting your preset as preset_8head.jpg and hopefully it should work.

Make sure you named it and added the .jpg at the end like I mentioned. If you already have though then maybe you're using the wrong code. Go to your my_presets folder>> Preset_8 and replace the .material file with this: http://www55.zippyshare.com/v/61515144/file.html (http://www55.zippyshare.com/v/61515144/file.html)

Delete the image you exported and export preset_8head.jpg again and click Load Defaults if you see this box:

Make sure you named it preset_8head.jpg and not preset8_head.jpg I once did that and didn't notice xD

Oh lol xD Don't worry, it's a common mistake. I'm really glad it worked though, that preset actually looks pretty good :)

Here are the names for the other parts:

- preset_8body.jpg
- preset_8eye.jpg
- preset_8tail.jpg
- preset_8mane.png

I wish you luck on your presets! :) Be sure to ask me if you're having trouble ;)

I love drawing the eyes, it's probably my favourite part of preset making! :D From the colours you've used I think a nice lime green would go nicely as the eye colour, whatever floats your boat ^^ Please post a screenie of your preset when you've finished, I would love to see it :)

Truly, there was no need to bump this thread just for the fact that there was no reply.
