I agree that they are underrated. In the documentaries, they are just living their lives, which often includes being jerks to the other animals in the food chain - but that is how they are. Since they have the stereotype of being jerks (lions are typically seen as a mighty and "good" species and the hyenas are generally their main rivals in the animal kingdom) a lot of people will follow that. Disney even did that. It is sad though.

Merged your new topic “It’s Not Fair” to your original topic on the same subject “Spotted hyenas and their cousins are super underrated”. The latest topic is discussing the same subject and adds further feedback to it so to keep things organized and points from getting lost try to keep it on this one thread ^^
No problem. At least more people can see it all in one big post!

I HATE it when people call hyenas dogs!, im a hyena expert and they have their own familly (hyaenidae) and are not in canidae, they indeed are also in the suborder feliformia which does not include dog-like animals, wikipedia literally mentions it too, hyenas are not ''evil'' either, people just think that because of the lion king, and that movie isnt even supposed to be realistic, hyenas are being ''jerks'' because that is their way of survival but humans like those people dont understand because we generally see it as mean and evil, but its just nature, they should get their info from real stuff instead of movies that aint even realistic, i think sabertooths are quite underrated too

Same thing happens with vultures too! Vultures and hyenas are very important to the ecosystem.

I think it is silly to think hyenas are the only ''jerks'' in nature. Lions also steal food when they think they have an opportunity and all animals are needed to have our ecosystem in balance.

Yeah while people think male lions are great and kings, they oftenly steal food from lionesses and hyenas, their dominance lets them drive away anything to steal the prey
