I'm just wondering if this is acceptable I have a group name I want to use and found it already exists but does that mean I can't use it in any other way such as with symbols or a dot at the end or? Just don't want to make it and it be active and get screamed at for mine being a copy so is it ok to use the same group names? And what about tags in case we end up using similar ones?

I believe it would be best to get in contact with the owner of the other group and ask their permission first before doing anything. ^^ Depending on their answer, go from there.

It highly depends on what group name you would like to base yours off of. If the group is still active or still existing, I definitely don't recommend creating a... "duplicate" (?) of the original group.
For Example,
The Reign of Rancorous
Reign of Rancorous
Although, as Esa mentioned, definitely try your best to reach out to the owner of the other group to check out if they'd allow you to use a similar / same name. If they don't respond / do not allow you to use their group name, I'll be free to help you think of new group names. :) xx
