Title: Map Maker Crashing
Post by: Oslo on October 22, 2017, 05:44:06 am
When loading a heightmap, it crashes!

Hello, My name is Dazai. I've been making maps for a long time in the past but have now encountered a problem.. Never before have I encountered this problem, I've tried a couple solutions, such as renaming the file, using a different extension (png to jpg), creating a blank canvas and using that, converting to greyscale on photoshop

I really want to get back into creating maps however with this troublesome error I cannot continue doing what I love.

For Starters,
Make sure you don't have any duplicate particles, that can cause your crashing...
Another thing to look out for is to see if it's the texture pack you're using ( if you have installed any recently ) that's making your game crash.
Also, when you go into your 'terrains' folder, does the 'temp.map' is even there and if so, is there an error to it.
You might have to try and get the original textures back if you haven't yet..
Here's a link to all the files that came with the game. Good luck ~!

*waves*

Try the things said above, and refer to the tutorial if need be, but also make sure that y’er map file name doesn’t have any spaces. If it does, the file won’t load and may be causing the game to crash.

Also, it may be that ye ‘aven’t compressed the image properly. I don’t know how Photoshop works, but to simply put it, select all and copy visible then paste it on a new canvas and save as a .jpg. There’s something on FH that makes the game crash when layers and whatnot are involved with height maps. I’ve yet to figure out why, but that’s just how ‘tis.

Hope this helped ye, deary! Best of luck map making.

Make sure alpha channel is off

Or, try exporting it from gimp

Ah! Glad ye got it all figured out. I think I’ve had that problem too with SAI. It may have something to do with when it exports and gives ye that “each layer have opacity” option?

Anyhoo, let us know if ye come across any other issues. ^u^

Glad you got it working at least <:
A bit of advice, because this is something I do for Paint Tool SAI ( Because I use that to do my maps ).
Whenever you go to save, make sure you click that top option ( the one asking about the RBG ( ? ) ) and then try opening it up in another program that actually supports the whole 'Greyscale Mode' feature.
Just something you can try in the future for practice because after that, my maps were able to work.
Good luck with your map making ~!
