Okay, this idea came from an other forum I'm on.
Basically it boils down to the ability to be able to ignore all new threads and posts that apppear on a certain (sub)board. The threads and posts placed in that board would then also not pop up in the "Show unread posts since last visit" list. This Ignore boards option would well fit under the "Modify profile" button on your profile. This might make it easier for some folks if they don't want any notifications about, say, the contest boards or the Ask me subboard, for instance.

I think another forum i go on actually has this, it's probably wired in behind the scenes somewhere but the moderators accidentally break stuff trying to get such functions to work on the forum face that people use.
Probably doable when they're not so busy.

there is a weird notification setting that implies you can do this, and i know xenforo has a massive amount of settings regarding muting threads
but this forum layout/type doesn't seem to either be compatible with that/doesn't have the ability to.
if it does then shoot, why not.
but that would involve push notifications i think[at least with xenforo].

I heavily support this. My unread tends to be clogged with forum game threads, and sometimes other threads I'd be interested in can get lost in the sea of forum games. I'm sure other people feel the same way in regards to other types of threads. Being able to toggle specific boards would be a much appreciated addition.

I was just thinking about this after viewing all my unseen. That would be so nice! or even the option to favorite a board, or mark it as important so it stays at the top!

I hear you. I'd go nuts if I couldn't mute some discord channels. It would be super cool to have something like that implemented!

Only minor fix I'd see having to be done is announcements n' such on said ignored board still need to be able to show up, as they are announcements after all.
