Leaving / Goodbye Everyone!
« on: September 13, 2014, 04:18:43 am »
First of all, I technically left feralheart in late August, I just finally remembered to make a goodbye thread.
Second, I know none of you know who I am. I've been around for years, I literally couldn't go a day without FH, but I never really participated in the community much at all. I was always in private maps.
I usually discussed things in the game discussion section, and that was about it!
Anyways, why am I leaving?

For pretty much the same reasons as everyone else.

1) The real world calls.
2) I really needed to get away from my addiction.
3) I ended my RP, which was the last tie I had to FH. Afterwards there was nothing left for me to take interest in.

I didn't really do anything for FH at all, I stayed hidden in my private maps, and I caused trouble a few times. In the end, this is where I end up. I already uninstalled FH. I thought it was going to be really hard to do, but I did it in a split second and uncaringly so as I rushed to create more space on my old computer. I'm really, honestly, done here.
I think I might upload a download of the last map I made for my RP to the downloads section. I'm really proud of it and I'd like others to see what I did, as a kind of goodbye. It took years to hone my map-making skills!

Anyways, FH was freaking awesome, it was a blast, and now I'm off! Thanks for existing FH, keep making people happy.

Game Discussion / I Just Need to Talk
« on: August 05, 2014, 05:46:31 am »
Long story short, I started this RP on New Year's Eve of, 2012-2013, and it just ended today August 5 of 2014. I really put my best effort into it, but all things come to an end. I couldn't lead it anymore, and no one else was able to do it either, so there was no choice.

But I just feel guilty about it, I mean, I started a RP and it was my responsibility, and yet it ended so abruptly. After so long, it's just gone. One of the members told me that the RP still had a lot of potential, but is that really true? I could tell we were all getting a bit bored...So, when do you know when to end something like that? Is there ever really supposed to be an end? When do you know when it's time? I wish I knew these things.

I don't know how many of you can sympathize with this. It's not like everyone has run a RP. I was really dedicated, and so were the members. We RPed a lot. We had a lot of fun. But I don't know if anyone ever knows when it's time to truly end something, it's like you just want to keep it going and going, no matter what it takes, even if the RP gets dragged into the ground. You just don't know when to stop.

In this case I guess I was lucky. We were all kind of done with it. I could tell we were all less enthusiastic when we RPed. My mom told me to knock it off, she doesn't want me in my room all night anymore. No one else seemed capable of leading the RP. The only answer was obvious.

Yet I feel guilty. I feel sad. I feel an emptiness.

We had fun. We made memories. We made friends.

So I guess this is the end. Good bye, my RP. Even though I'm still not sure that it was the right decision to end it so abruptly, I know that it wasn't for nothing. All of our efforts were not in vain.

All fun things must come to an end.

Game Discussion / Use Your Head!
« on: July 23, 2014, 02:28:25 pm »
This is a bit of a rant.

I can't stand two words being spoken when I'm role playing on FH and they are "I'm bored."
I just. I can't handle it. Why do these people say there are bored? It always seems to be that they can't RP at all unless they are in direct contact with someone else. Unless there is that constant interaction between players, they are bored. Even if there is the most interesting plot in the world, they just sit there, and they are bored. They don't go searching for someone to RP with. They do not figure something out to do on their own. They sit there in a corner of the map, expectantly waiting for someone to approach them on their own will and eagerly RP with them. That usually doesn't happen, and the oh-so-bored role player will spam the chat with those two words I can't stand..."I'm bored I'm bored I'm bored! Give me attention! I can't think for myself at all I don't know how to type at all unless I have someone to RP with! Entertain me! It's all your responsibility!"
They cannot get the ball rolling on their own. Sometimes these bored players even go to annoying extremes by putting their characters on the verge of death so that someone absolutely just has to go and find them, even if the said dying character is on the opposite end of the map. If you know their character is dying OOC, you'll just HAVE to have your character get the sudden urge to take a stroll across that map and by chance happen upon this bored role player who is in the process of pretending to kill their character and...*chucks the bored role player out the window* D:<
Why can't these people role play on their own?! Why do they just sit there? Use your head! Think of something! There are plenty of things to do, especially if there's a great plot! I'd understand if you were bored if you hadn't interacted with anyone the entire RP session, but right off the bat these people helplessly stand there like trees and rocks, waiting for someone to stroll on past them and perhaps glance their way. Yes, I said 'perhaps' because it is awfully hard to RP with a tree or rock. You'd have to initiate the entire interaction. What if your character hates people, or is shy? You end up guiltily changing your character's personality so that you can please the horribly bored role player for even a few posts.
Woe is the life of a role player, it is oh so hard to have your character do something ON THEIR OWN, an unimaginable feet for any normal person. Yes, it is a cruel world out there. Having people expect you to RP on your own after you decide to join their RP is just...the pressure is too much. Everyone should already know it isn't possible to make a post unless there is someone there to respond to it. This all just defies logic...oh woe is the life of a role player!
I know I know. Life isn't fair at all. Being bored isn't fun at all. You can't post at all if you don't have anyone to RP with at all. Using your imagination is not at all possible, it expends too many of your precious resources and you don't want to use it at all. Oh, isn't role play fun?

That's basically the end of the rant. Sorry if I offended anyone, I just get very worked up when people refuse to RP on their own for a bit and to start interactions on their own. I know there are circumstances out there that actually leave people bored. I'm just talking about the circumstances where they should not be bored. And there's the rant!

Game Discussion / A Few of Tide's Thoughts
« on: June 30, 2014, 05:32:29 am »
Alright, so let me first tell you all a little about me. I am the leader of a RP that has been active for a little over a year. With this information, I can go on explaining. My RP is private. That means I am in a map I have made myself whenever I log on. That means I only interact with the people in my group. Sometimes I feel like a FH shut in. If you're in a map all the time, are you really part of the community? Every once in a while I'll check on what's going on, but other than that I am completely absorbed in my RP.  I feel that I'm not really a part of FH unless I go into the public maps and actually talk to people. What do you guys think about this?

Here's the next bit of my discussion. Making plots, after a while, is so incredibly taxing. My brain is fried. It is hard to be creative! Now, my RP is unrealistic, okay, so you think it'd be easy...but after making so many plots it just gets exhausting and I can almost feel the creativity being drained from my brain. When I ask my fellow staff members in my RP to help me think of ideas, it goes something like this:

Me: So, what do you think we should do about this? We need a plot that has something to do with this horrible disease, any ideas of where we should go with this?

Mod 1: Uhh, have everyone go out and try and figure out how to stop it?

Me: Well, that doesn't seem very interesting and blah blah blah, it wouldn't work.

Mod 1: idk

Mod 2: beats me

Me: Well I'll brain storm and we'll talk about it later then. *que hours of laying on my bed, trying to think about what the heck I should do next*

Like that. Pleasant right? When you have an unrealistic RP, the members get used to fun and exiting things, like killing bad guys with magic. So what you have to do is think of even more fun and exciting things, which..well, like I said, gets taxing. I'll be sitting around for weeks, thinking and thinking until I get a bit of inspiration and then I finally squeeze out another plot. But it's hard. Does anyone else struggle like this?

And my last but more trivial topic...The members. Oh the members. You can't have a role play without one, and yet they are the most exhausting aspect of it. You have to please everyone. Make sure everyone gets along. And most importantly, keep everyone in line without making them hate you. It's like juggling ten balls on your head. One member will always have an unfavorable side. And you know what you gotta do, you gotta deal with it, make sure not to get them angry, be mature and not argue with them, and you also have to make sure no one else ends up hating them. A private RP is a very tedious and exhausting thing, and yet the fun of role playing assures that I and everyone else keep coming back.
But then there's that other thing called getting more members. Let me tell you about this one. This is how it goes.

You get a new member.

They join the RP, and hang around for 1 hour before claiming that they have to either just go, or head over to another RP.

You come online the next day, and they are in another RP.

They eventually come on, hang around, and apologize as they let you know they have another RP to attend to after a few hours.

The next day they don't even come on, and you rarely see them online, and when they are, they're busy at that other RP.

Look, I understand if you have another more important RP to keep up with, but when you make the choice to join a RP, you have to make sure you stick with your decision and remain active. This scenario just happens way too many times. It happens even more times than the traditional 'the person only sticks around for one day and never comes online again' scenario, for me at least.
Before I continue to ramble on about my struggles, I'll end it here. If you can sympathize with any of this, feel free to reply below.

Game Help / Silly Eye Masks
« on: November 29, 2013, 09:26:25 pm »
Alrighty, so I've been having this annoying problem with my eye masks for only one type of eye on both the feline and canine models. Let me show you what's in the game and what's in my files.

What my eye masks look like in the CORRECT Feral Heart folder (I made sure it was the right one):

What my eye masks look like for 'Normal' on both models:

Totally doesn't match right?
Yes, I did try putting the correct eye mask in the Textures file, about three times actually. Every time the eye mask in game stayed the same.
Yes, the eye mask that appears on both the canine and feline model is an eye mask I have downloaded and used on presets so it didn't come out of no where.
I clicked on all of the other eye masks in game and they were all normal expect for the 'Normal' eye mask, ironic isn't it?
The eye mask found for the 'Normal' eye mask in game is not directly in my textures folder, it is in a folder within the Textures folder and it has never caused problems before.
I don't know if this has to do with something in the coding or what. I don't remember what I did, but I did something to mess things up and I'd be really really grateful if I didn't have to uninstall and install FH just to fix this problem. Super grateful.
If you have any more questions on what I did, just reply below. Thanks for lending me a paw.

Game Discussion / Will They Ever Learn- Running a RP is Not Easy!
« on: August 15, 2013, 01:23:42 am »
This is one of the top things I can't stand. And that is those naive people who start role plays and fail right off the bat. They put so much effort into their RP, their website, their map, and then they start advertising and don't get any members. And when they do no one shows up the next day. And you know what? The person who owns the RP looses hope and ditches all their hard work and the RP itself. It may seem fun and exciting at first but let me tell you, it is not. Some people don't understand how much effort it really takes and how much time and work goes into running a RP. They don't understand everything that needs to be understood. Countless people join their RPs that soon disappear the next day. Countless hours of creativity and work are wasted. When will everyone realize how to make a successful RP? Why do people get the urge to make RPs after RPing for a while and then rush into it without thinking? I can't stand it. I just want to slap some sense into them. It isn't that easy. It takes time. It is hard. Even when you are RPing you still don't have it easy. You need to plan ahead and make sure everything is prepared. I can only prey that these RP starters are enlightened!

Presets & Markings / Silvertide's Presets (Updated 8/24/13)
« on: April 24, 2013, 05:46:12 am »
Hello all, this is where any presets I decide to make will go. I admit, I'm not that skilled in preseting, if that's a word, but I do enjoy making my characters look exactly as I want them. I am not good with codes at all so my presets are pretty simple. If you have any critique about my presets, please reply. ^-^

Angaline

This is my preset for a character in my role play, The Siar Journey. In that role play, there are hybrids, so thus, she is a border collie raccoon hybrid, hence the striped tail and masked face. I am really quite proud with her. You can't really tell from the screenie, but her eyes are rainbow colored, as well as her paw pads, tail tip, tongue, and ear tips. This is because, well, it has to do with my role play so that's pretty much the overall reason for the rainbowness. I did not make the fur texture or eye mask.

Shioak (Request)

This is a request made by a friend of mine. It will be a character in my RP, The Siar Journey. This little guy is apparently a tabby cat and red panda hybrid. The fur texture and eye mask are not made by me. (sorry the bottom picture is a bit blurry) Also, I made a mistake on this preset. The 'S' on the shoulder is backwards. This was my first time making letters on a preset so I didn't know it would end up like that. By the time I realized it, it was too late. My friend was kind enough to let me off the hook.

Carami

This character is my fursona. It took about six hours or more to make this preset, the markings were really bothersome. I'm happy with how it turned out though I think the front paw bottoms should be the same color as the markings, I might fix that.
