Title: Browsing the forum while mobile.

Recently on my new phone I discovered the joys of browsing the forum while mobile. I was kind of curious if other people browse the forums from their phones so I figured I'd make a thread about it. I like having the forums in my pocket wherever I go, however the forum skin eats up my data quite quickly. Still, it is very convenient. Also makes it so easy to spend a lot of time here, lol.

Even if you can't browse from your phone, how do you feel about having the forum in the palm of your hand?

When we use the computer, we take it for granted. Brosing differently really makes me think about how wonderful that its possible that we actually have the machines in the first place.

Its difficult using the phone to browse, since this forum is rather wide, it takes ages for me to scan across. x3

It would be easier with a mobile setting, so that one can see the whole page without having to scroll, I agree...

I've browsed now and then via my phone. I don't log in or post, just check up on things.

It really depends on your phone, I think, to run the forum well.

Freebie pre-template forums are very convoluted in their coding, so they do not run efficiently on most mobile phones. While it is nice to have them, I always just use my laptop to access forums on the go.

I always take FH Forums on the go with me. I like the way my phone shows the site. It is missing a peice or two, but I can see the words just fine. :)

I've found it useful as a mod for just looking at new threads. If I see a title that interests me I can always get my butt out of my comfortably bedroom sofa and reply on my computer. It's just nice to not have to constantly be on my computer.

I use my wi-fi at home and work, which costs me nothing, and on the go I have a data plan of up to 2G, which I have yet to get anywhere near.

Ahaha. I check FH at work, where there is no computer. I usually don't reply much, but it is nice to see everything that is going on. Kind of my "fix" for not being on my computer.

I go to the forum on my phone all the time, mainly cuz I'm addicted to checking messages, even when I know there are no new messages. xD

I'm browsing via my phone right now c: It really helps when I can't access a computer, like when my sisters spill vitamin water on my laptop and make it go boom. :l It does eat up a lot of data, but since I've got unlimited I really don't have to worry about it. xD It would be nice to have a mobile version of the site though, because my phone tends to slow down a whole lot when browsing.

Thanks Raz! Playing with it now... This will be really useful for checking up on things quickly while I am hiding my phone under my till at work and don't want people to see but I am just dying to know the outcome of a situation!....wait does that make me irresponsible? Anyways, I've been wishing for one of these for a little while, thanks!

When I'm not on the forums on the computer, I'm on the forums with my phone. Your right it does make it easy to be on here alot, and I enjoy it X3

I browse mobile quite a lot because I can't get on the computer I have 4G so it makes browsing more easier and faster all though I have an iPhone in order to see all the text I have to zoom and scroll down the long page which doesn't save me time. Other than that I have no real problem browsing mobile but others do sometimes with having to pay for Internet or other reasons.

Like has already been stated, on the second page of this thread, Raz posted a mobile-friendly link for the forums, so really you wouldn't have to drag and scroll as much.

For anyone else browsing mobile-- do you get that one annoying ad that pops up on many of the pages, "mobilewinners" or something? Quite annoying because I have to go back to the previous page and reload the new one. And it only started happening recently, maybe a new ad in the rotation or something similar. Jus' wondering if anyone else is getting it tew.

And of course that's not on the mobile link that Raz posted-- only on the normal one when I'm trying to actually post instead of read. xD

^ Posted that a long time ago and I have to admit, it got a lot easier with a little practice.
Much more comfortable with it now. Although I never post anything while mobile. xD

It would actually be nice to have an 'App' for the forums, not for the game but the forums. Saving data and such, maybe even less pictures to download. That way I can just click on the app, load it and it'll be up and ready to go!

Now that's a good idea. xD I'm fine with using my phone's browser to check the forum and such. I'm on it all the time. But an app would be amazing.

I have a 4G plan shared with my father and he uses no data so I have all of it. So for me I just got my awesome Droid 4 and I love being able to post on these forums when ever I want from my phone, and another up side I have 4G lite data speed so it doesn't take long for me to get the forums on my phone. The scrolling drives me insane though. But we take our computers and laptops for granted, and phones especially.

An App would be cool, although I don't know about anyone else, but I often use my IPod to search the forums (Hence the fact that my phone is broken xD.) And I just create homescreen shortcuts for all my favorite websites. So I have a FH shortcut, as if it was an app, but all it does when I click is load up the web browser, sending me directly to the FH site. Helpfull, eh? xD

I come on the forums on my phone sometimes, but only when I can't access a computer. It tends to be a bit slow and sometimes closes the browser because "The page is too big to load" -_- bloody thing...
For me, nothing beats my trusty laptop.  :) Even if I did spill hot chocolate on it once...*cough*

I actually don't think that a specific app is necessary for browsing these forums. My fear is that with the procession of an app, advertisements would riddle and pop up incessantly. Besides, I find the navigation is just slightly less superior than a laptop (as to be expected). The only hindrance/ downfall to mobile browsing I think is that the typing is very slow-going and tedious. Difficult stuff for long posts like roleplays and such. Also, previewing certain coding is impossible. Minor stuff.

Overall, I'm very happy with browsing the site on mobile. I think it's as good as possible

It's very well fitted for a mobile phone or other devices, actually. It's simple to use and sturf, if you know what I mean. ;3;
It won't let me browse with my Samsung mobile, but it's perfect on my Nintendo DSi.

I got a smart phone just recently, so I too have discovered the magic of mobile browsing. This site is great for phones, the only downside is that if I find a cool new map or an interesting modification, I have to wait to get home to my computer to download it.

I use my mobile ALL the time to check this. Maybe if we made it so pictures were miniature boxes that get large when you hover them? Plus make it so right off the bat the words are large and readable and fit the screen, and the reply box would be as big as the screen? I'll get back in the closet now. ;w; -Rolls away-

Aye but that would require Raz to actually code a mobile layout for the site itself so as not to mess up the normal desktop layout. Something like that would take a lot of work, I think xD But it's possible. Maybe we'll look into it someday.

I'm always on my iPod touch while browsing the forums. It's just come quite the addiction too, i have to admit xD. However, it gets frustrating when I'm trying to post a quote; the button quotes it 3 times so I have to deleted the same sentences twice to get it back to one quote-paragraph. And then when I'm trying to colour (etc) some words/senrances it's very hard to do so because I try to scroll up but I have to scroll to the side to do that first because it just makes me rage.

In other words: there is floors to typing on my iPod - mobile device, but it's all worth it in the end.

Ohyes. xD I'm on my Kindle all of the time. Almost every time I pick it up, I'll usually check the forum. As Ace said, it is kind of addicting. ^^"

But, the one thing I don't like is that it can be difficult to post at times, since touchscreens have always been quirky with me. o: That's why I save my larger posts and new threads for my computer.
It's still fun, either way~
