Title: Chirin's Ringing Bell
Post by: Abomine on July 26, 2012, 07:31:36 pm
Ringing Bell, or Chirin no Suzu. I just saw the entire movie on YouTube this morning. I highly recommend it, but it's extremely sad. Like, Old Yeller/Oedipus Rex levels of sad. You've been warned.

Part 1 of the English-subbed version:

Part 1 of the English-dubbed version:

I personally like the English-subbed version better, but the English-dubbed version is pretty decent too. The dialogue is watered down a little, but the overall theme of vengeance and loss of innocence is still intact.

My signature puts two of my favorite 'cute critters' in one image: a kitten and a giant isopod. Kittens are cute in the more 'traditional' sense. Isopods are cute in a more bizarre, grotesque sense.

But back to the original thread subject. Yay! Somebody responded! So, which one did you watch? The English-subbed or English-dubbed?

Well I watched part of the dub first but.. it seemed kind of dull IMO. But the subbed one seemed to have more emotion in their voices C: So i watched the rest of those.

@Luzxia: Yeah, this movie was English-dubbed back in the Dark Ages of anime in America. The English-speaking voice-actors weren't really sure of what they were doing or how they were supposed to sound. IMO, modern-day English voice-actors in anime sound much more natural.

@Vitani: The song is the beginning is absolutely beautiful. Now, if only I could find it on iTunes or download it somewhere...
