Title: Would a Cheiger be able to purr?
Post by: Oddonelynx on August 22, 2019, 11:05:06 pm
Tigers are a roaring big cat, but any big cat that can roar can't purr.. Cheetahs are a lesser big cat who can purr but not roar, so if they had a cub/kitten, would he be able to roar and purr...? Or would he just growl when content that sounds like a purr..?

I'm not sure, I suppose it'd be up to genetics, whether it'd take more of the tiger's genes, or the cheetah's. Perhaps it'd maybe be a mix of a chuff and a purr? Who knows.

Hmmm...I would think it would be a mixture of a low growl and a purr.

Well in order for it to work, the cheetah would have to be the dad, so his genes would be more dominant..

the reason why only certain cats purr is because of an action specifically made by the small feline cat group, also including cheetahs for some reason (it's hard to explain).
in real life a tiger and cheetah hybrid would be impossible due to genetics, but in fiction this could be determined by the person creating the character. imo it would make more sense if the character looks more like a cheetah than a tiger.

there's no such thing as male or female genes (except for maybe X and Y chromosomes). gender has nothing to do with basic inheritance.
i'm biology obsessed so i had to correct this. ;w;

No problem dude, there's even cheiger markings, which resemble a hybrid of tiger's & cheetah's
Also, by the dad's genes is dominant, I meant that in appearance..

Yeah I understand what you're getting at in the case of a Liger/Tigon, but it's moreso due to development. It's complicated xd
