I just downloaded Windows 7, and I thought FH would finally work (I had issues with it when i was using Windows 8 consumer preview) but alas, a problem arised. When i click on the FH icon it says something like "d3dx9_42 is either not designed to run on Windows or there was an error". Then i will will say 5 seconds later "FeralHeart.exe has stopped working". This is SO annoying I thought I was finally going to be able to play the game. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

d3dx9 sounds like a DirectX issue. When the game first starts up and you have all the different options for the display settings, try changing it to OpenGL and see if that fixes it.
Alternatively, if the splash screen isn't showing up, navigate to your FeralHeart directory (C:\FeralHeart usually) and open up ogre.cfg
find the Render System line and make sure it says: Render System=OpenGL Rendering Subsystem
If not, change it to that and save the .cfg, then try launching the game again.
-
Thank you! I'll try that (this thread is still open to replies)
-
Alright, I hope it works for you. :D
-
It was already on OpenGl, I tried changing it to DIrectx but that didn't work at all.
-
Perchance some other issue, then. I'm presuming you've already tried re-downloading the game from this website?
-
Yes.
-
Hmm! another suggestion is to try downloading the .dll that is giving you problems. One download which I've found is this: http://www.dll-files.com/d3dx9_42.zip?0WGmXFYDgQ (http://www.dll-files.com/d3dx9_42.zip?0WGmXFYDgQ)
download the zip, extract it, then take the d3dx9_42.dll file inside of that and place it inside C:\FeralHeart.
I've downloaded it myself and it doesn't appear to be infected, but no guarantees. :F
It's odd that you're getting this error, because as far as I can tell, FeralHeart doesn't even come with that particular .dll.
-
Thanks :) but I might wait to download that considering that I don't have an anti-virus on here yet. Any other suggestions?

When you changed the Render System line in ogre.cfg, what did you write?
If you're using DirectX, it should look like this: Render System=Direct3D9 Rendering Subsystem
I'm going to presume that's what you wrote, but I just want to double-check. :3

Also, one of the most basic things you can try, which doesn't always work, is to attempt running the program as an administrator. To do this, just right click on FeralHeart.exe in the FeralHeart directory and select "Run as administrator"
-
Yes Ive tried that to, and also yes to your last post to. I just can't think of what would cause this.
-
Could it possibly be your graphics card? I've heard of it being ot updated and causing these types of problems.
-
I thought I did just recently but I'll look into it. Thank you!
-
Mhmm. Hopefully this is the problem so you can easily get it updated and get into the game.
-
Well, the only other thing I can think of right now is to attempt reinstalling or installing the latest version of DirectX. You can get that here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=35 (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=35) (make sure you uncheck "install the bing bar" in the installer, because the bing bar is rubbish)
and in addition to what Bloo said, it's also good to update your GPU drivers. To figure out what your GPU is, go to the start menu and type dxdiag into the search bar at the bottom. Once it's loaded, go to the display tab and find the name of your display device. It should be something like Name: ATI/Nvidia, et cetera. From there, you can either search for the drivers yourself - or if you post the name here, I could try and find them for you. :3
if that doesn't work, then I'm not entirely sure. :(
-
Ive already updated to the latest version of DirectX. And Would there be a way to see what type of graphics Im running and if iI need to update? Thank you : )
-
Yup! rofl. :3 I typed it into the last post:
"go to the start menu and type dxdiag into the search bar at the bottom. Once it's loaded, go to the display tab and find the name of your display device."
-
Oh sorry I didn't quite understand at first xD
-
I haven't updated for three years o.o I don't know if my mom will allow me to update my GPU though.
-
:o! Well it would be bettering the system if you did - I suggest consulting with her about it, as downloading the latest drivers is usually important. It might even fix your problem. :D
Edit: Also, what's the name of your GPU? If you got permission from your mum to update, I could try and find the drivers for you. :3
It should look like this:

Also! in the system tab, next to operating system, which version of Windows 7 do you have? 32 bit or 64 bit?
-
So would I have to buy a new updated graphics card or would that be just a free download from Microsoft? I'm not sure what the name of my GPU is, and I'm also unsure if I'm running 32 or 64 bit.
-
The driver is a free download from whomever your graphics card manufacturer is. To figure out the requisite information, you just type dxdiag into the start menu search bar, like this:
Then after you type that in to the required area and press enter, it will bring up a window much like the one in my previous post. You can figure out of your operating system is 32 bit or 64 bit in the system tab (should be on it by default) by seeing what's written next to "Operating System", then if you click on the display tab up top, the GPU name will be located in the area I circled with red. :3
-
OK thank you I'll look into that tomorrow it's getting late where I am :3
-
Alright! :D Hopefully this can all be resolved.
-
I have a 32 bit computer, if that makes a difference :3
-
Yup! it does. :3 and what's the name of your graphics device?
-
Yay! I guess it doesn't even matter anymore because now FH works perfectly! I'm not even sure how this fixed. I think we had a virus though that wasn't letting FH run.
-
Thank you, for all the help you've given me I'm so happy. :3
-
Oh, well I'm glad you got it working. :D!
