Yeah, it's pissing me off, I do not have access to two of my characters because of this.

You could always log into the yellow box and reset your character. ;3 In that case you'll be able to access your characters again.
Ranting about it won't help, keep in mind that the game is >free< for you to play. Just be patient and it'll be back up shortly.

The map isn't actually being updated -- the game actually's just having trouble with the map server. As stated previously, it should work soon enough.
