Title: Custom Map Music
Post by: DimensionGal on February 19, 2011, 08:11:40 pm
Well, first, let me ramble on about my little beef with this. XD

... It started when I was testing one of my new maps, a magma chamber for one of my elemental characters, and thought: "Gee, if I could add some background music in - it would give the place the total ambiance I'm aiming for!" And so I tried incorporating the music file in with meshes, but that just blocked out all the cool sound-effects I had installed on other objects... And generally turned the coolness into herpderp. X.x

Since I'm a bit of an audiophile, and I know I'm not alone... It'd be kinda cool if we could somehow specify background music for custom maps, (and I say background music - so that there's that option to turn it off while still hearing the sound-effects of other objects/walking/swimming/etc.), it would add a whole new level to creating maps. ^.^

This could indeed be useful in some cases. Me likes and others would probably want this aswell.

But for the current situation, did you try to just edit the sound of the actual audio file making it lower volume? Or did it still sound messy?

It still sounded messy, like a terrible mixture of bluegrass and death-metal forced out of a megaphone. XD

I would love this for an addition to custom map making. I'm a music nut so I love being able to incorporate my music wherever I can. :P

The problem with current object sound is: One- If you have a larger map the sounds only works to a certain distance. Two if you have 2 sounds within range of one another to where they over lap, it creates the awful roaring noise. ::) Plus if we're talking songs they over lap one another and it as you put it red, sounds very messy. XD

I believe back in IT it was possible to add custom music to maps themselves, so I think it can be done.

So I approve of this idea and really hope to see it added in the future. :)

I was actually thinking about this when I was making my map yesterday, hard to make a dark map with pretty, calm, peaceful music... XD. Choice music can really set the mood for what ever map.

I like this.

However, it would be hard to keep an eye on the maps to make sure the music stayed age ~ appropriate.

Well, what I did was a copy and pasted the song I wanted in my 'map' to 'music'. I deleted one of the annoying plains music and renamed the song 'plains1'.It worked since I'm the only one who runs round my huge map. With pandas in it. C:

Well, considering that these are private maps and not public ones... Age-appropriate music "monitoring" wouldn't be needed, unless a download thread is made here. And even then, there's the little trick of putting "This music contains Explicit Lyrics" as a warning in download threads. Plus, mods can't exactly delete the map or stop it from being circulated, or that I'm aware of. o.O

Basically, if you know the map has music you find "offensive" - don't download it?

I don't plan on putting music with words in maps if this is added. I think most people would be adding "Epic Score" genre music, or at least I know I would. XD
