Title: Personal notes.
Post by: Ramine on January 15, 2012, 02:31:30 pm
Hurro, I have recently felt the need to write down notes for myself. In case I found a thread, that I think is useful.
Because  I personaly can't always find them again, I suggest that we add an option that members can leave notes to themselves, like diaries. It would be great if I could write the link down, correct?
No one else can see them. I'm not sure if anyone else is feeling this way.
Though, I do hope you agree. c:

I agree, it would be nice if we could write our own little diary/notes. :3

Some forum sites like jcink (I think that's the name of the host) do have this in their layout. From previous experience, I can definitely say it is worth looking into, and implementing if possible. I used it as a quick reference to certain sites that were useful, and for special emotes, etc.

I don't want to sound sly or anything but..

Wordpad anyone?

(rightclick on desktop, new txt, starting writing, save)
I'm just having troubles understanding how much useful it would be to have it on the site, and if it would be worth going through the setup of having them when it's so easy to write notes on the computer. It could always be looked into though of course.

LOL! :P Oh U

It's kind of hard to explain if you've never been on a forum that has one. It's not necessarily needed, but is very handy. I guess it is like notepad, but more organized? It's more of a permanent note than something that can get lost on a desktop, I dunno. I remember saving various notes about emotes, threads, etc on it, and even keeping track of a few of my threads by saving specific links. And bam, it was account bound so no matter what, you can't lose it, and no one else can see it.

Well, you could always write in notepad, but I do think that if this would be added here on the forum. People would  use it.
Definitely some are against it, but wouldn't it be easier if you could leave a note to yourself here on the forum. Where you can find it in a matter of seconds,
than go through folders on your computer?

What a great idea. c: An option like this would come in handy, especially since the forum has been getting busier and busier lately, it gets difficult to keep up with all the new threads. Plus you could never lose your notes if something happened to your computer (-coughcoughyoursisterspillingvitaminwateronitcough-) because they'd always be safe here on the site. If there's a way to implement that option somehow, I'm all for it.
And if there is, maybe an official poll would be in order?

lol, are you stalking me? Nah jk. <3

I never really thought of that. Yes, it would keep the notes 'safe'.

I still don't see how you'd loose a txt file on your desktop though ramine, nor how it would be organized than you actually make this not yourself. If you want tidy, eet be tidy. If you dun, it will not be. lul.

All I'm saying that unless there's an easy way to set this one up, it doesn't feel like something that's worth detours at this moment. I've seen various note functions before, but honestly, nothing beats a note that you can access directly from the desktop, also, unless you have a big screen covered with only shortcuts and icons, or don't remember anything at all where you place important things you want to keep, I'd find it very funny that you loose a file that you know you'd want to keep.

I get the idea, but this wouldn't exactly make notes easier that much xD

I'm sure that it could get looked into, and if this  forum get updated in the future we might be able to get one of these notes/reminder functions, since if it would exist, users would with no doubt use it. Not being able to find a file is not much of an excuse though as in why we should haff.

Durr, you've got a point there, Reddie.
Oh well, it was worth a shot. xD

We can still look up if there's any nice and easy way this can be set up though, I think many users would not mind being able to write notes to themselves on this very site.

Just that if it's too much complications to get it, I'm not sure I'd see it as a bright idea to waste the energy since it's so easy to write yourself notes on the computer as it is  : o

True, true, even if the staff looks into this. There is still much research to be done, to find a suitable program, etc.

Eh, I've seen quite a few other forums with a place to put your notes, but to be honest, I don't really see the point of them. We have readily-installed programmes such as "Notepad" and whatever else on other computers.
