Title: Male vs. Female Characters
Post by: HowlStar on December 03, 2011, 06:11:17 pm
Has anyone else noticed that there is a lack of male chars on FeralHeart? xD almost everyone I meet is female. I've even been in a pack made up of just females. I only have two male chars myself (lol) but it seems like no one has male chars!

I also have only two or three friends that are guys xD Its a little...strange

Dunno, I only ever play male chars. But then, I also tend to play lions, so maybe the wolf scene is different.

Yeah.. Same here, I tend to spot many male feline characters around.

Male felines seem to be more common. But us wolves are all girls xD

Sort of ironic when you think about it, seeing as how dogs have always been portrayed as more masculine and cats feminine.

I'm telling you lots.. It's all down to the floof... Oh yes.

I do think I spot quite a few male canines around, but I must say I do not spend much time in general when it comes to bigger groups of wolfehs so I'm probably not seeing it through.

Sure the gender doesn't really restrict anyone from roleplaying as a males or females but one thing might be the cause of this in "some" ways.

Quote
Male to Female Ratio:    1:4.8

Close to 1 registered male after 5 registered females on this site.

Lions = more males.

Wolves = more females.

Also depends on what time you're on and who's around. I've noticed on Bonfire that if there's a lot of male lions then some people will get on their female lion chars to accompany the males. It's amusing because the ratio of male to female wolves in-game is more realistic for lions and the male to female ratio for lions is more realistic for wolves.

That's probably why most mate-beggers are female wolves xD

"NEVER AGAIN."

Despite having more respect for male characters, I can hardly bring myself to be one. Odd, eh?

Bahaha, I played a male wolf once.
Worst experience ever.
I was stalked by like...four females.
:/

When you're a female wolf though, everyone avoids you.
xD
Except the pups, they always cling to you.
 I always have pups following me;
'Wanna play, wanna be my mommy?'
And then I freak out and go;
'GET OFF OF ME PUPPY. I dun love you.'
D:<

Both genders have pros and cons is what I'm trying to say.

I have a male wolf named Taiga but when I play as him I don't have those problems...poor Taiga (forever alone face)

Don't feel bad, Taiga, it's a blessing in disguise. XD

Worst thing was it was a while ago, when I'd just started playing and didn't know a mate-begging sparkledog when I saw one... I was scarred.

Yea i've noticed this. And ive come up with an equation to describe it

female/male ratio: 100000:500

female/male ratio+mate beggars= males in high demand

males in high demand+mate beggars+females= females gunna chase down the first available male they find

hope that makes some sense. and no offense to anybody

lol XD I'm female but I enjoy being my male characters o.o
I have mostly male canines though, even though I'm more of a cat person....oh, and I have a male dragon and a chimera (dog with snake tail) c:

but when I play as a guy character, random girl characters either ask me to be their mate, or they just right out rape my character x_x' there was actually one person who raped one of my characters, apologized for it, then tells me they've been following me for a while! O_e I was pretty creeped out...I wasn't aware at all that I was being followed...then they asked to be my character's mate, and after I said "sorry, he doesn't instant-mate and is waiting for his girl to come back someday o-o" they ran around the map complaining/crying about my character declining the mate offer....literally announcing my character's name and everything, that "he doesn't love me back but I'll still forever love him!"
yeeaaahhh....even after all that, I still love being my male characters....there's no stopping me! >:U

Lawl, I tend to go on my human female OC.

But when I do go on male chars, It's usually dragons or other critters.
And when, (If ever) I'm asked for a mate. Or approached by a female. I whip out a literate post, It makes them walk right off. It's rather funny if you ask me, da?

There was this one time, though. No matter how many times I posted in front of this person. They literally kept on asking; "b mat?"

It annoyed the living merde from me.. >C

I actually have a few male characters of my own. But like you all have said, when ever you bring a male wolf out or into an rp, total chaos LOL. I brought a wolf named Cethin to a small little rp, and almost every female was asking to be his mate. Eh -shudder- XD

'Tis true. There are more female than male characters around on FeralHeart, but there are more male than female felines, and more female than male canines, but there are more canids than felids in general, so I believe. This is probably because male felines (particularly lions) are more attractive and impressive, and with canines, well, I think people just want to be the one to have pups when they find a mate, which I find rather disturbing.

Currently, I have two female canids, and three male canids (yes, one is a draco), and the male is my main character, because I tend to prefer male animals, even though I'm female (possibly because I'm a bird person, and the male birds are usually more attractive than the females).

The majority of my characters are male. Like Zarago said above, the male characters are less in numbers. I often play males to even it out.

Title: Re: Male vs. Female Characters
Post by: Lady Massacre on December 31, 2011, 12:28:08 am
I think the reason for more male lions then male wolves is the fact that if you have a male character as a feline (example: lion) you can tell that you are a male because of the mane. Male wolves however, look just like the females. Being a male on a feline character eliminates such confusion over gender.
Title: Re: Male vs. Female Characters

it's because  tere's pretty much barley any other hyenas around.. and  I don't have to worry about the  mate beggers chasing me since they're usually looking for other wolves :D

I actually tend to see way more canines than felines, and with that, way, way, WAY more female canines. As for me myself, I, like a couple of others who have commented on this topic, have more males than females even though I am a girl. This is because I try to help balance the ratio and have gradually become used to role playing them.

My male to female ratio = about 1 female for every 4 males

Funny, because I've always seen the opposite. XD The female lions do most of the work, or at least are the ones that spend the most energy on a daily basis, where the male wolves seem to have a fair-fairish amount of work shared between them and the females.

There are way more female wolves than you would think, actually. With felines, the numbers are a little even.

I don't have many males because I don't like having a bunch of females stalking me, and that would also be a little weird because I'm a girl IRL. So yeah. I guess it depends on the person.

I don't know about characters, seems pretty equal, but in terms of real life gender looks like most people are actually females, and that goes for this whole 'culture', for a lack of better word, I mean like us, animal-liking group that likes to draw wolves and big cats and like Lion King and play games like these and RP animals, are into 'scene-wolves' etc. are more female than male, this is coming from a male btw. A lot of times I couldn't even find any real males at all in WQ and IT, all the males were actually female.

Does that mean there is a higher percentage of females interested in the game or is a female character more connectable to Role Play audiences???
Title: Re: Male vs. Female Characters
Post by: evelynn on January 16, 2012, 09:43:07 pm
I'm a girl and half of my characters are male...Personally I tend to lean toward the male plight in an RP.
1. Guys fighting is more respected among Role Players because they expect a male to be a tougher opponent.
2. Males tend to have have less romantic interest built into plot lines- Yuck! Creepy!!!!!
3. Female characters are more acclimated to chatty or supporting roles in an RP.
4. Strong female characters are assumed to be hard and feminist (in an overbearing way) and I don't want to go there with it either.

These rules can be broken, but from what I've seen, female characters tend to be portrayed in the above patterns in many Rp's that I've played in. Such portrayal is similar to what I've seen in the media, especially Tv and movies. Which makes sense because, Many players draw experience for their characters from the media, (note the many Kovu's running around). I like well balanced characters and they tend to be more easy to portray in a male. Also I have fun RPing a male character.... ^_^
:)                                              !!!PLEASE DON'T THINK I'M A FEMINIST OR WHATEVER!!! *Dies*

1.) Yeah. I've seen many RPs where males tend to fight more often then females (and some where female-fighting is banned altogether)
2.) Heheheheh...
3.) Well yeah, the girls do all teh talkin' xD
4.) Most of the strong females I meet tend to be sort of...loner-ish. BUT if you meant strong as in having power over a pride/pack/clan/whatevar, the ones I meet in RP are always polite and gentle and...too careful with their words xD. It bothers me SO...MUCH... (That is why I never take high ranks)

Does that mean there is a higher percentage of females interested in the game or is a female character more connectable to Role Play audiences???

I think girls are more interested in games where you can play as animals for some reason. Guys aren't as interested in animals/roleplay (From what i've experienced) but there are some exceptions.

Naturally. It has been shown that most players are female, and many characters that are first created are the same gender as the pupeteer. It is easier to put yourself in the mind of someone the same gender as you. I have a female and a male character, and I tend to use the male more often ;D

I always wonder, why are there more females on FH anyway? I mean, you don't just get loads of females by chance, there obviously has to be some sort of fanbase going around.

The wolves are certainly overrated. Thankfully I can tell whether someone is a male/female. Most of the females have the side/eyecover hair, while most of the males (if they are indeed lions) have full manes.

Now that I think about it, you're kinda right. I do see more female wolves and more male felions.

I'm a girl and I always play as a female, mainly wolves (only two felions), but for some unknown reason I keep getting mistaken for a male with some of my wolves. It's super annoying.
