Praise / Re: Congratulations Spicy!!
« on: June 14, 2020, 10:04:53 pm »
A big warm welcome to the staff team, Spicy!

You're about to add some spice to the staff team I can feel it. I look forward to working with you!

If this is a “Raz” problem, I truly don’t understand why you stay. I know you stay out of care, but it’s not really about care anymore if you can’t actually do anything for the community.
I'll speak on my reasons for this!
It's frustrating having to sit back and watch things happen that you know could have been prevented with more communication or could be better with simple fixes to the game. (Example: the "forbidden" chat that would solve the problem of the map chats seeming quiet and help alleviate the other maps feeling dead. It's a SIMPLE FIX to a huge problem.)

For me, it's holding out the hope that things eventually will change even if it seems bleak and hopeless at times. And it is about care for me because in the meantime, even though there are major problems with the current game, there is still a userbase that plays the current game and needs help. A lot of people turn to the staff to answer questions and provide guidance. I'm constantly getting inbox messages, not just reports but new players needing help installing the game or fixing a crash/bug. That's where I feel the benefit of being on the staff team is even though I don't agree with the way the game is being run.

It's a dilemma. The server is still up, so there still needs to be that staff to help the playerbase when they ask for help. But deeply-rooted issues are not getting solved.

I've debated leaving several times because i'm frustrated and tired but I still have a drive to see things change. I'm not saying you don't because I know you do too! Which was a reason that you stated on why you've still been posting on the forums.

The last time someone critiqued the staff while they were on MOTS, if I recall correctly, some of you called that person 'disgusting'. And yes, it was an actual critique. So take that as you may.

Sura just clarified this but I thought I'd post my own experience on this statement since I was the staff that said I felt "disgusted".

I never called the MOTS in question "disgusting".

What actually happened was the thread with criticism was linked in the staff Discord server asking how everyone felt about the thread and I replied with "disgusted". At the time, I will completely own that I was upset at the way the thread was presented but in no way did I feel like I should completely disregard the criticism. And I certainly didn't throw insults around because of the way I felt.

I have the screenshot of this incident happening and if you would like to see it, I will private message you it since it was a private staff conversation you were a part of.

Since that incident, my point still stands about the thread but I have reflected on how I responded and I wish I would have approached it and the thread as a whole in a different way. I wished I would have approached the MOTS in private messages and explained my reasoning better. But that's part of being human, right? Accepting you could have done differently and changing your perspectives and actions based upon that reflection and hindsight. Which is also why I did improve after the criticism was presented.

Accepting criticism is something that I am always trying to improve upon.

One of my favorite YouTubers always said "Seek to understand before being understood" and that has resonated with me ever since I first heard it.

I am doing my best to try to listen to what you all have to say. I know we are all hurting because of the state of this game.

I appreciate the rest of what you had to say in this most recent post, Cal. Even though we have had our differences in the past.

I bought Minecraft for this (that and what in the world was I doing without it in the first place). Hopefully some of you can teach me the ways cause I'm completely new. Looking forward to seeing you guys around!

Thank you so much Spicy! As Ame said, this is something that I needed to hear. Oftentimes when I feel down and feel like leaving the staff team as a result of that, it's posts and comments like these that make me value the community that I am a part of and make me want to stay and fight for it even more.

You took a lot of time to put this together for us and it means a lot.

There is one basic task when you’re in the game as a moderator: keep your eyes on the chat. (And just so you know when it comes to us mods ;) )

So, I thought I’d share a little trick to how I watch the chat when I have other things to do at my PC or want to watch some Netflix or YouTube while monitoring the chat! Normally I have two monitors and just leave the FH window open on my secondary monitor but I currently do not have that luxury. And this method will help for those of you that only have one monitor, or do have more than one but don’t want FH to take up a lot of space on your screen when you are multitasking.  Alt + TAB is simple enough but with this method you won’t even have to bother.

NOTE: You must be able to use the OpenGL rendering system. This will not work with Direct3D9. When Direct3D9 is not the active window it pauses what is on screen so you won’t get a feed of the chat.

What you will need:
OBS: https://obsproject.com/download
DeskPins: https://efotinis.neocities.org/deskpins/

Step 1 - Install OBS and DeskPins
If you have any problems with this, let me know down in the replies.
DeskPins is used to keep the chat window on top of the other windows.

Step 2 - Set up OBS
1. Open up OBS

2. In the Sources pane, click the + icon and add a Window Capture

3. Once the Properties window opens, find your FeralHeart window and then click OK. You should now see FeralHeart open in OBS

Step 3 - Crop OBS to your chat box
1. Right click the Window Capture button in the Sources pane and select Filters

2. Once the Filters window opens, click on the + in the bottom left and select Crop/Pad

3. Type in the number of pixels you would like to crop from each side. This depends on your monitor resolution and size of your FeralHeart window but don’t think too much about it. Just type in random numbers and you will see for yourself and be able to fine tune it to your liking.
I cropped 15 pixels from the left, 400 off the top (left a little bit of room to expand chat window in FeralHeart), 1185 from the right and 290 from the bottom.
Once you are done cropping, you can go ahead and close the window.

This is important: Now to resize your preview window so that way all you see is what you just cropped.
4.  Right click anywhere on the preview area in OBS and Select “Resize output (source size)”

5. Once it asks if you want to continue, click Yes

Step 4 - Pop out OBS preview window and pin it on top of other windows
1. Right click OBS’s preview window area again and select “Windowed Projector (Preview)”

It should end up looking like this.
NOTE: Leave the other, main OBS window open otherwise it will close out of your preview window too.

2. Make sure DeskPins is launched. You should see it down on your taskbar.

3. Left click the icon on your taskbar and your cursor should turn into a little pin
(Alternatively you can right click the DeskPins icon and select “Enter Pin Mode”)

4. Find your preview window and click the top of the window that shows the title.
Your window is now pinned and will sit on top of all other windows! Resize the preview window as you please.
If you want to get rid of the pin, you can hover over it until a little X appears or just close the window entirely.
NOTE: You can leave FeralHeart running in the background but do NOT hit the minimize button or OBS won’t see the window anymore.

Once you close out of OBS or FeralHeart, it should still save these settings for the next time. The only thing you will have to do again is "Resize output (source size)"

I hope this is useful to the few of you who want to watch what's going on without tabbing in and out. Let me know if you have any questions in the replies!
