Introduction / Been inactive: here's why
« on: September 20, 2019, 07:50:07 am »
Oh gosh, it feels like I have become some sort of myth due to my growing inactivity online. But there's a perfectly good reason for my absence.

I have began heavily working and promoting my Pigeon rescue and rehabilitation rescue work, known as Pudge's Flock, in my town. I have gotten quite a positive influx of reactions and even featured in a few events, the local newspaper and will be on the radio sometime soon. The publicity has helped me rehabilitate over 150 birds successfully this year (by myself alone).

I am always looking for help however. For a number of things.

1. I am creating an extensive rehabilitation guide for birds of UK to be distributed to veterinary surgeries and rescue centers alike. So I am looking for individuals whom could help me with content such as illustrations and chapters. Anyone knowledgeable can be added to our Facebook page.

2. Promotion and recognition helps me gain funds to upkeep my rescues and provide necessary treatment and care to each bird specifically. So the more people know, the better my financial situation becomes, as more people = more donations. Our progress can be e viewed on our page: www.facebook.com/pudgesflock

3. I have a gofundme which is aimed at raising funds to build a sanctuary for birds in my town. It'd be the first one locally and I am chasing this dream of mine till my legs give way. So if you know anyone interested in helping raise funds please direct them to: https://www.gofundme.com/f/Helping-reclaim-lost-wings
I am also looking for a logo to be made? I have a few examples but I am looking for watercolour/derpy png style. Willing to pay!
_____
I also volunteer (still) for a Social Action Group where I do photography and poetry to raise awareness about mental health in my local county. I haven't been online for months and I feel like before I go off and begin being super active I'd share some insight into my work and lifestyle.
Thank you for reading. I thought I'd merge both updates and requests / info into one giant post so I do apologize if this isn't allowed. Of course, please read my reviews before deciding to donate any money and please be responsible with the amounts donated - don't go too wild, aka don't risk bankruptcy.

Lovely meeting all the new members and hello, long time no see to all you peeps that know me :)

Have A great fantastic day, and see you all around!

The Community Banner

Description
Every participant's personal OC art-piece (1 per person) all merged into one giant banner (with an optional blank PNG background or a digitally drawn FH map of the community's choice). This post triggered me to come up with this event which staff could potentially host - https://feral-heart.com/smf/index.php?topic=65257.0

Why I think it could work?
It'd be an appealing event for many of our creative and artistic souls out there who would love to show their dedication and appreciation for the game/community; no matter what the art level each participant has managed to master, whether beginner to professional...the more variety the better - this also includes style. The more art styles included the more diversity would be shown through the end piece.

How it'd work?
You'd be presented with a simple form and some requirements you'd need to meet for your entry to be accepted. For example the requirements could be let's say...

1. Must be PNG
2. Size must be no bigger than 200px x 200px
3. 1 OC entry per person

And the simple form could be:

Username:
OC art (link or physical):
Preferred FH map as background:

The end result?
The end result would be a huge canvas (which started out blank) containing all the participant OC's to resemble this giant art piece of a 'family'. Of course each png OC drawing would need a rough idea of the size requirements so that each drawing is visible and does not override other drawings too much.  I think it'd also be very interesting to see all the various art styles merged into one final piece - which could be used as a banner or some sort of advertisement for the community. I'm pretty sure the members would love to participate in something of this sort (I certainly would).

Duration of the event
Pfff, I'm dumb and don't really know how long this event could be so I'd say keep it open until the canvas is filled?

Number of users required
It really depends on the size of the canvas and the required size of the members OC's. But I'd say to aim the canvas to hold around 100 members, if it were to take place.

So...what do you guys think?

Game Suggestions & Ideas / Re: How to Draw More People to this Game
« on: November 23, 2018, 05:00:48 pm »
I appreciate your input Nowai. The way I see it, there seem to be a lot of "old" members already. Which is why I would like to focus my efforts on bringing in new members.

Another point I would like to make, is that some of the old members might get busy with their own busy lives or get tired of playing etc. And without new members, the total number of members will decline over time. A healthy game should have a "flow" of new and old members.

p.s. What "successful-ish" game were you a part of Nowai?

Oh yes, that is very true. Without a constant flow of new members replacing those who left, the forum activity will continue to decline. But in order to bring in new members, we kinda need old members to shed light on the good times and the happy memories. I don't know why but new members tend to trust the older ones because - they have experienced the community environment and have better knowledge of all the 'darker' corners.

Also, I don't feel comfortable with sharing that information publicly due to a dispute which occurred nearing the end of June 2018 causing the whole team to suffer. I'll message you the name and link if you are interested however, for all I know, you might enjoy playing it because mmmm the community is lovely! Or you might have already tried it out, either way I'm now sending a PM your way (:

Game Suggestions & Ideas / Re: How to Draw More People to this Game

Oh...actually. Being a former staff of a 'successful-ish' game, we focused more on "keeping regular visitors coming back" rather than focusing solely on bringing new faces into the community. The logical explanation of why these two approaches vary are as follows:

Regular visitors already have built an 'image' of the game, community and its staff. It can be a negative one but usually this is not the case. The pressure usually lies on the staff members to act as role-models (though I'm pretty sure everyone knows this); after all, people come for the game but stay for the community. If members have a positive view of staff, they will begin to feel safe and valued which in turn will help them build a a positive opinion of how things are run (on top of game quality and interaction, though that's not so important if you think about it), then they will keep returning and with a bit of luck they will start voicing the positivity that lies within the community.

On top of staff being friendly, understanding and non-judgemental (and flexible when it comes to punishment, 'cause people can and do change so second chances are a good way to rebuild what was lost); there are also other key factors in helping a community grow and prosper.
______________________________
1. Holding regular events (in-game and forum)
I think this is one of the more important ones. It's a way of getting a large portion of the community to engage together with staff - after all we're here because we share an interest (a.k.a the game) so it's great when members can start enjoying an event meant to bring people closer together - MOTS is actually a great example of that.

2. Building a true image of staff
'Staff are still people, just with responsibilities of maintaining a friendly environment etc.' - When members see staff joking around, participating in member-run events, and acting like 'any well-behaved member would'  the members begin to feel closer, more connected. As stated before, staff are the prime representation of any community. And their approach impacts more than meets the eye.

3. Encouraging creativity
As with any community, there are bound to be very talented and creative users. Encouraging them to share their art, or perhaps them creating small 'OC gifts/drawings' can actually affect the member in many ways. One being that they begin to feel like their talents are not dismissed and/or they begin to discover new ones (which is great, and they'll always refer to the person or community that had helped them discover their newly found passion). Gifts of OC's (more so art of 'friendship groups' and such) can build a stronger bond between already existing members. I mean, come on - if you are having a wild time with your friends in a community and then are gifted an art containing your friends, or particular individuals that have made a huge impact on you (positively), you'd be floored wouldn't you. The whole concept of group drawings are too adorable aaaa! - I swear I've seen either a staffer or member with a group drawing and I felt my heart melt because it showed such 'togetherness'.
______________________________

Coming back to the more-regularly applied approach of focusing just on bringing new members into the community. If you just focus on raising the amount of users in a community, things will eventually crash and burn. You see, a community exists and is kept stable by old and new members alike; old members share amazing/not so amazing memories and stories and can impact the views of a new member, who in turn can start running around spreading positive or negative views which were acquired from regulars. Lacking old members would actually impact a community big time as new members would feel a little lost or confused not having a 'full picture' of a community and how it is run.

Anyway, I think I'll stop babbling because I intended on just giving a few points here and there and ended up expanding on each a little too much. So, I'll actually leave it up to you guys to refer back to this particular comment of mine or apply those points to your own community - after all it's worth giving a shot in my opinion. Have fun and feel free to expand or discuss the content of this post (or feel free to skim over it/ignore it i don't mind).

Have a nice day,
Wai wai.

I have procrastinated with responding to every one individually, but here goes lads and ladettes! Once again thank you for the warm welcomes and sorry for taking so long to get back to y'all!

Yooo, Notorious.
Haha, what can I say, I tried to make it interesting. It's nice to meet you too! Of course, I do have a tendency to over-share but I think I kind of started handling that habit a bit better. Yeah, I'm taking another load of antibiotics which should finish it off. Hope to see you around!

Hello, Panzram!
Thank you <3 I do hope that it will be a swift recovery, though there's always that thought of me missing a dose of antibiotics (Oh the joys of memory loss) and the infection returning worse than before, but that's the worst case scenario. I am already settling well in this community and I've felt really welcome. If I do require assistance I shall definitely give you a shout, or perhaps I'll nudge a message your way when wanting to chat. Thanks!

Hiya, PrettyReckless!
I would like to think I am an easy-going person, there's not much that can actually set me off-edge these days, I'm more accepting of differences, but that's not to say I don't get frustrated from time to time. Thank you for the warm welcome and recovery wishes - means a lot! see you around (:

Howdy, LonesomeRider!
Oh yes, it's great to see new members post introductions! Thank you, I love a bit of lighthearted banter. I am sure I will experience many a nice moment within this community. I guess my activities are very diverse - which is why they appeal to me. I do hope so too, it has lasted quite some time now. I'll be sure to nudge a message your way if I feel like chatting or require assistance! And yes, that is very true, health is certainly a priority - though interacting within online communities (in my case) quickens recovery. See you around!

Ah hello, Likuu!
Thank you for the warm welcome! Why thank you, I have a small backstory for my username - which I hope to include in the Member Journals & Biography board sometime soon. I shall definitely stick around; here's to better days :D

Hiya, Morqque!
Fantastic, just what I need haha!
Thank you (:

Hi Lotorshot!
Thank you for the warm welcome, see you around (:

OMG AZURA!!! Long time no see, how are you doing? Thank you for the warm welcome (glad to know you remember my lil nickname :D)

Hello, Flurr!
Thank you for the warm welcome and the compliment - It means a lot (: I'm sure I'll have many a great memory to take from here!
