Name: Kojak
Age: 9 years old
Gender: Male
Species: Bobcat (Lynx rufus)

Appearance
Kojak is a bobcat tom made of muscle, and fat, weighing at 36 lbs. His once dark woodland brown fur has turned to a rustic barnwood color. His fur has its own unique pattern of subtle spots, as well battle scars he’s gained over the years. Kojak has some permanent scars on the left side of his face; scars he received in battle against a tyrant clan leader. He is slowly losing his sight due to old age. Therefore, his aging eyes have gone from a golden honey to a color that resembles a cloudy sky.

Personality
Unlike most bobcats, Kojak is more docile and gentler. He is wise, patient, sage, and open-minded to new ideas. He is a loner by nature, preferring to live away from others, but still keeping in touch. Kojak is like those old Southern gentleman, polite, hospitable, disciplined, family oriented, and takes care of business. He may be old and docile, but he’s still very much a wildcat with experience and bite.

Background
Kojak is the grandfather of the bobcat family line known as the Wildcatters. The Wildcatters are a bobcat family group that are dispersed throughout their homeland. This family has lived in the feral lands for countless generations. Everything changed when clans of felines known as domestic cats grew in population, expanding their territories greater and wider. Not only did clans fight one another over resources, the bobcats found themselves caught in the middle of it all. Bobcats and warrior cats would fight each other over land, hunting grounds, prey, and other necessities. Since the clan cats outnumbered the bobcats, the bobcats were forced to leave the land they knew as their home. Competition for survival was getting fierce, and most left in search of new homes.

Kojak was a young tom when the clan population was booming, and he too was struggling to keep hold of his own territory. He did't want to give up the one and only place he called home, so he tried everything he could to find a solution to bring peace between the clans and remaining bobcats. Most of the clans were untrusting and skeptical of such wildcats. As far as they were concerned, bobcats were seen as enemies, nuisances, and a threat to their survival.

“Why should we form an allegiance with such barbaric cats? They hunt the prey we desperately need to feed our own, and they kill our warriors quicker than any fox ever could!”
"He's not one of us, therefore he cannot be trusted."
"Bobcats are not our friends or allies. They do not know the Code or honor StarClan."

Kojak was persistent, trying any means to earn their trust, going as far as to learn their ways of life to help better his own. Through hard work and dedication, Kojak came to an agreement with a few clans. The clans would allow him and his family to stay in their homeland without any disputes under certain conditions. Kojak agreed to respect the clan ways, the territory borders, and come to their call if they so needed him. Through the years, Kojak has been faithful to clans like ShadeClan, NatureClan, StormClan, MoonClan, PapyrusClan, LilyClan, FrigidClan, and GeodeClan. What has he done for them? He’d partake in battles against the “evil” clans that step out of line, hunt prey that is near impossible for them to manage (deer, turkey, or pheasants), drive out any foxes, badgers, or coyotes from their territories, or help in clean up after natural disasters. Kojak had built friendships and relationships with clan cats over the years, including romantic relationship with she-cats. He’s had many children, both bobcat and hybrid children. Most refer to his hybrid offspring as “pixie bobs”. Many of his hybrid children have grown up to be respected warriors in their clans.

Today, Kojak is living like an old man in retirement. The bobcat is too old to go out into clan battle and get his hands dirty. He’s not as young or strong as he used to be, so it’s up to his children and grandchildren to finish what he started. He's living his evening years in solitude in Cherika Valley. He can be seen wandering around outside the valley to visit friends and family.

Do you know how happy it makes me to see another bobcat character in Feral Heart? I love her! She should meet the Wildcatters some day.

The trailer for the new live action (99% CGI) Lion King movie! Comes out in theaters next July!

There, I fixed it for you.

the animals strike me as weird to look at

i can't tell if it's uncanny valley, or that they just move too... fluidly.

I must admit I kind of agree with you there. Most of the animals appear to be CGI in this film, so it kind of takes away from that natural feel. The people who make these movies want to pass off CGI photo realism as "live action" nowadays, and to me that doesn't make any sense. Why call it live action if it's mostly photo realistic CGI? By that logic Shrek is a live action movie: the animation is photo realistic, right?

Don't get me wrong, I do want to go see this movie, and I can't wait until it comes out in theaters. However their idea of "live action" is a little misleading.

Welcome back to the game.
As others have said before, roleplays in the game have really changed since you were here. Most roleplays I see advertised in the Grounds map are usually mapped roleplays, or roleplays for Discord. There are some mapless, siteless, and Discord-less roleplays here and there, but they are few, far and inbetween. Most of them don't last very long either. Most roleplays are running off to Discord, and spending less time in the FH game itself. You can try running around and looking for roleplays that interest you. If you can't find any you like you can start one of your own. I wish you good luck.

Game Discussion / Never a Dull Moment
« on: January 16, 2019, 02:40:07 am »
Back in the old days of Feral Heart, members were more active, more social, and a little more chaotic at times. Do you remember the days when...

-You'd be sitting in a random place on a popular map, and suddenly a lone player would come up to you and say, "Kills you no miss!"?
-Warrior Cat roleplays all over Fluorite Plains. Most would be fighting over "territories" and clan spots?
-Powerplayers and godmodders everywhere?
-People looking for mates?
-People looking for pups/kits/cubs?
-Exotic animal roleplays in Bonfire Island?
-Players arguing, "You stole my character!" "You stole my name!"?
-Roleplayers up on the pride rock of Bonfire with names like "Simba Official" "the real Nala" "Offical Kovu"?
-Roleplays being interrupted when another clan/pride/pack came over to your roleplay spot to start a random roleplay fight?

Never a dull moment in the game, right?
There was always something happening, whether it was a good thing, bad thing, or a bit of an annoyance. Back in those days there were more players online, therefore things could be more chaotic!

Is it strange that I miss that? Is it strange that I kind of miss those moments that were a little chaotic and not so dull? I feel like the community has been a little too quiet lately. Could it be that there's fewer players? Maybe those who would start some drama have learned and moved on? Could it be that newer players are a little shy? Nowadays everything just seems so dull. Maybe it's just me, I don't know. I would be more active in the game if there was more going on like there used to be.

What is your thought on this? Do you miss those days where there was never a dull moment?

Sad but true.

I do like seeing literate roleplays here and there, but I don't like it when some of these literate roleplayers can act so condescending to some of the younger, newer, or less advanced roleplayers in this game. Back in the old days of Feral Heart, more people were more open to roleplaying no matter the skill level. Nowadays not so much.

I think the reason we see a decline in some fun roleplays is because some of these "literate" roleplayers keep discouraging, shaming, or nit-picking who they roleplay with. Pretty much they're running people off with the condescending attitudes! Are all of them like that? No! However, I see it happen frequently here in the game. In fact, I just ran into such a person today.

Story time.

Note: Usernames have been blurred out to protect the identities of the players.... even the rude ones.

There was someone who was looking for a wolf pack roleplay to join, and they advertised their wish on movie. I tried to help them out by throwing out some suggestions (We communicated through movies). I noticed a wolf pack gathered around one den of Kibou Ridge and asked her if she tried asking that pack to join. She told me she had not tried them, but she was going to. Suddenly, one of their members made their own movie reply by saying, "Plz dont point us out unless there literate". Pretty much they didn't want her to join their pack unless she was literate. This member was not the leader of the roleplay and they were already calling that shot out.

I couldn't believe it!
Who am I kidding? Of course I could believe it. How dare I try to help someone find a wolf pack roleplay group they've been searching for? The nerve of me! All I was doing was trying to help someone find a group they could get to know, and someone gets their panties in a wad about it. I understand if they have a roleplay standard in their group, but to be RUDE about it is really uncalled for. One of the other members of the pack did apologize (the member whose name is blurred out in black). So that proves that not all of them were uptight.
The user I helped went up and met the leader of the group. Whatever happened then, I'm not sure. Maybe she was taken into the group, or maybe not.

As for my response to the movie message....

What's the moral of this story? One, don't be a jerk to people. Two, give people a chance. I'm not saying you have to let EVERYONE into your roleplay. If you have standards that's fine, just don't act like a jerk to those who may not be as "skilled" as you are. This is a game for all ages, loosen up some. Don't drive people away with such condescending attitudes. Is it too much to ask?

Game Discussion / Re: Should Staff Be Allowed to Join Roleplay Groups?
« on: November 18, 2018, 02:00:02 am »
In my honest opinion, I do think moderators should be allowed to roleplay in groups. I don't see why they shouldn't, but I can understand why there are people on this game who hesitate to let a moderator join in their roleplay group. Some of the content of their roleplays is questionable, and can possibly break the rules of Feral Heart. I'm not just talking about some swearing here and there, I'm talking about some very inappropriate roleplays.

With the few roleplay groups I see out there, a few of them have advertised they they are "mature" roleplays, with some swearing, violence, and then some explicit mating scenes. Most Feral Heart users are aware of the in game rules, like this number one rule right here....

Quote
Keep Appropriate Language And Behavior
This game is aimed towards a wide user-base of all ages, and therefore you must keep the language and other behavior to an appropriate level that works for everyone. Swearing or using slurs inside of the public chat is NOT allowed or encouraged by anyone. Even if you censor your writings and they still represent an obvious curse/swear, you might get warned/kicked/banned instantly upon notice. This is because we want to keep FeralHeart a friendly place for the majority. Users are also expected to keep any actions representing any sexual behavior such as mating/raping AWAY from public maps. This goes for character bios, group bios, group names, and movie clips, as well. Ignoring this rule can result in a permanent ban.

Seems like a reasonable rule, right? Keep it out of PUBLIC maps and chats. It says nothing about doing those things in more private chats, like group, party, and whisper. Some of these mature roleplays will go to group chat or party chat while out in the public maps. They are more comfortable knowing that their closed chat cannot be monitored by in-game moderators if it's not being broadcasted into local chat, right? They can get away with doing whatever they wish in group, party, or whisper as long as no one within the group complains, right? So the roleplay can carry on with some swearing, gore and violence, and even the sexual content. They can carry on with this knowing that it's possible some of their members are underage children.

Now... if a moderator were to come into the group and see what they're doing....

The roleplay groups players/leader risk getting into some big trouble, and their roleplay has come to a stop. That's probably why people hesitate to let a moderator join in. They don't want the moderator to know they've been breaking Feral Heart rules, getting caught doing some inappropriate roleplays in their group/party chat. They don't want to risk getting a ban.

Are all mature roleplay groups like this? No. Absolutely not. However, we cannot pretend that behavior like this does not happen in game. I've come across players who do nothing but want to do some dirty roleplays with people, and they don't want to be caught so they take it to whisper or party chat.

My point is some may be hesitant to let moderators join because they don't want to be caught breaking game rules. This game has people of all ages playing, adults and children. The number one rule of this game is to keep our behavior and language appropriate, especially for the younger players. There are many who respect that rule, and there are those who would will find loopholes to break such rules. Moderators do the best they can to make sure players are behaving well in the local chats, but there's nothing much they can do about the behavior that goes on in more private chats and maps. It's up to the players to file a report if they think it's necessary.

Long story short, I think they should be able to join in roleplays like anyone else.... but don't be surprised if people don't want you in because they want to hide their bad behavior.
You know what?  I'm thinking of putting together a cave lion roleplay in Kibou Ridge if any of you mods are interested in joining it sometime.
