Title: Le REALY late intro >.<
Post by: Raphilion on August 17, 2012, 09:20:30 pm
Sawubona (Hello)

Raphi-Lion Here.

Long story short; I saw a youtubez video about a map somebody made for the game and asked about it and that's how I found out about the game about 2 months ago. The lioness running around got me really interested cause, as you can see by my username, I love lions.
I love all wildlife actually, and am an avid conservation-minded person. I donate(d) to causes when I can but being jobless makes it difficult, but I try anyways to support those causes that actually care!

Now for my turn; I was born a mChunu (white boy) in South Africa 20 years ago in June.  I love all things outdoors and my best friend from SA is a SA-born Indian (They don't call SA a Rainbow Nation for nuthingz ^^) and he introduced me to fishing a few years back after taking me jet-skiing one time on a dam, fun timez. After that, I have managed to catch quite a few edibles such as Salmon and a few others.. My best catch just before I immigrated to Israel last year was a Barble (catfish) which reached my waist when held beside me (I'm avarage size, not tiny, not huge). If I remember correct, it weighed in 8kg :)) Btw, when we fish, we mostly do catch and release, unless it's to eat or to give to the locals that work on his family's farm who sometimes rely on fish-catches to feed themselves.

Oh boy, remindz meh next time not to chat at same time of writing a long post XD.. Nao I don't know what else to add. Well *Ponders*... For as long as I can remember, Lion King was my favez Disney movie. When I was still a lighty (S.African term for small/young person) I watched that movie on VHS over and over.. You know vhs, right? The old-skool tapes before DVD's came into the picture. I kinda wish they still made those kinda films rather than that modern brainwash quack that you see these days where the char's carry cellphones looking all cool and stuff.. Kinda sets a bad example. Hence why we see more and more younger generations with IPhones who have no idea what's the difference between a leopard and a cheetah (True story - sorta: I visited a pretty well managed zoo here in Israel and actually the father didn't even know that a leopard is not a cheetah *Faceglass*)

In about a week, you'll see my goodbye thread cause I'll be entering the army (Kinda excited and nervous at the same time O_,O). After the military, I hope to be able to volunteer some time back in SA for anti-poaching. over 300 Rhino killed for their horn so far, this year alone! Kinda annoying that I can't do much right now but we do what we can such as donate to worthy causes and keep in contact with the right people and build contacts like that and also build knowledge learning new things about conservation each day from keeping contact and through articles. I hope for the future to study zoology and from there start a career in wildlife conservation and preservation. One of my true hopes is to find a successful way to rewild (And eventually re-introduce to the wild) captive-bred wild-animals that are used for the horrid industry of breeding and canned-hunting. Google canned hunting or PM me if you wanna know what that is or wanna know more about it; If you PM me I'll try respond as soon and as best as I can or refer you to other sources and interesting reads on the internet such as the rescue of two lion cubs - Sassy and Jesse - Who almost died of malnutrition but were rescued on time by a kind-hearted volunteer who just volunteered at the wrong lion-facility. I don't want to place crude details on here for obvious reasons.
Yeah, I bet you can tell by now how much wildlife abuse annoys me. btw, I'm not vegetarian: I believe in hunting for food, not hunting for so called 'fun' as so many pay thousands to do. Some even go as far as claim it for medicinal purposes (Lion/Tiger bones, Rhino horn, Pangolin scales, you name it)>>> TCM is one prime example.

Ok, Imma stop there before I get into troublez lol. XD

I like love pizza and coke.
I love animals.
I love socializing with the right kind of people, but sometimes need some 'alone-time' to myself as well.
I love Extreme-sports and anything inbetween. just a random list of stuff I've done and still do: I've done a 100m gorge swing off the top of a cliff-side waterfall ^^, I've quad-biked up the Sani-pass into Lesotho, I lurv rock-climbing and anything that goes with it like slacklining, abseiling, canyoning, destroying fingers to get that route (Or demolish them trying :P ), I enjoy Mnt-Biking wherever the trail leads..
Oh boy, I better make a new line for how much I used to a still do love Hiking. Summits in Drakensberg SA I've summited so far (In my earlier years, started summiting at age of about 14 or so); Cathedral Peak 3004m (3 Times), Gatberg (Literally means hole-mountain in Afrikaans, a local language, cause there's a hole in the middle of mountain), Sterkhorn.
Fluent in English, Sorta in Hebrew and even less in Afrikaans. I speak French. I know a few words in Zulu.

Yebo, that's pretty much me in an ostrich egg-shell XD

I was lazy to read this intro earlier, but welcome to feral heart.

You are a interesting person, really. pretty uncommon and admirable.
I hope you can be a good volunteer for anti-poaching, the way you care for wildlife right now is very admirable.
I like wildlife, but i did not care so much as you, and my mother does not help when i talk about wildlife, my mother even does not difference between a leopard and a tiger.
Humanity are doing bad things to wildlife, and new generations of people should take more care about. You are the example for me.

I wish this community will hear you and your experiences and the people will get more interested in the care of the wildlife.

Hmm although I know you pretty well around the forum hello and welcome still to the big Feral Heart family Raffy!  I hope you have nothing but the best times on here and make tons of new friends. And wow very long intro but not long enough to describe nearly as much of how cool of a person you are :)

Ouka - Thanks. I'm sure glad it's not too late XD

Thierry - haha, Thanks.. I understand why you were too lazy before.. I sometimes get lazy when I see a long article, even if it's an interesting article that I wanna read but can't be bothered to finish lol.
I hope to be able to travel back to SA to volunteer.
My mother's kinda the same when it comes to recycling, but I do it anyway. But at least she is against cruelty to animals and such. Sometimes I just keep it to myself rather than bother my parents when they aren't the ones killing rhino for their horn.
That kinda is the point.. Get the new generations interested in conservation and preservation of wildlife and nature. If not now, they may not get interest for it later on in their lives. I'm especially glad to have found a community, like this, of mostly animal lovers. Brings me hope to know that there are those in the new generations that actually give a rat's butt about wildlife!
Aww, That's nice to be an example to somebody.. I of course have my 'Heros' such as Beverly and Dereck Joubert (Wildlife film-makers and conservationists), Louise Joubert (Owner at Sanwild Wildlife sanctuary and rehabilitation center (in South Africa)), John Varty (Tiger conservationists (In SA)) and many more awesome people I meet mostly through Facebook.

Suragaha - Thanks anyway D: You all are awesome people!
