Discussion Board / Exclusive Forum Roleplaying Trend(How common is it?)
« on: January 06, 2014, 11:22:08 am »
This is out of my personal curiosity, how many people on here or out there in general tend to forum roleplays, posting in their threads and boards on various sites on the internet?

Personally I have never been the superb roleplaying user, and when it comes to Forum roleplays or roleplaying I have been quite turned off or avoided it in general so my knowledge around this particular question is very shallow. A vote in the poll if you're stopping by would help a lot.

One of the bigger reasons why I'm asking this here on this forum is basically because I am hosting my own forum that I'm looking to expand as time goes on, I've asked myself if maybe it would be worthwhile to modify the forum to hold a more vast community of roleplaying users and give them a second home or another pleasant forum to go to to spend some time in(if you want to know more then let me know). But I do want to check first and see just the general interest of forum roleplaying before turning it into a thing.

A forum is nothing without the users in it, and having nothing that binds like a game for example, it can be a rough business. Maybe someone got some tips or ideas as well of where to look or things worth thinking about too. Anything that could be helpful really. But do you roleplay on forums, and if so, how much?

Winter News & Updates

Even though things might look a bit calm in the news section we're always diddling around and changing/updating things on this site or around the game. If you haven't noticed the things going on we will try to make a quick re-cap and inform of some of the changes and additions. Some are of course newer and some are older than others, but let's get them out there.

Board & Site changes

We've had an overhaul of the "Member made tutorial section" section here on the forum. With this we've added a bunch of sub-boards to the section to split up and categorize various tutorials for members. Before we used to have one main thread that stacked up the threads, but since we've grown so much and the thread count became a bit too big for this type of a section where relevant information and help will be accessed new as old, it has now expanded into different sections, making things a lot easier to find and it being able to display more content. This, a change that will stick with us.

A while back, a "Preset Sync" test was put out by Raz, what does is that after an upload of a preset to the site here, it let's users sync their in-game presets with each other and view them in the game without the need of manually giving out download links or sending them around to each and every user you wish to show your preset to. This new preset Sync has turned out to work just fine and we'd suggest any preset maker to learn how to take use of this function to make things a lot smoother for you. Since this will not be the place for a tutorial about this we will link you to the thread that has all the information on how to set it up, here!.

For a while now we've had a new DJ at the FH radio, our lovely Dr.Flob has been taking care of the tunes for a few months now, recently Shallow joined in as a FH radio DJ and them both will now accompany each other in bringing some music and cheer to you all at Christmas, but also after.

Events & kewl sturf

We've got the nominations for Winter MOTS in full operation. Whoever of you that may have not nominated yet or missed out on the the earlier MOTS times, we'd suggest looking into the MOTS section and vote for your pick this time around. We've got quite a few dedicated members out there so make sure to show them their help is appreciated! You guys still have a week until it closes however so you still got time to decide.

We are having a Winter Party this year as well, and it's coming up fast now! It will take place tomorrow on Saturday the 21st @ 10pm UTC so if you can show make sure you don't miss out. A thread for this party that holds all the information and times can be found by visiting here~. Also don't forget to bring a nice outfit or pretty winter items if possible, maybe a little tail ribbon would be in order? We will meet you all there.

Side Note
On a quick side note we of course want to congratulate a bit late on Dr.Flob's passing of their MIT period here on the staff since they made it in quite a few months ago now, and likewise so we wish to congratulate Shallow for making it through and joining the Staff as well. You both have done well and we're more than happy to have you here. They'll do their best, we're sure. I also want to throw out here as well that the official FeralHeart Deviantart Group is now back to being a supergroup again, this means we will be able to engage some nice little polls there, organize the page a bit better and overall just make things a bit more fun over at our DA group(Thank Shallow yet again for upgrading). Other than that we will keep on with the work and stay dedicated to FeralHeart with all of you, and we hope you have a great Christmas.

Thank you for reading and stay awesome! Redlinelies outz~

Around these sections is usually not where I sniff around but in this case I'm actually here for a cause and I thought it maybe wouldn't hurt posting.

I just wanted to check if there's any forum lurker that has any interest in joining a new lion pride that I'm considering starting up. To throw things out there it will be semi realistic, semi literate to literate, and mapless to start off with to gain a proper foothold. It is aimed towards being more of a social long term pride rather than having the most epical and dramatic plot twists and roleplay. With other words I want a nice and tight group in the game roleplaying once in a while. It will be mostly game based however I'd want good contact through the prides own forum as well, so forum activity is nice.

If you're interested just give a reply below, or if you just have some questions it's fine as well. Thread is generally for me to see if there's much life around here or interest when it comes to joining lion prides in general, and I will let anyone interested know right away once the pride is ready to get kicked off.

Maturity and good behavior among members plays a big factor here keep that in mind!

News Archives / September News Update

Updates for September

Well Hello there! Been quite a while since we last had one of these. Overall counting away certain particular happenings FeralHeart and it's site has been a very calm place around updates and changes done lately. However there has been some stuff going on, and there's more interesting things coming up soon so it would be nothing but justified to try to catch up for some lost time on these.

Let's get started shall we.

Board & Site changes

There's been several board changes going on, one of these is that the Offtopic roleplay section has been quite modified and it now Holds 3 Child boards known as "Animal Roleplay", "Human Roleplay" & "Misc Roleplay". Now of course we are a site and forum aimed towards FeralHeart as our main focus, but due to spiking activity in these boards and the need from users spending time in there these boards have been added to give some more structure and help those using THIS very forum to roleplay having an easier time locating the type of threads or roleplay they are after. For this section WhiteLightHeart has also provided a nice sticky explaining the new boards and what sort of content it should hold, overall a much more cleaner place than just one board holding all of our Offtopic roleplays.

We are also happy to mention here for those that haven't noticed already by themselves seeing the "Sp" option when posting a thread, we now have a "spoiler" function on the SMF forum. This has been suggested and discussed a few times during this forums existence and for you that wanted one, well here it is! Just to click the button below and it will explain how it works for those who're unfamiliar with how this spoiler function works.

New stuff
All the other codes should work fine within this one, which means pictures and other stuff should show up just fine.

This will give users the chance to narrow down posts and let users see content only when they choose to, it can be for creations, it can be for roleplays, or in general it can be anything that could be new and interesting

The code is fairly basic

Code: [Select]

And can be found to your left above the smileys.

You can also set a title for it

Code: [Select]

But even nest spoilers within each other.

Extra new stuff
Derpderp

Code: [Select]
Derpderp
Going onto roleplay boards again we have also modified the FeralHeart Roleplay Section here on the boards. The most drastic change is really that the whole board "Free For All" has been removed completely. The reason of this was really that users were not following the actual guidelines when posting or just not quite understanding the concept of it, this left us with a board that lost it's purpose and instead now we will be focusing on two boards only which is the Group board and Group advertising board. We will most likely end up doing some sort of modification on the Roleplay Board sticky in a short future.

If you haven't seen the post in this very news section regarding the Preset contest already, we are currently having some issues keeping it running smoothly and well so it has been put on hold for now until it can be taken care of properly. Hopefully it will not be too long until we will be able to see it back up and running but we do hope it's understandable non the less. If you wish to read more in detail regarding this click here.

Some months back we posted a notice here in the news section regarding account usage(IMPORTANT NOTICE (Regarding Account Usage). Since this thread is, and still remains relevant towards users actions and choices they make with their accounts or accounts bump into, the thread mentioned above has been moved into the "Rules & Official Information" board. If you haven't read this already we strongly recommend you to do so. The game rules has also been slightly modified since a while back to put some light on the matter of account usage around the game in general.

Our staff page here on the site linked below the banner will be undergoing some changes in the upcoming times and might not look that pretty as things are being modified and structured up again. We will try to keep active and online staff listed so both new and old players will be able to click and find the information or contact they need there never the less. Chances are also that more than just the staff page will receive some changes and addition when it comes to the site links provided under the banner but we will see when or how this will take place as time goes on.

People in this community enjoy sharing their events and activites, make up new things to do with new or old friends really that they meet in FeralHeart. In the past users have been posting threads a little bit here and there around the Forum regarding activities such as livestreams or ingame events. In an attempt to make the boards less cluttered but also to make a go-to place for these sort of things we now have a completely new board in the offtopic section called Community Activities Hub. This board should make everything a bit more structured and fun for everyone so if you have anything fun you wish to structure up or do with players in the game or around this site, don't be afraid to take use of it.

We have also, with the help of Kiraralove and microfloof here on the forum, added two new translations of the FH game rules in Italian and Romanian. This is of course a rather good thing and we thank you two for providing this and hope those who need translations in these languages will take use of the new posts. As always, if you guys want to translate the FH rules into a language that isn't already translated it's not harder than to fire off a PM to us and we can get it up there sooner than you know it.

Events & kewl sturf

Now we do have quite a lot to mention here as well, especially when it comes to the MOTS we have and had. Since we haven't posted any news update post I really do believe it wouldn't be more than right to also mention the Spring MOTS along with the Summer MOTS we have now. So lets start out with what we missed mentioned here. Big and late congratulations to the Spring MOTS users. ~Shallow~, BouncyLion101, Feareh. You guys are still rocking.

The Summer MOTS However~
Lady_Alizarin, Thierry, Hugrf. Congratulations on becoming the Summer MOTS, we are happy to have you guys around being a nice face in our everyday around FeralHeart. Keep it up. Also don't forget Autumn MOTS is just around the corner!

We got fun stuff coming up for you lots very soon and if you have no clue what it is about then keep on reading. Our closest upcoming event here around FeralHeart. FeralHeart Official Roleplay Day (FHORD)! If you haven't clicked and read the thread like a maniac just yet, this event is something that last for a complete day of 24hours. The point is really to encourage roleplaying inside of the game and create a more interesting gameplay experience in FeralHeart. All the information regarding this event can be found inside of the thread/link provided above. We also would appreciate any sort of help possible regarding advertising for this event, journals or blogg posts, signatures here on the forum or other forums, any help is welcome to make this really special. Depending on how this event turns out we might make this a standard around our community and a common thing.

We are not quite done yet with the events, but as you know and feel that the Autumn times are here, what usually comes with it every year is an official Halloween party hosted for all our players, a time to meet up and show off your scary presets, listen to music or just do whatever a feral can around here during Halloween times. Of course we want as many to join and the information thread is already up here on the forum for you to look over. It will be held the weekend right before Halloween and of course things like times and preset submission and eventually party map will be explained in the thread provided below!

http://www.feral-heart.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=2&jfile=index.php&topic=39307.msg545736#msg545736

Side note

On a side note this time around we wish to mention that we had an MIT around for a while now, and this MIT is no one else but our DoctorFlob! Flob has been nothing but helpful around the game and site and we will see where things will move on from here. Big nuzzle to them!

With more fun things though to some less fun. As it is no secret by watching the official staff list here it has become a bit thin lately. Many of our staff is currently on a break from FeralHeart due to other activities or duties they might have in their lives. So with this said, Delay, Wolffox, Crin & Ramine is currently not listed as active and current staff. Now nothing says that this they will leave permanently but first things first in this case and we hope that they will find their way back to us sooner or later as staff. If this wouldn't be the case however we all appreciate the dedication and time spent helping around the game and community since it is a big task and means heaps to some of us if not all, not to mention that everyone deserve a break once in a while.

Now we do have many friendly and hard working faces in this community so of course things will keep on rolling here. I personally hope to see you guys on FHORD and the Halloween event coming soon and big sorries for being rather quiet over the summer when it comes to these updates. We will see when next one comes around.

Thank you for reading and stay awesome! Redlinelies outz~

Game Discussion / What is a "Good" preset file size?
« on: September 12, 2013, 07:34:47 pm »
So checking through the preset folder in my game I have quite the issue to put a grasp on what might be a "good" size for a preset. Now don't get me wrong, I know as anyone else that if you slap a higher quality image onto the preset of course it could look a lot sharper and better along with materials and other funky stuff..

But let me explain before you click any of the options above

It's all about being able to fit fun presets and creative ones within a certain size that aren't too big. I know there's some hardcore preset makers out there that without any troubles are able to get above 10MB worth of file size when the preset exported but this wouldn't necessarily be the most optimal one when it comes to downloading a bulk of files or running it inside of the game on a slower computer, some presets actually might be a lot bigger than they need to be. While other presets relying on just a few textures can be below 1MB but the more things you add onto it then of course this would increase.

What I want to know from you preset makers out there that do make them very often in different ways and sizes. What would be a "good" standard for a preset size, being able to fit most of the things you may wish into it without making too big for some to use or taking too long for some to download. The most optimized size really that is not too small, or too big.

I believe you get what I'm trying to say.

News Archives / Information about the monthly "Preset Contest".
« on: September 09, 2013, 06:00:10 pm »
As many of you know here around the boards we've had monthly preset contests going for quite some time now. I believe there's many that could find joy in such a contest since there's a lot of preset making going on throughout the community and remains a big part of the current game itself. After having the preset contest running for quite some time however with the help of some lovely people from the community, there's been some difficulties keeping things running smoothly and hence due to this the last preset contest held were postponed for quite some time. One thing we really dislike is when we aren't able to keep activities and events on time around here, so on behalf of myself and the whole staff we excuse for the last contest laying far over due time.

Since there's quite some things to focus on around the site and game it is believed that the best option to avoid it from keep on happening right now is to put this type of competition/event on hold for a few months and see how things look to hold a monthly preset contest after that or in general think over the structure of the contest to make sure it works as smoothly as it should. We will always try to kick things up as soon as possible but in this case I'm very certain we rather have things working properly and end up finished on time.

So with this said The Preset Contest is currently put on hold until further notice.

Thanks for reading.

News Archives / Regarding the roleplay boards (Please Read)
« on: August 26, 2013, 04:20:00 pm »
This thread will be aimed towards you forum roleplayers out there that spend time on our boards with your characters or roleplay groups, so if you do spend time on this it would probably be best to read.

We have currently removed the "Free For All" Roleplay section in the roleplay board.

Now before anyone goes haywire because of any of their threads being removed without notice let me say that they are not permanently removed just yet, so do keep on reading.

The so called "Free For All Roleplay" section has been removed from our boards. The reason of this is really because this section did not quite turn out as it were hoped to and it has happened more than once that users has shown confusion or concern regarding this section. Recently a thread was made making yet a good point regarding the boards existance(Thread can be found by clicking this), so it has been decided to remove this board all completely and put let users focus more on two boards we have here, which is the groups board, and the offtopic roleplay section.

Back when the "Free For all" roleplay section was made, it seemed like a rather nice idea to expand the forum roleplay section and give more options, but as shown now after time, and taking account of the other roleplay boards that does exist, is that this board quite doesn't provide the organization and simplicity that it was hoped for and could easily be replaced with what we have along side it. The most efficient way does appear to removing it at this time, so it will be moved away. Many people that has used this free for all roleplay section do appear to have used the threads, or made the threads in ways that easily could've fit in within the other boards, example of this is really threads advertising themselves as a roleplay group rather than just a roleplay thread for anyone to join. "(Now Accepting members)", or even cases where threads might even could've gone into the offtopic roleplay section here on the boards. The thing is that the users are the ones that makes the section with it's content, and the idea of having a list of roleplays in which anyone can join with different stories, and keeping it FeralHeart related(either with characters or locations) doesn't quite work out from what was seen, and it is a very hard matter in this case to know exactly which roleplays that could be deemed FH related, and those who're not in a section like that one.

So what is wanted from now on is that users try to place threads in a suiting section. The new "Groups Roleplaying Board" section, in here it will be a thread related to your ingame group in FeralHeart, a roleplay thread for that particular group. Bear in mind that if you wish to advertise for the group you can do so in the "Group advertisement" section of the roleplay board, that's what it's for. We have seen many threads in the groups board that is an information post regarding an ingame group, and that's been a bit iffy, do remember that these boards are where your forum roleplaying for your FH related groups(groups that exist in the game) should take place. If you are just after roleplaying on the boards, we'd really suggest the offtopic roleplay section, or if you join/create an actual group roleplay advertised on the forum.

As you can understand by reading this the structure of the roleplay section has not been holding up, and material has been placed a bit here and there. Maybe some names of the board or information in them will be modified as times goes on, but for now we must remove the free for all section and force proper usage of the advertisement board and group board onto users. There's still a lot of group advertising threads in the group roleplay section that needs to be moved however, and it will be looked into along with updating and modifying stickies of these board to make it more easy to get around.

Now for those that had threads within the free for all section:
You are free to message the staff and let us know if your thread fit the criteria to be moved either to the groups board(The thread must be FH related in some way), or if it's suiting for the "Offtopic roleplay board" we could move it there. WhiteLightHeart will be keeping some extra eyes on this case so just fire away a message to them if that's the case. Also if you do have a thread in the groups roleplaying board that is NOT a roleplaying thread, feel free to pm about a move of your thread to the correct board.

We will keep the old threads around if you still need them until the 20th of September, so if you still wish to use/keep any of your threads, be sure to message a pm to a staff member before that date.

We hope for this change to make things better and more organized around the roleplay section, in this very case, more boards wasn't better but things might change with time. I thank you for understanding and being patient as things are being moved and changed around.

News Archives / Game Server Downtime
« on: March 23, 2013, 06:23:59 pm »
As you guys are most likely aware of the site and game has been offline for the last couple of days. This has been due to maintenance work needed after some harddrive issues in which our game is hosted on.

For now the site is up, but the game is still OFFLINE. It will remain offline until things are sorted out so all you can do for now is to hang in tight.

As always some clarification that this is not an update to the game, just maintenance work since FeralHeart is a rather huge game and community for what it is and it might bump into technical difficulties just like any other game out there. Feel free to link users to this post wondering about the server status, etc, until the game is back up again.

Stay safe

Rules & Important Information / IMPORTANT NOTICE (Regarding Account Usage)
« on: February 07, 2013, 03:53:17 pm »
Something that has been brought to our attention lately and that has gotten more common is users acquiring accounts/login information for accounts directly off various sites on the internet maybe even "friends" or contacts.

The reason of this is either because of lack of patience when signing up for an account here or trying to avoid restrictions placed on their account due to their behavior in the game in the first place.

We want to point out that doing this will most likely not help you, rather doing the opposite. Since these accounts are NOT yours and most likely used by several users before, the account is most likely already banned for breaking the rules in the game.

As we have written in the rules, "Your account, your responsibility" means more than just the accounts you have, as much as you are meant to keep your login information safe and not share it with other users, the same goes other way around, you are NOT meant to use other users accounts to play the game, and if you still ignore this and getting all your accounts restricted from playing the game, it's your action and we will not lift the ban.

So I repeat:
- Do not acquire and use accounts that aren't yours if you want to stay clear from issues
- Do not lend out your accounts to other players and users if you want to stay clear from issues

Your account is for "you" only, please make sure it stays that way. The game rules has been slightly modified to make this more clear and I hope the rest of you members can explain this if it would be needed for someone. Why we are saying this here is to help everyone, not to restrict users from playing the game as they would want to.

If you share your account or sign into random accounts that aren't yours, you are taking that risk alone.

Thanks
