i noticed i and the others here have karma what is this?

If you're helpful, nice, make good suggestions or idea, people award with karma. Sort of like an award system of sorts. Nothing comes out of it, really. Just a way for people to pat you on the back.

However if you are rude, bash others, or anything negative, people will bite you and deduct from your karma points.
