The title says it all~
What kind of music do you listen to while roleplaying, and why? c:
Personally, having been roleplaying for a few years, I've seen people who do their best in total silence, while others have to have some kind of music to suit their character, or the situation at hand/paw.
I usually have an arsenal of instrumental music, which includes:
- Softer stuff like Brian Brasher's work.
- Movie soundtracks like those from "How To Train Your Dragon" and "Pirates of the Caribbean; At World's End"
- Classical music, like Mozart or Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" and "The Nightingale" (only if I'm in a weird mood), or the music we play in my symphony, which can be any manner of orchestral arrangements.
- I'll also listen to some music with vocals, although it tends to distract me unless it's gentler stuff. Coldplay and Switchfoot are among these.
I guess the reason behind this is that music often brings a certain image to my mind, which helps me focus in and create an atmosphere around my character, and help me bring that out in my writing/posts. I find it a source of inspiration at times.
SO, what about you? :3
-
Well, I like rock/dubstep so that's what I usually listen to. c:
My favorites to listen to is Celldweller and Breaking Benjamin.

xD Wow, that's interesting stuff. Now, do your characters reflect the intensity of your music, or do you have it just to have some background sound? c:
(Love BB, by the way. -air paw-)

That is exactly what I listen to, along with all the Assassian's Creed Soundtracks. I love music, so I am constantly listening to it, and with soundtrack's I get beautiful, long pieces of music that dont interfere with my thinking. And with these soundtracks I get an intense, exotic type of atmosphere I guess you could call it that really go well with my main rp character. So it inspires me along with giving me a nice background music to listen to

Awesome stuff, there. :D I can't say I've listened to Assassin's Creed music as of yet, but I guess I'll have to look that up.
I feel ya, though, I like long pieces that don't interrupt your thinking, because if it's particularly rowdy music, my thoughts will kind of get jarred around with it.
Love HTTYD, though. "Forbidden Friendship," "Test Drive," and "New Tail" are my favorite tracks on there. <3

Metal, rock, video game music, movie soundtracks, anime osts, calmer songs, wordless songs... and sometimes nothing at all. C:

Whut. o-o That sounds VERY interesting, but what genre is that? xD -looks it up- And neh, music is music, everybody has their own thing. No problems seen here. c;
-
I usually listen to UnderOath or some other music that i may have on my computer, but its always interrupted by my mom having me or my brother do chores, so there's background sound every time that i do, but its been a while since iv'e been on so my roleplay habits have become dormant.
-
I actually listen to soundtracks from HTTYD a lot and I try to find music that reflects the character or mood of the rp in some way.

Ive been kinda experimental lately I guess, usually I listen rock n' roll.

KIYOI<3 (Iloveyou,lady~)
And hrmm, Underoath~ I haven't listened to them in a while, but I love their sound. "Too Bright To See, Too Loud To Hear" <---- Ohyus. <3

Sweet! Another HTTYD fan~ -air paw- But yes, I agree. I even find myself designating certain types of music, or even artists, to certain characters of mine. So, finding music that reflects each character is a big part of that. I do that same thing. Very cool. ^.^

Har, good stuff. ^.^

I listen to "Tell Me Something I Don't know" and "Apologize" :)

Oh, that's cool. c: What artist? And, are those what you listen to for all characters, or just your main one? ^.^

Ha, well it's just background music, usually. Though for some of my characters the music I listen to at the time I create them shows in their personality/ name/ etc..

Ah, I see. ^^ I understand that. I know a few people (like Red xD) who listen to even more intense music, like deathmetal-like stoofs, since it really does seem to fit every mood.
So, I getcha. Very nice. :3
-
I just listen what the rp mood is at that second or something.
Like when it's sad rp I listen something sad slower idk...
When it's like fighting or more aggressive I listen powerful music.
and palpalpa so on......

Ah, that makes sense. :3 It can really help bring out the atmosphere in your writing, for sure. ^^

Bumpitybump.
A little update on my own side, as well~
I've been listening to Pendulum a little bit, recently. Generally I like to listen to more laid-back music while I roleplay, but I've gotta say, I really like Pendulum's sound. c: It's more upbeat, but not too shabby to RP while listening to it. :3
-
Anything i like really XD it dosnt matter the situation lol

Nothin' wrong with that. c: What kind of music do you like, floof?

Usually if there's a strong emotion I'm trying to write I will listen to a song corresponding with that feeling. Also, if a character I've made up was influenced by a song I was obsessed with during his/her creation, I'll play that song in the background while roleplaying with that character.
Other than that, I usually need total silence to focus properly. What I do listen to while roleplaying is usually either Vocaloid music or from the album Wild Execution, but can also consist of other random songs that are stuck in my head.

That's pretty deep, especially with the songs being kind of 'dedicated' to a certain character. I actually do a lot of the same (take Linger, the winged lion in my siggy, for example: his 'song' is "Water Night" by Eric Whitacre). ^.^ But, that's cool!
I can't say I've heard of Vocaloid stuff before, though. I'll have to look it up sometime. x3

I listen to a lot of different music when I role play, but it will normally never have words. I love listening to the Guild Wars 2 soundtrack, Skyrim, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Halo, Kingdom Hearts, Game of Thrones, and Downton abbey soundtracks to name a few. I also like listening to classical music as well :)

Soundtrack buddies. -air paw- xD I totally squee'd when I saw the LOTR listed in there, as well. I've played that music in my symphony before, so I've used that a considerable amount for roleplay, and just plain old listening, as well. ^.^ Very cool!

I used to play a lot of instrumental, soundtrack, and New Age music, but then I learned how to tweak the in-game music, so now I just listen to the Princess Mononoke soundtrack while I play. And it fits so perfectly!

Huh. That seems interesting. I think I'll try that out. c8 -wiggle-

Silence. I can't Role Play with music in the background. But, occasionally the FeralHeart soundtrack is alright.
-
Ah, I feel ya there. Sometimes silence can be the best, especially when you're in a RP situation that requires a little more thinking than usual.
So, I get that. I do find some music (like more upbeat/loud/dance tunes, etc.) distracting at times.
I've met plenty of roleplayers that prefer silence, as well. ^^
-
Actualy i have my youtube account playlists going, normal i have it on "Even More Feral-Heart music"
Whitch is just one of the many playlists i have on my youtube, feel free to use it as well.
-
Youtube playlists, verreh nice. ^.^
Do you have a link to one? I'd love to listen to it. :3 (I'm always looking for new music, anyway, and I love to hear what kind of music others like.)
-
you can always find them on my channel, Mossstar1992
-
Squee, I found your playlist, actually. ^.^ It's all really upbeat~ Sounds like stuff to listen to when you're derping around with buddies in Fluorite and whatnot. c:
I really liked the P!nk and LP stuffies, too~
-
I like the Lord of the Rings music c8 Especially The Two Towers. I often listen to native American music such as a CD I have called "Power Animals". A lot of the time I listen to my music player which has things like: I Cry-Flo Rida, She-wolf(falling to pieces)-David Guetta feat. Sia, Titanium-David Guetta feat. Sia. Depends on what I'm doing. Sometimes I just like silence. x3
-
Ahh, so kind of a mix between more ambient music, and then some more upbeat stuffies. Nice! I can't say I've heard any Native American music, but it does sound like it would kinda fit the intended atmosphere of FH.
I'm definitely digging the LOTR stuff, too~
(By the way, your siggy is amazing. O.O *Flies to Raven's thread* xD)
-
Yush I love the Native American music c:
(I know isn't it? X3 I love my dragon)
-
I listen to new pop music. ;D
-
Music usually distracts me from portraying my character correctly, so I do my best in complete silence, but when I do listen to music during a roleplay it's a song that fits the current situation or theme of the roleplay, music that fits the situation or theme seems to distract me way less than music that has little to do with the situation/theme.
-
The music of... Artofgardens.
-
I heard Cloud Raps :T
-
During the rare times I do roleplay, I stick to my usual theme and listen to sea shanties, lol
