Ask Me / Ask Tearless
« on: July 18, 2016, 10:18:09 pm »
I feel like I might have done this years ago, but I've been gone a while and, more importantly, I'm housesitting and kind of have nothing to do. Please alleviate my boredom; I'll gladly talk about any of the following:
- Art stuff
- Modding and Texturing stuff
- Personal stuff (I mean within reason, you're not getting my bank account number)
- Stuff about boat operation or cat/dog/horse genetics because I happen to have an abnormal amount of knowledge about those two topics in particular, for unrelated reasons
- Anything else that isn't in those categories, I'll probably answer, I'm really bored

You guys keep asking, so I'm delivering.

I wasn't lying when I told people repeatedly over the past three years that most of my textures just don't exist anymore, but the good news is that instead, I've remade the often-requested canine and feline overhaul entirely with better fur textures (though still in keeping with the original aesthetic), ALL of the eyes redone, and other bonus features that I didn't include before. I'm still working around the simple fact that being an adult is time consuming, so at least for now I'm still holding back on any GUI retextures and things like the galaxy portals or sci-fi moon, but hopefully this is better than nothing.

Leaving / Hello, Goodbye, T'was Nice to Know You
« on: October 07, 2013, 02:51:08 am »
So, I've decided that the time has come for me to take my leave of FeralHeart. It simply doesn't hold much interest for me anymore; modding takes up time that I'd rather spend on other artistic endeavours, the types of RP I prefer (ie. involving more humanoids/plot and less sitting around/hunting) just don't exist here, and those were the two main reasons I was involved in the game and community. Also, though I know there are still a lot of wonderful individuals around here and I'm very glad to have met you all, I've watched the FH community as a nebulous collective change dramatically and, honestly, deteriorate since I joined several years ago. Too much drama between mods and the people who complain about them/blame them for everything, too much complaining about one species 'clique' or another. Too much overall finger-pointing. Maybe it got too big, maybe the median age range is going down, maybe my age is just going up and my perspective is the only thing that's changed, I really don't know which, but I'm a bit sad that it happened, whatever it was. In any case, it's time for me to move on.

I don't know whether I'll show up again occasionally or not. I might do that, or I might just delete the game from my computer, or show up for official events since those are usually fun (my account and mods thread will stay up whatever happens, because I'm weirdly clingy about game accounts and people still seem to be downloading the mods). Should anyone want/need to contact me, I check my DA notes regularly.

Nice knowing you all. I'll miss quite a few of you and bear no ill will toward anyone.

And yes, I'm ashamed of myself for actually using a song lyric as my subject line.

Ask Me / Ask Tearless!
« on: August 17, 2013, 05:14:35 am »
(I have a vague memory of possibly making a thread here before, but that was over a year ago and I can't find it so... here we are. So much has changed since the last year or two that it's probably all irrelevent now anyway)

Anyway, yeah. *throws question-mark-shaped confetti* If I have somehow tricked you into thinking I'm an interesting person (who is definitely not an escaped experimental positronic android), and you have any random question you'd like to ask, now you can. I can't think of anything within the forum rules that I wouldn't answer, so go forth.

Screenshots / Tearless's Adventures Beyond the Fourth Wall [9/12/13]

Overly dramatic title is overly dramatic, but it's kind of accurate if you think about it. Just random moments of derp here now, but I might try my hand at editing at some point.

The Day Everyone Sprouted a Luxurious Mane

Cuddles with Avanti...

Newton finds himself again removed from his comfort zone by way of face-licking...

Then things got weird...

Instagram filter? Nah, just what happens when you F3 inside someone's yellow bubble item:

Hunger City dogs vacationing in the refreshingly non-radioactive countryside...

Newton takes the news of his imminent and involuntary marriage surprisingly well:

Ash being a derp in Sky's Rim...

Cheshire is either having a seizure, or noticing some terrible danger to which Ash is happily oblivious. Either way it can't end well.

A motley crew of strange creatures/machines.

The... erm... prototype for my robot cougar's eyes, back in the early stages of his creation. This is why we don't preset with the UV turned off, kids.

GIVE ME YOUR SOUL!!!

R. Gethin's dream of a robot bear cavalry was surprisingly succesful. The robots may be subject to the Three Laws, but the bears have no such inhibitions and are much bigger.

Game Discussion / Playing to the Godmodders: We're Making it Worse!
« on: January 11, 2013, 09:52:53 pm »
I'm sorry in advance for the text wall.

So, I don't even have to go into the problem that is illiterate godmodders in FeralHeart. There have been probably around half a dozen threads about that. What I feel the need to mention is the most common piece of advice given for how to deal with them, which is "godmod right back!" Also in this vein are the people who respond to illiterates with sarcasm and relentlessly correcting their grammar (ie. sparklewulf1: u cnat beet me im to powerfl!!! OtherGuy: *you *can't *beat *I'm *too *powerful).

I'm not sure why this is so widely considered a good idea. To my mind, it's one of the WORST possible ways to handle it. Godmodding at a godmodder will not resolve the problem, and it certainly won't show them how annoying they are. it will escalate it and pointlessly antagonize people. Unless you were looking for a fight for some reason, nothing gets accomplished there. Being patronizing and correcting grammar (no matter how satisfying it is) might be even worse, as being talked down to is one of the most agravating things in the world, and almost certain to turn a minor spat into a full-on caps-firing swearing hate war. It's also not a whole lot more mature than the person who started it.

While I'm not really qualified to give advice about anything (except catching peacocks. That I can help you with), I'd strongly recommend trying a not-often used approach and politely ask that they leave you alone. I have had several moments where, after saying 'please stop harrassing me,' they did. If that doesn't work, block them (even if you don't like blocking, you can always unblock a few minutes later). If they're doing anything against the rules, screenshot and report them; the mods are very responsive about things like that.

Oh, and please, please, please stop addressing people you find annoying as 'honey/dear/sweetheart/etc.' It's... yeah, just... please.

Art Gallery / Tearless's Entry
« on: December 25, 2012, 09:06:34 am »

My oft-used character Newton laying around in the Temple of Dreams. I think it's becoming more and more obvious who I borrowed the colour and style of his mane from... XD

Link to dA: http://tearlessrain.deviantart.com/

And to the painting itself at normal size: http://tearlessrain.deviantart.com/#/d5p77tu

It's much less tiny in my dA gallery; I'm not sure why it is here...

As far as I can determine, I'm within my rights to do this, but if that's not the case I'll cease immediately.

Many people, in the past, have wished that exported presets could be seen by everyone on the server, but it's been said that it would be impractical and put a heavy load on both the server and the mods. Seeing as that's the case, I got the idea to do the closest thing I could think of and make a giant download of presets, from anyone who wants to submit one. There is no category, the only restriction being the FH rules, and they will be seen by anyone who downloads the presets (over which I have no control, but hopefully some will).

Submission Info

If you'd like your preset(s) to be included in the download, post in this thread, making sure your post includes:

- A download link for your preset(s)

- Between one and two screenshots (this is to ensure nothing against the rules will be in the download; I will not include presets that do not have an accompanying screenshot)

- The deadline for submission this time is November 5th, but if this goes the way I'm hoping there will be regular updates, and you will still be able to submit a preset for the next one.

Take Note:

- This is NOT an impromptu contest. This is a way to enable more people to see more cool presets while roaming the public maps.

- You must post the fhp file for your preset. This is the one found in FeralHeart>Presets, NOT the one found in FeralHeart>my_presets.

- You can submit as many presets as you'd like, but for the sake of the person compiling these (that'd be me), try to keep it to characters you have out on public maps. Presets you only use in mapped RPs do no one any good.

What to Post Here:

- Your preset download with a screenshot.

- Any questions you might have.

What NOT to Post Here:

- Your preset download with no screenshot.

- Off-topic chat of any kind.

- Advertisements for your request thread.

- Preset requests.

Download:

None yet.

Current submission deadline is November 5th (which has nothing to do with V for Vendetta, I swear).

Next deadline will be November 30th.

Game Help / FeralHeart not working on latest OS Mountain Lion update...
« on: October 02, 2012, 08:30:17 pm »
Dunno if any other Mac people had sufficient bad judgement to install the latest Mountain Lion update, but, much like everything else, FeralHeart doesn't work at all since I got it. It won't even open, it just starts up, shows the little terminal window, and does absolutely nothing else until I force quit it.

I've tried this with both the latest version of FH (which was always a little glitchy for me) and the previous (which worked fine until now), and both do the same thing. I know most of you are Windows users, but any help would be greatly appreciated; I can't even texture mod right now.
