Title: Veteran Player Nostalgia?
Post by: angelre0702 on July 19, 2019, 06:22:27 am
Hey!

I've been thinking lately about 1.13 Feralheart and before, specifically about the good times clueless kid me had on the server.

I joined April 2011 officially but ended up leaving for a few months because for the life of me, baby brain couldn't figure out how to use MMO controls. (Point-and-click's really aren't a thing when you're used to playing Free Realms and JumpStart.)

Are there any memories of 1.13 central FH that you, veteran players, miss?

Personally, I have fond memories of the "NO GOD MOD XD" TLK copiers that took informal residence on Pride Rock in Bonfire Island. It's like it was a competition to see who's more neon Simba could officially rule the Pridelands.

One of my earliest memories, back when Bonfire was the spawn point, was the buttswing chaos that eventually turned out a week-long shutdown of the server. It was also one of my funniest experiences as a kid because I had absolutely no idea what was going on.

Condensed specifically, though:

- TLK RPer's in Bonfire
- HTTYD/Dragon characters who vastly dominated Sky's Rim (And how if you fell before wings, you were... ahem, solidly out of luck, if you hadn't set your
   home)
- Diversely populated Ficho which contained the most egregious fight dogs to creepypastas to foreigners
- Ascension Island which acted as a chat-hub for those, commonly anime characters, who didn't want to face the difficult parkour course
- South Pole and their endless open dog-pack roleplays across the vast, snowy hills
- Cape of Distant Worlds' local chat at the cliff, as well as the TEC on their rock
- Fluorite's L(ion) island, stone-bridge, and what was dubbed the Mod's rock
- Human RPers who had to pay the price of either being eternally shirtless or butt naked due to the limitations of the Chimera markings
- General chat, well, in general.

That's all I can think of at this time, be sure to give me some I've missed!

Any experiences that you just don't see in the newer versions of the game?

Let me know.

I'm gonna miss that rock that sat by that tree out on the cape <'3
Ahh but everything you listed is basically the same for me as well. When I saw the rise of both the MC's and AC's ( Mating & Adoption Centers respectively ) I was hit hard with the nostalgia and it took me back to that place on Bonfire Island where the center was literally the hotspot for all the wild doggos and cattos to be together for about 5 minutes before moving on.
It's nice reliving and just remembering what it was like back then from time to time <3

I miss the map call outs of FP. Everyone knew L island, N/Z, Y river and stone bridge. Which was the best place to go to if you needed to find a RP. I also remember when the servers got so full you had to log on early to make sure you had a spot to be in FP for the hot RP hours. Mostly those of us who owned large RP groups had to make sure to fight to be on so we could spam every hour for new members. Always an active RP to join no matter what time it was as well.

Wow I adore this topic so much, way to bring back some memories.

• Lets not forget the sandy beaches on the outer part of cape where people would head to roleplay all kinds of things as well there, and the "outlander" spot behind the prideland hill in bonfire.
• Oh and you can never forget those old "experiment 142" characters and the deer that would scatter about bonfire!
• I can definitely say I miss old Ficho a lot, lets not forget those pokemon roleplayers that would sit about the little pond thingy in there as well.
• The mapped roleplays advertising from General around Cape Portal in Flourite as well.

I miss these maps oooh so much, you knew exactly where to go to roleplay your special character.

Ohhh and forgot to add, I ALSO played FreeRealms, man that game has some great memories, if you didn't know it is being brought back but literally FREE this time, feel free to PM me and I'll grab the Discord Link for ya! ♥

I've not been around nearly as long as a lot of others who would be considered "veterans" nor do I really call myself one, but I was here back way before the patches and updates. Enough I think I knew quite a bit of stuff that others who are considered veterans would, so regardless if it applies or not, I do remember a lot.

I remember the feel of when I first joined, always looking for a "family" and being a pup in the Adoption Center, or after I was comfortable doing it, finding a mate at the Mate Center. I never dreamed that years later, it'd actually be a really nostalgic and honestly happy feeling to see one pop up again. Makes me wanna get on the ol' AC character on a busy weekend just for fun.

I had I think one family that I remember pretty well compared to others, it could've been two different ones and I'm merging them in my mind, but I had fun while it lasted. I was a wolf pup and grew up a little each day (I think in real life days?) and lived in the cave at Bonfire. Either this is where I'm in another pack or we moved and formed a large pack in Fluorite Plains.

I also hung out in Ficho quite a bit and it was where I met someone who I talked to for years. Again, never thought I'd be happy to see another "BEN Drowned" character, but I am. Gotta say I got in a few arguments there though, but eh. I also tended to be a lot of FNAF characters and would usually go to Ficho for that, but never really roleplayed as them much, plus it made me too nervous to roleplay as characters I liked, and still does honestly.

Sometimes I think it'd be fun to go back and just watch the weird but amusing chaos that would break out in places like Bonfire, or observe the people in Ficho. I wish I stayed active in more roleplays and groups too, but I usually got distracted or bored from them, and again, probably still would. Though I'd love to join one of those mapless wolf packs that accepts just about anyone and is gone the next day every now and then, just because.

Also YES someone else who played FreeRealms and JumpStart. I need a Punk-Punk plushie or something and a t-shirt with the FreeRealms logo with all the areas in a swirl on it.

Ficho tunnel with them creepypasta, anime, fnaf, pokemon, and whatever else roleplays.
I went through one of my old sketchbooks and found a drawing that was based off of a scene I did in a Pokemon roleplay. Made me so happy.
I remember being a demon and roleplaying with some angels too..
South Pole was my favorite, me and my friend started a pack and I was a brown wolf (bad colors against snow lmao) named Hail. I remade him onto this account ^^
Sadly, I never went onto Bonfire because my (dad's) Mac couldn't handle it.

Also FreeRealms and JumpStart were my jam (more of FreeRealms though), I was a ninja with a fire sword named Jared and I had a shy brown cat named Koko who had a red sweater on.
ToonTown and Club Penguin were also a huuuge part of my life.

I almost totally forgot about the fantasy Temple of Dreams characters that populated that map.

Reading these replies got me in the sads, y'all. I miss old Feral Heart!

This may come off as controversial but frankly the unique "specialness" of the old maps never really translated into the new - it was the history that kept people coming back, not the fanciness or decoration of the maps themselves. Not to be unappreciative of the hard work that went in to them, but I'm of the mind that totally wiping the old face of FH wasn't the best of ideas...

South Pole was literally just endless snowy plains, but it was known as the "wings patch" map because it aired alongside them when LKD came back for that brief Christmas period. Everything grew from there!

I see Mate Centers spring up every now and then but the crowd it used to draw doesn't really exist anymore. I guess they vanished with the old maps.

Last Cave sure was something as well. One of my favorite things to do, back when Atlantis backpacked off South Pole, was to explore the underwater ruins. There seemed to be something around every oceanic corner. The coliseum was, for it's time, frankly beautiful.

I agree with a lot of responses in saying that the activeness is a postcard from the earlier iterations of Feral Heart - people all kind of conglomerate in The Grounds but the meaningless roleplays and sparkledog characters don't exist anymore.

Current Feral Heart has turned itself into an inactive chat hub more than its predecessors, in my opinion.

and like doing it constantly to give some people a migraine perhaps... jk lol

I remember a lot of these, however one always stuck out to me. That would have to be the beautiful collection of creepy pasta RPers in Ficho. Every time I ran through there I always took into account of how many there were. I do miss being able to go anywhere and each map had it's own group of people to converse with. Each one had it's own unique feel to it. However the Grounds that we have today is a very interesting mix of those characteristic faces we've seen grouped together in older maps, so they are still around~

i'd kill to go back to where i didn't know how to leave bonfire island.

that's where most of my fond memories lie.

I agree with angel, FH now doesn't have the special feelings that it does before.
I feel that mainly because I rarely see roleplays anymore, and if I do, they don't even use FH for it, they use Discord.
I feel that the new maps have huge potential, but no one gives it the chance to thrive.
Everyone sits in The Grounds just talking.. and even that is highly boring.

- kind of weird but getting a "bad token" these days gives me nostalgia. i rarely get it now, but the servers were packed to the brim in the game's prime of 2011-2012 and it wasn't uncommon.
- taking screenshots to get up the waterfall, before a method was made when dashing was added. also taking screenshots to get on top of the walls of ficho tunnels.
- the path to the temple of dreams map. it was super glitchy and you often fell through the objects if you went too fast. temple of dreams itself was an empty place with only a few roleplays on the top, but i used to love going there. i remember making a friend and flying through the circles with them thinking we were acrobats. :')
- ASCENSION ISLAND. i love parkour maps and i mastered it really quickly.

I second all of these.
But I honestly miss South Pole, Atlantis, and Last Cave. While the latter two were pretty empty, they were still really cool atmospheric maps to explore. I fondly remember exploring some of the sunken coliseums with a friend, and even seeing an amoeba roleplayer by the beach. I didn't even know that Last Cave was a map before I stumbled into the portal. South Pole was quite the chill meeting spot. Not as many people as Stone Bridge or Bonfire, but I remember my forum friends hanging out on the hill when the other maps got too crowded.
Also not really game nostalgia, but the OG last post wins thread. Had some fun memories with that one.

All of these are bringing back memories.

Y'all remember the large stone "mountain" in Fluorite that, once E-dash-glitched into, was a popular open RP spot?

This game used to be so much fun. Endless daily content for you to enjoy because not anywhere was the game totally barren. I remember getting frustrated that you couldn't just sneak off with your friends - you were always trespassing in some "territory".

Oh the good ol' days.

I remember people forming big circles in Bonfire where they would just hang out and chat with other players. And the massive dance lines, where everyone would headbang/buttswing in sync. ;v; Those were great.

I remember avoiding Stone Bridge at all costs so that my game didn't crash from the huge amounts of lions there.
I also remember mastering Acension's parkour. I could do it so quickly.

The thing is, I can access all of my old characters if my friend is able to get into her account (we shared one at the time). I can just marvel at the old, cringe-worthy characters.

The only places I could really go to were South Pole, Atlantis, Last Cave, Cape, and Fitcho due to massive lag in Flourite and Bonfire (For the first two years I played, I couldn't even get into FP because i kept getting bad tokens). I just remembered spending most of my time in South Pole because Fitcho was a scary place where all the (sorry if I offend anyone, but this is how my childish brain worked) weirdos hung out.

I can just marvel at the old, cringe-worthy characters.

I still do that from time to time, go back and look at my old account.... so many mary sues and tragic backstories...

I wish I could go back, but I remember some of the characters.
Some were serious, some weren't.
Edgy for sure though.
I never did Mary Sues, I was perfectly fine if my character died too lmao

LOL Same here, though. If someone whispered me asking if they could kill my character I was like "A'ight, that's fine I guess. I can make another character, screw this one."
Not really my finest moments, but my god I was a dramatic kid

slinking around in the foresty part of bonfire, going with the weekly species rps..
keeheh..fox packs.
i never did a mate center in my day, though. they annoyed me more than anything.
other things i did? ran around fluorite, tried to identify every single spot from all the videos i watched religiously. browsed stone bridge for the perfectly calibrated warriors rp that my tiny mind thought would last longer than 2 hours post-recruitment, attempted to make my own maps, browsed the forums for cool maps to explore with my pal, hart..
god. there is/was/probably a lot more. if i was patient enough tonight i'd open my old laptop and browse my screenshots and tell a lot more.

I remember just how incredibly vast Flourite Plains felt, and the diverse RPs that would happen there. However I do NOT miss the fights over den-claiming LOL. I feel like there always used to be people on, and no matter the time of day you could find an RP to join. The common names for landmarks as well; everyone knew where "L Island" or "Stone Bridge" were on the map. I mostly just miss seeing the hundreds of people online.

I Joined in 2011 and remember back before wings, dashing and items were added. It's sort of fuzzy now, but I recall for some time there was an infamous group glitch. Every once in awhile your groups, if they got too large, would be completely deleted. You'd need to alert and find all your friends and re-create the group and add them. I recall it happening quite a few times on me. Was super annoying and took the longest time to fix.

Lowkey I don't miss that and it wasn't a fond memory, but I don't think many people know about it being a thing back then.

I remember when I first joined I didn't realize there was a way out of Bonfire, so I was stuck in there for a week or so. I was too anxious to ask anyone until I finally spoke up. I think back then I was too self-conscious about my age, being older on a game where there were a lot of younger players. Thankfully it doesn't bother me anymore, I just kinda shrug if it's brought up.

I miss general chat and seeing that bright red moderator text when people got in trouble. I miss the N/Z tree and the den on the other side of the hill that was a hot commodity back then. Same with that larger cave all the way in the North of Fluorite Plains. There was also that spot with the rock platforms where the platform stuck out of the ground just enough so you'd fit under it and use it for a den. There was always large wolf fighting rings in Ficho Tunnel too for some reason? A lot of Pokemon roleplays flocked there too. I know Ascension Island was sort of the hub place for fandom groups and characters.  I just remembers there being so many Homestucks lurking around in there.

i remember this!! also when group chats would leak so everyone can see someone's message, or getting "-character name- has joined" messages in the chat when you are not even in a group. it was so weird and confused me for the longest time.

I have like, one really vivid memory of the "old" FeralHeart that I think about a lot that makes me super nostalgic. Listening to that specific song in Ficho Tunnels (Moon Temple, I believe it's called) while sitting around roleplaying or wandering the map on my own brings back so many memories and good feelings. I used to play this game a lot when I was sick with mono and other things, and just remembering that brings the good feelings that had come with it. I wish I could go back, sometimes! It really is the soundtrack that makes me nostalgic...

Also, the absolute chaos of Bonfire before they added lonely cave. The computer I had used was old and pathetic and it took me forever to get away from the spawn point. I was so relieved when they added Lonely Cave. I also miss the random Lion King roleplays at the little cliff of Bonfire, or the random fox and wolf pups wandering around.

I also miss when custom maps weren't super duper complicated! It's such a weird thing, but I loved the simplicity of old custom roleplay maps that just used the default FeralHeart items. I had some of my best roleplays in those maps. Also, when everyone used Skype groups for their roleplays instead of Discord, LOL.

Also, the husky and arctic wolf roleplays in South Pole. I've been itching to be in one ever since, but I feel like it's too late now, LOL. It just seemed like there were simply more roleplays back then, and like someone said earlier, nowadays they're basically all on Discord. It just felt like the roleplays back then were a bit more... genuine? I don't know the right word for it. Recruiting at Cape Island in Fluorite was one of my favorite things to do. Now everyone just runs around in the chaos that is The Grounds.

though i'm in the same place as angel, where i was around ever since around 2014, i can relate to all of these.

i remember a lot of fluorite of course, but i remember joining in on some pokemon roleplays around crystal lake that would die out really fast. man.

i really miss that one temple too, temple of dreams i think?

sometimes me and friends would frolic in ascension island, not even really doing the parkour. agh, such simpler times really.

Out of nostalgia, I'm actually going to go through with playing on my AC character on my old/first/this account. I'll leave everything on her as is, maybe except an explanation in the bio. I probably won't get anyone, but at least I'll be "useful" while I'm tabbed out.

Also, does anyone else remember the Steven Universe roleplays/maybe just characters around the wooded area of Bonfire, somewhat towards the ramp/hill to get to the "pride rock" area? I never joined one, but I remember there being a few here and there. There were also horses, though I don't think I ever joined one of those either. I joined a chicken group once though.

Also I don't see this as much anymore, but those "army" kinda things where everyone made a similar looking or the same character and ran around, possibly trolling or just being silly. Like, there was one that was the "Tiny Blue Dog Army" I think? Something along those lines.

remember that one island in fluorite everybody would gather on?? i miss that strangely bad.

Reading all these comments has made me incredibly sad! I joined late 2011 (had like 3 older accounts at the time for some odd reason, kid things), and I think looking through my insanely long friends list made me the saddest of all! How are these people doing? Are they alive? It's so saddening, and bonfire was by far, my favorite pass time as a teen. If FH was still the way it was, but edited with maybe newer textures but same map layout, I would most definitely still have been on. So many memories, and the best part for me was the MC and AC because it always brought along new friends I guess, and I usually went there after making a new character to stalk bios and see if my character was attractive or not... x'D  Had met one long lasting best friends on FH and I actually met her IRL earlier this year, was a blast, and wouldn't have happened if not for this game.

The Warrior Cats had some sort of impact, because I definitely loved seeing everyone's kitties, and making a small little clan within a big clan. There were places to go and places that usually kept the same, and in some cases, changes aren't the best for a working system. I'm not even going to water it down, I hated the updated back in 2016 (or was it 17? don't remember) and I still do. My opinion is that it should have never been so entirely changed like that. And when account creation was basically never available, it killed off most of the population. I understand the reasoning, but I can't help but still be bitter about it. But I certainly do cherish those memories very much, FH helped me meet amazing people and it's just a distant memory now.

Ouch! I'm wounded. I came back to this site to riminess and this post completes it well.

I joined August 2011 and played religiously. It was my high school life. I don't regret it at all. To this day I think about my friends from FH--they were some of the best people I've ever had the joy of knowing, and no other game has come close to matching this community.

My favorite memories were:
-The CCC group
-Lurking in Ficho Tunnel to chat with people because everyone else was doing the same. This is where to find friends
-Spontanious color-coordinated mobs (i.e. everyone with black pelts and assorted neon cheetah markings)
-Screenshot folder overrun with pictures of Ficho's wall
-Changing the howl sound file to be something stupid ("UNEXCEPTABLEEEE CONDITIOOOONS! UNEXCEPTABLEEE!!!"
-Coordinating the relocation of your whole squad to a different map (*stampeeding running sounds, spamming E, someone crashed in the portal, one day we'll reach Last Cave*)

I think about this game a lot. I'm starting my third year of college and it seems so long ago, but sometimes I go back and watch my old "Feral Heart Music Videos" and feel a powerful nostalgia mixed with shame of my dorkiness.

I remember a lot of things, including the movie nights, sitting on the rocks at N/Z in FP a lot of time with good friends, or even joining in on RP's that happened over in places like L Island or near the Temple of Dreams portal, and those are just to name a few. I have many fond memories of that time. A lot of it I captured in screenshots as well. I enjoy sharing these memories, especially with others who can relate to them, or even newbies who want to know what it was like back then. I also enjoyed reading everyone else's and sharing a lot of them in common. <3

I started here sometime in 2011, July. It seems harder to find a RP in these new maps, there's not the variety of species/characters there used to be. There tends to be a couple of groups advertising in The Grounds each day and unless you fit in with their criteria to join, you tend to be sh*t out of luck :( !

That said, I miss Bonfire the most, I'd so love to see TLK RP's again where anyone can just join in!

I remember roleplaying pokémon at Ficho Tunnel’s crystal lake. I liked to be pokémon-realistic as possible, with moves, abilities and stats, and how I followed my trainer’s commands. I remember that I have played as Sceptile, Scizor, Noivern, Tornadus and a shiny Ditto xD

Good times.

I joined back in 2012 but if I remember correctly, I wasn't active in-game until 2013/2014-ish?

My laptop at the time was a hunk o junk so it would always overheat and shut off if I spent too much time in Bonfire mate centers or hung out at the Stone Bridge too long. I stopped playing for a while because the laptop just couldn't handle it after playing for long periods at a time. I just kinda forgot about FH tbh lol. Sadly, I was gone for so long that most (if not all) of the ppl on my friend list/ppl I interacted with are loooong gone. But I'll always have the memories! :D

I remember how easy it was to make friends in Ficho! It was such a great place to meet new ppl!
I miss how crowded it was in Bonfire and Flourite, even if my laptop overheated XD
I remember how excited I was the first time one of my friends showed me the portals to Atlantis and Last Cave!!

I joined FH in 2011 but wasn't very social (I started to actually interact with the in-game community in like... 2015). I just made maps and sat around watching others and taking screenshots of my characters, but it was fun, and I miss it.

- Sparkledogs and 2edgy4me black and red wolves
- Ficho Tunnel being full of fandom roleplayers
- Screenshotting to get up the waterfall in Ficho
- Getting lost in Fluorite
- Stone bridge
- Mate/pup centers, buttswing lines, and the general chaos of Bonfire Island
- When Bonfire Island was the spawn point and there would be so many people online that the game would crash
- The rise and fall of FH+
- Simple custom maps that only used the default FH items
- Ascension Island being full of foreign language-speakers and Hetalia fans
- That feeling of success when you got to the top of Ascension Island for the first time (and in my case, subsequently being a bit disappointed that Sky's Rim was so bland... lol)
- Hyena RP groups were common- you don't really see those anymore
- The Feralistic and Naturalistic mods (fun fact: I still use Naturalistic)
- Random people asking if you can be their mom/dad/pup/mate

There's probably so much more I could write, but man, FH used to really be just such an active, fun place and I'm glad to have experienced it back in its golden days.

Even though I first joined just a couple days shy of eight years ago (I didn't have any idea what I was doing and got a tiger character into Fluorite by sheer luck; I think that me cheesing off a lioness as a hyena was on the same day), my first really big, prominent FH memories were at some point in 2012, when I found Bonfire and stumbled upon the island's Lion King roleplayers.

By far my best memories of FeralHeart were through TLK roleplays; I'll gladly admit that I was really big on the whole idea, especially playing through the events of the first movie playing out pre-Lion Guard interpretations of what everything was like before said movie.

As for a few other things I have (not all necessarily fond...) memories of:

I'm probably forgetting a lot of stuff, that's what comes to mind as I write. Maybe one or two of these things are still relevant, I haven't played enough of the current game to know for sure (from experience it's just people sitting alongside the road connecting Lonely Cave and The Grounds... and nothing else... no open roleplays or weird occurences, just... sitting and occasionally talking...)

I have been around since about 2013.

I definitely miss the old Warrior Cat roleplays. They would reach upwards of 100+ people in the groups so you could always expect someone to be on and willing to roleplay with ya. I also miss one very specific roleplay run by Raspberry that was an elemental group. Made many a friend in that group and in the old WC groups!

I have a golden memory of exploring the last cave together with a random user. It was a way to have wonderful time with anybody. We just made up stories and mysteries about the map and it was pretty wholesome to do that if I dare say.

i could honestly write a novel with all the stuff i can remember from my FH heyday (i joined in february 2011, and was relatively active 2011-2013), but i think the most distinctive would be joining what were, at the time, some of the most prestigious and popular clans back then...and then the subsequent drama dissolving them. :")
plus, SO MANY warrior cats RPs! i had no idea what warriors were before i joined FH and i'll admit i joined some clans without an absolute clue what i was doing, but once i learned (and learned how to RP right), i was hooked! i wish it was still as active as it was back then, but i'm glad i have so many good memories ^^

i have bad memory so i cant recall everything, but i do remember the absolutely random rpers in ficho, mate centers in bonfire and buttswing lines, in which all 3 of those i would participate in : P
