Title: failed to connect to map server

i was feeling a bit nostalgic and decided to redownload the game. i'm trying to run the base game (no mods, maps, textures, etc.) and i have downloaded the new patch. the "play game" tab is working just fine, and i'm able to access character creation, but whenever i try to actually play the game i get an error message that says "failed to connect to map server."

Is it possible when you last played the game that you left your characters in custom maps? They tend to get that message more than public maps do. Try creating a new character if you haven't already done so
