PlayonMac Trouble
« on: January 04, 2021, 05:45:48 am »
"PlayOnMac has encountered a fatal error, and will now terminate." I've tried re-downloading PlayonMac, & it still says the same thing. I can't play FH bc of this issue. Any solutions or other way I can run FH on a mac?

Is this after you've been able to open the game or from a fresh install of the game?

I've had this error before and I had to go back through the install process and make sure I did it correctly because, usually, clicking straight on the .exe causes this error to pop up.

Yeah, the exe file isn't compatible with playonmac or playonlinux so we have to wait until they make a pol file for that. Until then im looking for ways to make it work, but so far nothing has and there are no youtube tutorials that ik of that will make them work. We just have to wait sadly.
If you fall down farther than you ever have before, you can't always get back up. When you can't get up, you can look up. When you finally look up you can be lifted back on your feet once again.

I have gotten playonmac to work as that's what I use. I can try and walk you through the install process on here and potentially make a tutorial for it later but let me try my best ^^'

1. I suggest working from a fresh install as this will reduce any errors made fiddling with it before or in case its a bad download (which has happened to me a couple of times). I usually keep a folder on my desktop full of presets, screenshots, maps, markings, and items because I tend to have to re-install with new updates and the like for both FH;FN and FH.

2. So once you've downloaded the game you would open POM and hit "Install a program" which would bring up a menu like this:
and you're looking for the link in the bottom left that says "install a non-listed program".

3. That link will start the manual installation process:
You will then click "next" and select the option that reads: Install a program in a new virtual drive. Basically, this will set up your FH folder. Click next and it will ask you to name the virtual drive. Generally, I just put FeralHeart or FH but you can label it whatever you like.

4. Ok, so after naming your virtual drive it brings up this big scary list of things that it asks what you want to do before installation: make sure they are ALL unselected. I'm not a computer genius but this is what I do and FH runs fine for me. Once everything is unchecked-- simply hit next. (I believe by default they are unselected but just in case be sure to double-check nothing is selected.)

5.
It's really important to remember if you're running Mojave or newer, that Apple OS stopped supporting 32-bit programs. Make sure you select 64 Bit windows installation. Once you hit next it will open a little wine program window telling you it's installing the drive. This may take a few minutes.

6.
Once it finishes installing the drive (mine took about 30 seconds) it will pop up asking you to select the program to install. This is where you will go into your downloads and select the FH
 set-up.

7. Click next. Now, Apple likes to make things sounds scary and there will probably be a pop-up that says "Move to trash" because the developer cannot be verified. All I did was hit cancel and it still popped up with the next part of the install. In case it does not, be sure to go into your privacy settings and hit "allow anyways" from the general security and privacy settings tab.

8.
Just hit next here, you can move it but I do not suggest it as its automatically going to go into the virtual drive you created in your POM folder. It then asks "light" or "full" I use full but if you're running an older mac or older OS you might want to use Light that's all based on your knowledge of how your computer runs.

9.
Once you click through it will bring up this which is just a confirmation page. hit install on the bottom and it should be good to go! It'll show a loading bar and then playonmac will let you know the install is complete!

10.
So POM is weird and doesn't really automatically create a short-cut and unless you want to go through your mac library everytime to open your game I suggest adding the "FeralHeart.exe" as your shortcut. It'll ask you to make another one after this and you can hit "I don't want to make another shortcut" at that point.

11. Now after all of this we still haven't installed the patch. But it's really easy I promise.
Once you've selected your program you're going to see this menu pop up on the side. As you can see mine is simply named "FeralHeart". You're going to want to hit the "open the directory" button (there is a manual way to go through finder to find your FH folder but its long and tedious and this will save a lot of time).

12.
This is your standard FH folder. You can see the exports, presets, media, etc. What is important to note is the "FeralHeart.exe" that is what we are going to be replacing. Once you download the patch executable you will simply drag it into this folder and hit Replace.

I hope this helped! If there are any more issues I can try and troubleshoot it but PlayOnMac and FH can be finicky sometimes.

Also it's important to note that sometime over the summer PlayOnMac did an update and that should work with Mojave and newer OS. Make sure you're downloading the newest version of POM or the software won't open at all.

okay, so the problem is playonmac doesnt open for me at all. I get this error message

PlayOnMac has encountered a fatal error, and will now terminate. An uncaught exception was raised during execution of the main script. This may mean that an unexpected error has occurred, or that you do not have all of the dependencies for this application.

this is my second time uninstalling and re-downloading. could you maybe send me the download link you used? maybe mine is wrong?

https://www.playonmac.com/en This is the link I used to download mine. Its PlayonMac v. 4.4 which was updated specifically for Catalina.

Do you mind me asking what your OS is? If you hit "about this mac" it should tell you. I have Catalina (which I said Mojave before but I meant Catalina is the one that stopped supporting 32-bit programs). If that still doesn't work I can do some digging around for you on what exactly the issue might be-- because I have gotten that error before.

It might also be your security settings on your Mac. I have PlayonMac checked for Accessibility under the privacy tab which a lot of programs (such as photoshop, gimp, etc) use to run smoother.

Ah-- so if you've rei-nstalled playonmac 4.4 it won't work with Sierra I believe-- as that was released in 2017. I'm not sure if you plan on updating your OS but that would probably be the easiest method, otherwise, I'd have to do some research into figuring out if you can download an older version of playonmac or use a different application.
