Title: Oh Look, Zar's Having More Issues
Post by: Zarorah on May 13, 2012, 02:44:22 am
No surprise that I'm back d:

Anyway, I got the new version of GIMP, and I made a terrain in it.  Now, in this GIMP, you have to export to save as a .png.  I can't use the exported .pngs in the MapMaker, as it'll freeze.  The one time I DID get it to work, the corners of the map went up into the sky, like there were two giant poles.

Are you making sure to follow other guidelines?

513x513
png
one layer
greyscale
no alpha channel (Checked in layers window by right clicking the layer for image)

I've noticed before, some people have had to use jpeg files, may also want to try that? png generally is the file to use for map maker though.

I've had this problem for a while, but found that I forgot to start with a grayscale base and flatten the image when finished.

I myself have never had to resort to using a .jpeg file as a height map, though if nothing else works, it's always worth a shot.

Gimp works the same as any other art program. If there is an issue it will most likely be one that Cloudfish posted. As Deafosho stated, you want to make sure that you have greyscale settings, it may not work if you pick out greyscale colours, you have to actually change the settings of the image to make sure that mapmaker will accept it. If the one time it did work for you and it looked really weird, it may be because (in map maker settings) your map height is set really high, or possibly the dimensions of the image you loaded were not 513x513 (I'm not sure though, if this is possible)

I've made sure that it's all of the guidelines, and my game still freezes :/

Paste image here. See what's wrong with it. Or send via PM incase you're worried of theft.

Le update...

Made a new map terrain, worked like a charm.  I might have forgotten to flatten the image ^^'

Hope it works for you. I, personally, have never been able to make a map myself, but I can use others' without problems. All PCs have idiosyncrasies, that could have just been a temporary thing it was doing to you.

And, of course, I have ANOTHER issue.  I can't change the terrain ._.

EDIT: Ran it under OpenGL rather than Direct3D9 and it worked fine for about five hours-ish.  But now, I can't even get to log in.  I click on the icon and it (as usual) takes me to the selection screen.  I click okay to start the game, then the game freezes and I can't close it out.  I've tried running as administrator.  If more stuff like this happens, I may just leave the game, since it does nothing but mess up on me.
