Hey floofies<3
Another topic of discussion I came across while derping around in game, but I was curious to see how ya'll write your bios for your characters. Me personally, I like to lay all genetic and basic profile information about the character, and maybe fill out some small history/backstory, but leave the personality open and generic as I really love character development.
So I was curious, how do YOU write your bios? Do you go in depth, past the FH box's limit and onto a RP site? Or would you rather leave room for character development through RP? Or perhaps you write just enough, but not too much?? I'd love to hear all your methods! c:
-
When I write a character's bio, I don't go too in depth. I tend to keep it fairly simple, that way I leave the personality open for character development, like what you said. I might fill out a tiny backstory, but most of the information is very generic and easy.
Interesting topic. ^^
-
Basically covered it for me, Lol.
Depending on my characters, I can go between short and not much info to really descriptive and have 'em exposed like an open book. I even change a few things here and there through roleplays because nothing isn't always set in stone.
Interesting topic though ^^
-
When I write a character bio I just like to add in the basic info. I usually just separate it by Basic Info (name, age, species, etc.), Personality, Backstory (if I'm not lazy), Relationships, and then extra info like preset links and such if needed. I usually don't go to into detail, I just write their basic personality traits. I do like character development, so I just try to update my bios every once in awhile if they've lost or changed some traits. I don't pay too much attention to character bios in-game though, I prefer writing about them on the forum or something instead where I can make it all pretty n' stuff.
Nice topic idea, by the way! ^^
-
When I write my bios I put the information that is important first, like personality, flaws and pros..etc. and I will leave the rest for when im roleplaying. I try not putting a whole big paragraph about my character because it takes up a lot of space.
-
I like to put general information such as Name, Age, Relationships and all that first, then kinda write a short little part telling a bit about their background and how they got to where they are now. ON FH itself, due to the bio limit, I usually write the basics, but get me on a website with no limit? I end up usually writing a 7,000 page book. xD
-
(On phone so no color)
On the in-game bios, my thing usually goes like this:
Title
Names/nicknames
Gender
Age
Species
Group
Rank
Appearance
Personality
Voice
Fears
Exttra info (RP style, markings and items, preset)
Themes
When it's on a forum, I do all that, backstory, picture references, fun facts, etc. *also sorry this was long, no phone means no special things. Would've put it in a spoiler, but, im on my phone, like I said*

I don't really have a method for writing bios.
I like all the ways you could write them.
Henrietta's bio tells a story. It's really long and cluttered, but I kind of like the way it's written, even though it's old.
In her bio it starts out with her backstory, then it goes on to her personality, then to her relationships.
Yasamin's bio is more pretty, but short and only has the facts you really need to know, and doesn't tell her backstory.
On site bios I usually decorate them with text, and color them, post pictures and all that. I usually write their backstory long and detailed.
-
Well, I don't really have a plan when I start. Generally, I like to include trivial things like their weight and height which only come in handy in battle.
-
I don't really use any template. I usually just list the name, age, sex, species, appearance, personality, and if it's for an rp, allegiances and such.
-
When I make a character Bio, normally I try to keep it Neat and organized. I normally use a template like this
(c)Username Here

Pretty simple like you said. I do sometimes lay a small personality, but always leave room for development! Gotta have character development. The small personality is more a guide for me. Like if x character is snarky and sassy, I need to act like that, until of course, character development makes the character tone it down, but everyone has a type that stands out from the rest.
I usually lay my bio like this.
Name:
Gender:
Age:
Species: (Unless I'm doing a Warriors RP.)
Groups: (Usually I put the specific type i.e pride, pack, clan)
Crush:
Mate:
Children: (I usually put the type of baby here depending on species i.e. cubs, pups, kits)
Family: (Usually just the immediate family unless someone else is specifically playing as another member of my family i.e cousin or nephew.)
Personality: (Just the main parts. Always room for development)
Backstory: (Usually the reason why x character is there, and why x character acts the way they do. The rest if need be, is usually on the RP site if there is one.)

for me, the formatting really depends on the mood or what I'm feeling. I've done the template-like list way, but I've also put spins on it being, say, an interview, which an IC explanation and an OOC answer following. (I did that for my new character, Kichirou)
Imo, do as you want to! as long as it doesn't break the rules, it's good.
-
A lot of what has been commented above basically sums up how I do my bios minus a few details here and there. I keep it simple and hardly ever write in paragraph form in the bio section. I did once and that was only on a recruiting character.
My bios do have somewhat of a format. Reccewolf's bio format is fairly close to mine. I don't have scent though, usually not sexuality either, and depending on the character, I use a slight change in word choice.
As for longer bios on websites, I go all out. From backstories to others the character has met in roleplay.
-
Name:
Nickname:
Gender:
Breed/species:
Scent:
Rank+group:
Personality*:
Backstory*:
That is how I usually go about it in-game, of course being mindful of the bio limit.
P* For personality I usually do a sentence about how the character acts in general, a sentence about how they act towards stranger and a sentence about how they react to familiar faces. I leave most of it out in the open for people to discover any unspoken traits about the character, for development and discovery!
B* I don't do in-depth backstories because again: bio limit. But what I do is I make a summary of the most recent even that has affected the character, and let anything left out to be discovered by others that want to know about that character's lifestyle.
-
Really, it just ranges from an actual, serious bio with quotes, important info about the character, stats, etc. to just 'hi' or 'no' or just random words. Nothing inbetween. I have no idea what happened there either.
-
I write the bio in a style that suits the character, provided I have the motivation to do so.
E.I: Gui's bio is robot-styled... And I have yet to style the bios of the other characters I have.
-
I've actually done these before. Sometimes i write a story that's relevant. Sometimes i list data. Or list a few chromosomes and leave it at that, but people would ask me what that meant. One time someone told me that a bio made up of chromosomes made their biology degree a plaything of children. I'm still not sure if that was a good thing or not.

When I make biographies for my characters, I like to keep things nice and simple so people can understand. I just put down some basic information, and a summary about the character. My character biographies usually look something like this...
Name: --
Age: --
Gender: --
Species: --
Group: --
Rank: --
Family information, like a mate, children, etc.
Backstory: --
Themesong(s): -- (I do this with some characters)
Pretty simple and to the point, right?

I don't mind some biographies that go into more detail, but sometimes I wonder about some bio trends I've seen. This one trend I see is kind of my pet peeve, and I just don't understand why people feel the need to put some of this information in their character biographies. Consider the following...
https://imgur.com/a/EKNPA
I dare ask... what's the point of this? Attention? Some kind of bragging right? With personal information like that they may as well let everyone know MORE personal stuff about their character... like how many times they pooped, or how many times they've eaten a meal, or how many times they got sick, picked their nose, fell off the side of a mountain, failed a hunt, how many birds they ate, how many hairballs they coughed up, how many times they howled at the moon, got eaten by a lion, got caught in a bear trap, or the last Justin Beiber song they listened to. The point I'm trying to make here is it isn't necessary or really needed!
Sorry to go off into a little spat there, but it's an thought and opinion I had when it came to these character biographies.

Tbh i try to do, most of the time, a list of stuff necessary to rp like personality traits, rank, age, gender, health, recent wounds, and such, and i often put an OOC date for the age, like, for example "3 months as of month/day/year", so that i can keep clear track of aging, for i am addicted to it xP
sometimes i'll include a voice, a theme-song and maybe an accent. Like, a black tall wolf dude with gordon ramsay's voice... But plot twist
he's aussie instead. And his theme song is Raw Power from Guns n' Roses.
-
I like to keep it simple
Basics of what they look like, normal behavior, couple of trinkets here and there.
I used to do them in a completely formatted way, but nowadays I just... Don't bother or wing it.
-
I keep it brief. Five sections. Name at the top, explanation of name if it's a warrior cat. First section is basics (age, gender, allegiance, that deal). Family and friends come next. Then romance. Likes, dislikes. Finally, extras, like theme songs and trivia, which usually stays short.
That's about it for bios with me. It works pretty well.
-
normally i’ll just throw in basic info and personality traits in a small paragraph format and leave it at that. If i’m feeling a little extra i’ll decorate it a little with text, but for the most part i leave them pretty unstructured and vague. for me, i let character development do a lot, so my characters are really heavily shaped by the pack and environment they’re in. For one of my characters i originally envisioned her to be very intelligent but she ended up brutish and buff and wanted to fight everything. XD
-
Hmm. I think my bios usually go something like:
Name
Gender
Age
Scent
Voice
Personality
Relationship status
Family relations
Group affiliations
Skills
I usually try to keep it fairly light, so that people can figure out stuff by role-playing with me, but that's usually how they look!
-
I just write a random bios for characters that I'm not really connect to but for characters I'm connect to I wrote full bios
like this for chars i'm connect to
Name
Gender
Age
Scent
species
mate,lover or crush
any slibings
any childern
theme song
and last thier info
-
I prefer to keep my bios short and simple:

-
Simple, I don't.
I get too lazy and never write one or I just forget about it.
-
Actually, all I do is write "Too lazy to write a bio lol" and leave it at that
But sometimes if I have a cool character I go in-depth and all the way to write an interesing bio.
