Title: Map Height
Post by: Leneka on June 09, 2011, 06:30:10 am
So Im giving my first shot at making an actual map with height differences. Ive been watching videos on youtube to show me how to do it and I think Ive got a pretty good map for a first try. Ive already got the mask down but, Now Im trying to upload my Terrain into map maker and its saying the file cant be found. So I went back to the videos and followed the saving process step by step, and still no luck.

So then I take a closer look at the videos. These videos were made by people before the new version of Feral Heart 1.06. Its obvious because theres no exports folder, so my guess has to be that theyre not saved the same way. Could anyone maybe explain to me how to save my terrain file properly or even better, give me a link to a video? I would really like to start creating maps and let my mind go wild. Thank you!!!

You saving your terrain and mask files in the folder with same name as the map. Lol, hopes you understand, if not, then I can send screenshots ^^

No, I don't think that's it Rimfrost.

You just need to put your heightmap into the 'terrains' folder for the game to find it.

Sounds like a spelling error. Locate the file itself and double-check the name. FeralHeart is also case sensitive. So even if all the letters are placed correctly, a lower case where there should be an uppercase would still say it can't find the file.

:D well I think it was something along those lines because I renamed it and now it keeps crashing everytime I try to pull it up. I guess thats an improvment?

Have you tried opening the terrain in the program you used to make it then copy/paste it to a new canvas, and re-saving it over your old file?

That's what has always fixed the crashing for me.

You might be able to get it to work by adding it manually... This has worked for me once when maps crashed for me.

Ok I'll try to explain it clear as possible...

Ok first- Go into mapmaker and on the first tab, the map tab, type in the map name you want under 'Map Name' and 'Map Display Name'; then click save.

Now close FH.

Next- Go to your FH terrains folder, /C->Feral Heart->Media->Terrains, and look for a folder with your map's name. Put your heightmap picture into this folder.

Then inside the folder look for a file 'mapname.CFG'. Open this file in Notepad.

Once you have it open, look at the 2nd line of text it should say 'Heightmap.image=defaultTerrain.png'. You want change that to 'Heightmap.image=YourmapnameTerrain.png'. Save the file and close.

Go into mapmaker again, find? your map in the list at the bottom the Map tab, and click load. It should load with your heightmap, if done correctly.

Hope this works for you! :3

If not, I am unfortunately out of ideas x3.
