Title: View distance does nothing whatsoever!!!
Post by: isone on June 04, 2012, 02:11:17 am
tried changing the view distance to zero.... did nothing at all. literally no change. didnt speed up my game whatsoever. not the tiniest bit of effect. restarted the game to see if it would do anything but nope.. not a thing.. why doesnt view distance work for me? i've tried it on a few different computers with the exact same result... nothing... is this a bug? or did they never implement the ability to change the view distance at all? what's going on? i dont understand. i can turn water reflections off with a tiny bit of performance increase but view distance has no effect whatsoever.. why?

View distance works. I don't really understand why it doesn't work for you, but I do know it works....

View distance should only affect the objects in this game. But your actual view distance as in ground is still the same.

As Red said its only for objects, so for example if u see a mountain for away and dont wanna see it either because for some it lags if so many things are on screen at once, or just plainly u dont want to see it. Then u change ur view distance. Its more of a Lag deter then anything

no.. it literally does nothing at all.. i can see things far away just as if i had max view distance.. it does literally nothing whatsoever. no performance increase at all there is really not a zip of a change for me. i tried changing view distance from max to zero and literally nothing happened.. even when i restarted the game.. it did absolutely nothing

The performance boost isn't that great unless it's a map completely filled with objects.

Also keep in mind, if an object is placed within the map and has the "Object Is Big" marked to it, they will not be affected if you lower the view distance. Only small objects will disappear as you lower the view distance.

well I can't even get on the plains.. and it has no effect in cape or ficho caverns whatsoever. even the small objects appear perfectly clearly to where they're just a spec on the screen i can still see them with zero view distance. it doesnt do anything at all. even in bonfire island which i only gotten onto once magically somehow had no effect when i changed the view distance it still lagged at like 1-5FPS and cape of distant worlds lags like no other. its about the same as bonfire. temple of dreams lags like nuts too but its a tiny bit faster. and ficho caverns is mostly perfectly smooth.. ficho tunnel is even worse than bonfire and just like before. view distance has literally no visual or performance effect at all doesnt change the framerate by 0.1FPS is it because i dont have a graphics card as new and as powerful as the nvidia tesla or something? 3:

Once again Trey, The users here are trying to help you and you arent being quite nice, have you tried what they have asked you to try or are you just gonna keep using your Linux excuse, If Linux is that bad get a new computer and stop complaining about problems you are not allowing us to help you fix with your arrogant attitude towards us.

We have all tried to help you on several occasions too no avail as your replies to us seem to make no sense and are quite honestly pointless to the matter at hand, Posting a help question and telling the person that is giving you the help "it is not going to work I have a linux" is not going to get you anywhere maybe you should try what they ask you to try or plain and simply just get a new computer as stated before. You have treated us rudely on several occasions while I try to help you and you are quite ignorant towards our advice.

Please learn some manners and a little bit of respect.

Your view Distance setting isn't really made for increasing game performance significantly. It reduces lag in item cluttered maps, which none of the default ones are.

I notice the effect more with custom meshes.

Bad tokens and server errors have more to do with your internet connection actually. Using a linux OS won't help much too, as FH was designed to run on a Windows OS

EDIT: watermill is an FH+ map, FH+ runs very poorly as it is. I would suggest using regular FH if you'd like to avoid errors

Trey everyone has been trying to help you, we understand not everyone can buy a laptop etc. But everyone can have respect for those trying to be kind and go out of their way to give u guidance on how to fix something. If distance works for everyone else then it is a problem on ur side, not a FH problem or bug as u call it. If the problem isnt fixed then obviously its ur computer or something on ur end. Meaning that coming here to complain more and not take our advice is something i suggest you don't do. Or in the end no one will ever help you~ Please do come back when ur issues are resolved and yes when some bugs on FH are fixed if thats whats bothering you so :)

Will leave this topic alone now so it dosent become a argument thread~
