Title: Tearless's Mods - NEW: Stylized Texture Overhaul
Post by: Tearless on June 20, 2016, 06:41:49 am
(http://i.imgur.com/75XamC3.png)

You guys keep asking, so I'm delivering.

I wasn't lying when I told people repeatedly over the past three years that most of my textures just don't exist anymore, but the good news is that instead, I've remade the often-requested canine and feline overhaul entirely with better fur textures (though still in keeping with the original aesthetic), ALL of the eyes redone, and other bonus features that I didn't include before. I'm still working around the simple fact that being an adult is time consuming, so at least for now I'm still holding back on any GUI retextures and things like the galaxy portals or sci-fi moon, but hopefully this is better than nothing.

Canine and Feline Realism Overhaul

Download (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6qp1f6dw8w7rdn7/AAC5xPMLRZTCtWsxKVgwi_8qa?dl=0)
(Includes feline, canine, eyes, and markings)

It's new, it's improved, it's back from the dead. This mod replaces both the fur texture and masks of your characters for a look that's realistic, but stylized to still fit with the FH aesthetic. All textures have been repainted from scratch, with the exception of the wolf tail and eyes, which... turns out I had sitting around on my computer all this time for some reason. No idea why they survived all the other textures, but there they were.

If you like one part of the mod but not another (eg. you want your wolves modded but like your felines as-is, or you prefer the default markings) you can easily mix and match; everything is organized into folders and clearly labeled so you can only add the parts you want. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is combining, say, the default feline head mask with the modded feline body mask, since they are not compatible and the result will look like something created by Dr. Frankenstein, if Dr. Frankenstein had been a closet furry with questionable taste.

Felines
(http://i.imgur.com/aQgcfv8.png)(http://i.imgur.com/ORxB8Ir.png)(http://i.imgur.com/3tQgCEc.png)

Canines
Note: because the default canine re-uses the feline body mask (and that certainly doesn't work for a realism mod), the canine folder includes two new materials along with the textures. The names of the folders tell you exactly where to put everything. Also, the nails are part of a different mod not made by me (they can be found stickied in the Other Mods board) and aren't included.

Markings
I've done something new this time around. Since the default markings aren't particularly realistic and don't mesh well with the rest of the textures in this mod, I've created a series of replacement files for some of the default markings (mostly those based on real animals). I never want to look at leopard spots again, but hopefully it was worth it.

Like the rest of the mod, these will NOT affect how others see you, but it WILL affect how you see others. I've kept as close to the original idea of the markings as possible so no one should be negatively affected by any discrepancies in appearance.

Canine and Feline Stylized Overhaul

(Includes Feline, Canine, and Eyes)

So maybe realism is not for you, but you're still looking for something just a little snappier than the default. A little sharper, perhaps, or cleaner. Well, my discerning friend, today is your lucky day, because you now have access to exactly that at the very reasonable price of completely free. My goal here was to create something in the same general genre as the default, but as aesthetically pleasing as I could possibly make it, plus removed of several minor issues the default has. I even returned to my old arch nemesis, the FH wolf model, plus upgrading it with its own body mask. All eyes are redone as well. This doesn't include the redone markings (someday I might have time to make more stylized versions, but it is not this day), but it does work pretty well with them anyway and you can get them from the Realism Overhaul above without having to install the rest.

Felines
(http://i.imgur.com/ATTnN50.png)(http://i.imgur.com/6WE6Oj2.png)

Canines
NOTE: You must put the contents of the folder marked "This goes in Materials" into the materials folder or the body mask WILL NOT WORK.

I've been slightly obsessed with Elfquest lately, so I made a quick little moon retexture based on it. And speaking of quests, this is also part of my ongoing one to get my stuff to download properly. Let me know if it works.

To install, just drop it into your textures folder to replace the original (and as always, make a backup).

Shoreline Podium

Download (https://www.dropbox.com/s/eodgps2n0cs8oeg/Tearless%27s%20Beach%20Podium.zip?dl=0)

I noticed the new Podium map was making it difficult to design characters, especially dark ones, because of the overwhelming Space Odyssey-esque contrast and business the logo created. I know a few people have already made some very nice replacements for it, but I'm putting this one up because it has the benefit of being simple, unobtrusive, and low on items in case your computer, like mine, is seven years old and resents every second it has to spend running these fool newfangled video games.

I also just really love open grassy shorelines in general so there's that.

Presets
(I don't have time to make another banner right now, eh)

While I don't spend a whole lot of time in-game lately, I do enjoy making presets and don't really ever make/use characters without one, so here they are if anyone wants to see my chars  properly.

Newton

Download (http://www.mediafire.com/download/mbmtp22g18afia4/Tearless_1.fhp)

My not-really-a-fursona and walking David Bowie reference that I use most frequently both on the forums and in game. I mostly use him to chill on the maps and hang out with people, not generally for long term RPs (though he is fun to RP with so feel free to ask/strike one up if you see me wandering around on him).

Cochise

Download (http://www.mediafire.com/download/8prvddr3do9i6w7/Tearless_4.fhp)

Mostly a realistic coyote with some splashes of color. He's the only character other than Newton I can be found on regularly; I'm a fan of the vaguely 80s Southwestern aesthetic so I tried to subtly evoke that with him. Will also happily RP with him.

R. Gethin

Download (http://www.mediafire.com/download/r0sb7rtbaoizvsa/Tearless_9.fhp)

Found this old thing with the inexplicably surviving wolf eye texture. Getty is a robot panther whose sole defining character trait is being a robot panther, and due to the Three Laws is pretty much a harmless cinnamon roll who just happens to look like the Terminator. His visibly robotic parts are metallic and animated, and I'll also happily RP on him if asked.

oooo your back! And with all your wonderful creations as well!
I really love your mods etc. They have a nice feel to them, noticeably different, pleasingly aesthetic, but not over the top either.
Allot of people, when given the chance to mod something go wild with colours and fancy stuffs, but you tend to keep yours rather low key.
But anyway, thank you so much for the beautiful creations! You did a really good job on 'em. +floof

Welcome back Tearless ;o;"!! I am in love with your mods and I was so upset when they got super hard to find haha.

I appreciate these so much, they're so lovely and especially well done! My favorite markings are the husky ones! I downloaded these straight away skjhgs

This didn't happen to me o: the .ds_store files were in the zips but there were markings/masks in the folders.

Thanks guys! Really glad you're enjoying them. :3

I'm currently looking into the .ds_store issue; it'll show up in the folders because I work from a Mac (just ignore or put it in the trash, you don't need it) but all the rest of the files should definitely still be there. PM me with screenshots if you're also having this problem.

Wierd. Literally all there is in every single folder is a single .ds_store file and nothing else, it's completely empty. No masks, textures, or anything else in any of the folders at all.

Also found another person who had the missing files problem, so I'm thinking I'll try setting up a google drive link later today and see if that works better for anyone having issues.

I'm so glad you're back Tearless! As one of my most favourite modders for this game I was so upset when your addons got taken down. :c As for the .DS store problem... I think it's just a selective few people who's having the issues? It'd be a good idea to have another download link they can refer to if it happens.

Wow, these mods are absoluetly stunning! I am in love with the canine and feline retextures as well as the two husky markings. It actually looks like a real husky almost.
I know this may not happen, but could a dropbox link for download be put up for the retextures and markings since Mediafire does not work for larger files? I would love to get these mods and would like to use them for years to come if this ever happens. I understand if it cannot be done, as most mods only seem to have a Mediafire download and my Mediafire only allows me to download small files and not large ones like the retextures and markings.

indeed. I tried downloading this twice.
here is what happens:
1: I have the "Tearless Texture Overhaul" file.
2:Inside, there are two files. "_MACOSX" and "Tearless Texture Overhaul".
3: Inside them, both have the same files.
4: and inside all those files, there is a single file.

...that's it. I'm gonna try downloading it again, but I don't know why its doing this. mediafire is my best place to download stuff, so, idk.

Okay, I've moved my operation from mediafire to google drive (mediafire is awful anyway, nothing of value was lost). I was able to replicate the empty folder problem and it doesn't seem to happen with the new downloads, let me know how it works for you!

I also added a download for the podium map because apparently I forgot to do that. Whoops.

I've tried doing this, but for some reason when I replaced all the eye and texture files from the download they aren't showing up in the game. The game still shows the default feline fur textures and masks. The mod eyes don't show up, except for the first canine eyes. The canine textures work, but the fur shades don't. I've tried redownloading to see if there were any files that didn't download properly, but nothing has changed. I don't know if there are missing files that I need to add.

The markings worked fine though, and they look great!

You've done a great job with these, Tearless, but I'm having some troubles getting them to show up in the game even after I've put them all in the Textures folder.

Try putting them in the Mask folder. Might fix your problem. ;)
Texture>Masks

That solved my problem. Thank you  very much for your help. They look great!

I downloaded the star mod and the Podium mod. I was just wondering: Where are the star mods, I never see any star mods?
You have the only star mod that I know of.

HEY so it's been a long while, but I've finally gotten dropbox and updated the download links. If anyone who was getting the empty folders problem before wants to test it out, please let me know whether it's working (because I still can't replicate it with my computers).

hi!! i downloaded the textures but the canine ones dont seem to be working properly for me?? whenever i try to make a new canine character, it shows up like this:
i (believe) i did everything as accurately as i was supposed to. it works properly on my only canine char (i think??) though? hm.
edit: after messing around a little i discovered that the only colorable thing on the torso or whatever is the underbelly.
EDIT 2: nevermind, apparently it has nothing to do with the textures??

Made a new thing, this time an alternate texture overhaul that's basically a high quality rendition of the default style.

I'm also working on redoing the rest of the markings, since I spent the effort on half of them anyway, but that's going to take a good while yet.

Tearless makes a stunning return for a short time?
To add a lovely cartoony mod for us? How brilliant. :)

Seriously, though, I have to thank you for adding a Balto-esque wolf retexture. <3
I recently downloaded the realism overhaul, so I have to stick with that; but I might just download the cartoony version in case I feel silly one day.

They're basically placed in folders for easy access and organisation. You'll notice a folder named Canine containing everything for the canine textures. One which says media>materials. All the contents in there basically go into Local Disk (C:) \\ Feral Heart \\ Media \\ Materials, and you must replace if asked. To download them, you just click on the cmain.material and cmarkings.material, or right click then and open them in a new tab and hit "Download". When you go back into the canine folder, you will see another folder named media>textures>masks. You basically download everything in there by clicking on them, or right click then and open them in a new tab and hit "Download". You must place them in Local Disk (C:) \\ Feral Heart \\ Media \\ Textures \\ Masks.

Simply put, the four folders (Canine, Eyes, Feline and Markings) are for organization purposes only. So people can download specific things if they want to. When you click on one of those folders, you will see more folders, which are just named with instructions of where the downloadable contents of that folder need to go, as explained above with the canine files. I hope this helps, and good luck with downloading them.

By looking at the post below the main, there are many links. Here (https://feral-heart.com/smf/index.php?topic=57194.msg782037#msg782037), for your convenience. The post contains all the download links, which are hyperlinks. They look like this (http://www.examplesite.com). ^_^

If you have issues with the .dds files, download the unzipped version here. (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2zg0xv5xtsn3yu0/AAD9b6DKd_9dSPY94YHGFHB3a?dl=0)

Realism textures.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6qp1f6dw8w7rdn7/AAC5xPMLRZTCtWsxKVgwi_8qa?dl=0

Cartoony textures.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2zg0xv5xtsn3yu0/AAD9b6DKd_9dSPY94YHGFHB3a?dl=0

You'll want to click "Direct Downloads" in the upper right of the Dropbox screen and it is pretty self explained after that. MAKE SURE to extract the files with winzip or such by right clicking the downloaded folder if they don't show.

All of the images should be copied and pasted into Feralheart > Media > Textures > Masks. If asked to replace, say yes. Do that for all of the files you want in-game or used for presets etc. At the end, click the "This goes in Materials" and drag the file inside to Feralheart > Media > Materials and when asked to replace say YES!

I hope I helped some. <3

Did you click on the markings folder in the Dropbox link that was given? It should show a folder titled "media>textures>markings" and the markings should be in there.

aaaa the realistic textures are amazing!! i lot of other "realistic" textures are super dark and that always irked me. :|

i'm having a problem though. every time i try to download via that dropbox link it gives me the folders but they're empty. i tried it on a different browser/saving to my own dropbox/restarting my browser/reconnecting to my internet. the other downloads on the page work fine... it's only that one.

can someone compile their own copies and send them to me if possible?

I think that's an issue with the game itself, not just these texture overhauls. I don't use these modifications and have the same problem.

Hey, been a while, but I happened to drop in today for the first time in however many years and I can actually help with this so.

If the game files still work the same way they did back when I was involved around here, the vanilla canine and feline models use the same body texture, so that's why it does that. what I'd recommend if you want to use the vanilla texture for canines is actually to download my canine retexture, then replace the texture files with the vanilla ones (you'll have to rename the body texture to the name I gave mine, because I did some minor coding to get the canine model to use its own separate texture).
