Title: Can anyone help me with my map? [Solved! Thank you all so much!]
Post by: Nephrite on January 02, 2016, 08:17:21 pm
I'm trying to make a map for a future roleplay of mine, but I'm having issues with the map. My height map it 513x513, greyscale, in .png format, but the game crashes whenever I try to use it! Firstly, I'd like to know what all of the requirements are for a height map, and secondly, if I were to send the map, sky, terrain and all of those files to someone else, could they put the map tongether for me and send it back to be edited with objects and whatnot?

Thank you for any answers!

Edit: I fixed it! :D I'm so happy thanks guys

Are you using GIMP for your heightmap?

I used Photoshop, is that the issue?

Make sure y'er not naming the file with spaces. If there are spaces, 'twill cause FH to crash.

If y'er using GIMP, make sure that all the layers are compressed. Sometimes ye 'ave to copy all that's visible and place it on a clean "page". I 'ave to do this constantly b'cause FH doesn't recognize that I've already compressed it to one layer. This may also be an issue with photoshop, but I'm not certain since I don't ever use that program.

And to answer y'er last question, yes. If ye send all the correct files to someone else and they know how to, and do, place them in the correct places they can use the files themselves and make the map f'er ye.

As stated above you must use Gimp (as a recommendation) to make heightmaps, because you can remove and add alpha channels. Your alpha channel is probably on, to check that go to layers> Transparency and if it says "remove alpha channel', remove it. That is one of the important requirements and I think you followed all the others. Oh! And make sure the colors are 'pure' shades of grey, it shouldn't have a dot of red, green or blue mixed with it. :)

Hope this helps and if you have anymore problems let us know! <3
