So I've noticed this quite a bit, and it really sort of bugs me.
Why do people insist on sputtering their real life issues all over in-game? They come on and either break some rules and blame it on a "bad mood", or they lash out at anyone who talks to them because "their life sucks right now".
I know some of it is just attention beggers, hoping that others in the game will give them sympathy or give them all kinds of attention. But for the others...just why? Do they think that by proclaiming their problems all over the internet that it will magically go away? Do they think that by spewing off to everyone (and making others mad too, I'm sure) that they'll feel better somehow? Or are they even hoping to be banned/kicked?
I logged off a few minutes ago due to this happening, someone decided to lash out at everyone who talked to them.
I just felt the need to vent a bit afterwards. .-.
This is maybe in the wrong board, but I dont think so.
-
Well yeah, that sometimes gets annoying too. But I defiantly don't like the users who say it in General, they should keep it in local so eveyone doesn't have to hear the sob-story.

I just joined the game yesterday and have already seen this some. It is common anywhere on the internet. People in a bad mood wanting to lash out, expecting to get special treatment for their anger and then responding with rage with people try to confront them, help them or talk to them. It is almost impossible to appease or reason with these kinds of players and they usually end up getting banned for harassing other players. I am not sure yet how such behavior is handled here and will probably go review the rules in a few. I am also curious about how others will respond.
-
It is getting really, really annoying. Just yesterday, on Bonfire, I was role-playing as Samalia and someone randomly wants to talk about how their life is. I'm sitting there like 'Ok?' So I agreed, and we did. After a while, they started getting in some deep crap. I was in awe. I can tell you it's worse than what I went through, growing up.
Anyway, I really found it interesting. I wanted to help them, I even told them that, but they started to get pissed at me just for saying that. They were saying, I'm saying it in a nicer version, 'I don't need your help! You just agreed to do this thing, now look at what you did!' I'm sitting there with the smile, I never realized I still had on from role-playing, and they went on saying, 'Wipe that damn smile off your face!'
I felt like an idiot. But, after a hour, they logged off. I never saw them today, but they might be on later. I still want to help them.
-
Exactly. I mean, I'd probably love to help them, but when it becomes a big ordeal..just no. It doesn't help anyone.
.-.
-
I have mixed feelings about this, because .. Example.
I don't mind people talking about their personal issues with a friend in local, as long as it's kept at a decent level.
Yet, if they are doing it for obvious attention, it can become rather annoying instead and quickly escalate to something bad.
-
Ignore them and they go away.
Show a lack of sympathy. Maybe that's too easy for me, but sometimes it comes across like they are making it up. I'm not a counselor.
Um, I mean, uh, poor them.
-
Hm, I agree with Ressy's comment, However.
I think people do it because they are unable to face or console with someone in real life, they feel "safer" when it comes to revealing their true emotions because they're behind a monitor. Unfortunately this idealization can result in something not a lot of us want to hear or be around.
I've had moments like these when I just feel like djlkjfsljfrkhg-ing to everyone in FH because of a negative event irl but instead I simply log off and write about it.
Having a bad day really sucks, but even then you still have to keep the feelings of others in mind, keep calm and find a friend to talk to or write about it. C;

I'm sorry, I couldn't stop myself from quoting you. (Btw, I love what you put at the end. XD)
Well, this isn't just about them, I mean, the world doesn't circle around them. But, I still can't help myself from being sad about them. I might be emo, but I don't start complaining about my life online. I write it down in a notebook I keep under my pillow... I mean, I write it in sparkles on my forehead. D:<
Anyhooser, I just can't stand them. They sound like my brother whining about how he can't get a lollipop or some ice cream, and how he thinks it's unfair that I get something and he doesn't. I'm just saying, it's just what it sounds like, not what it looks like.
I really hope you guys can make sense of those words. o3o
-
Hurr<3
Well, in truth, I'm trying to make sense of your words "just what it sounds like, not what it looks like." You mean to say that the tone is what bothers you and not the actual words or that they illicit strangers to vent their innermost thoughts to?

Yes, thank you.
-
See, like Ressy said, I dont mind if they're calm and discussing with their friends. But like Kleiner said, when it becomes the "Everything revolves around me! -eyeflitter-" thing, thats when it becomes a problem that everyone around them now has to deal with. Especially when they rant about it in General.
And like Kleiner and Haruki said: Us internet people are strangers, mostly.

I just think that reacting to it just puts more fuel on the fire. So in a sense I agree with what you're saying, however..not doing anything may just give them more to whine and complain about :L It really is troublesome thing to deal with, but what's there to do. I.I
-
Know the feeling. Seems to me people do it for attention because they're like that, but I just ignore them, not giving them the satisfaction.
There's a little philosophy I go by; what goes on at home/school/work stays at home. There's no need to annoy everyone else that you don't know about it on the internet.

Then again, some people need support from others, like friends. - The only time these kind of things actually annoy me is when they change their names to something rather 'inappropriate' to get attention and curl up in a corner.
Yes, you can have a bad life, we all cope with it differently, but there are better ways to get the attention you need.
They should be looking for good attention, rather than bad. If they do all this, they'll just get flamed at and such, which will make things worse.

I'm alright with people who have problems in life and come to their FH friends for advice or comfort. It's just people who caps spam in General "OMG I F****** HATE MY LIFE SO MUCH!!!!!!" and start whinging that annoy me. It might be a spur of the moment that makes them behave like that, but the ones that constantly do it are the ones seeking attention and/or sympathy in my eyes.

Lol, aye. Then again, sometimes, I feel bad for them and offer to speak to them if they need someone to talk to. I've done that a couple of times actually. ._.'
But there are some people who really do manage to annoy me, usually, those people in general.
-
General in Bonfire might be dead, a lot, but if you notice if it's on it's usually someone who wants a parent... But once they don't have what they want they start crying and whining.
-
Yeah, I don't really thinking you should come on a GAME that people are here to have FUN and ENJOY and start complaining about life. Sure, I would feel bad, but that just isn't why you come on Feral Heart..It's a break from real life, not a counseling session.
-
i'll step in here and play the left side for a bit, since no one seems to be really bringing that up
firstly to consider is the type of people who are the source of the "whining" we're talking about. odds are they're young, likely under fourteen. at this stage in life, no matter how bad their life 'really' is, its always going to come out tougher than it is in reality
and then, no offense guys, but they're on a 3d animal game, which stereotypically would set them at a weird angle in a social standing at best. this is not to say all are, but, generally.
so you take this kid, this bullied kid, who's parents punish them for bad grades, or punish them for not doing their chores. who has next to no friends (or so they claim), and who is at one of the most confusing points in their lives and their left with:
the whiny kid in general who's harping for attention and taking it out on strangers to vent their emotions.
psychologically, getting things off of your chest is proven to make you feel better, right? your mind at ease now that its not bottled with how horrible everything is.
so you've this messed up little kid, and their only outlet is this game. like for the rest of us, its an escape, however they seem to often bring in their baggage. but you know, everyone brings in their baggage, most of us however just don't throw the suitcase into the middle of a pile of people to make them waft our dirty laundry
and why is this kid throwing their laundry around? because they feel they have no other means to. while i agree with the fact that feral heart's general chat is not the place for it.
those whining are whining for a reason; it may not be what they say it is, but there's still something itching to make a cublet behave like that in the first place.

To all the whines,
If your life "Sucks" go out and make it better in real life, don't whine about it!
No offence meant, just my view on this.
-
My God.. I just noticed that too
-
Cloud you make a good point there. Even if they are just looking for attention they probably have something bothering them, even if it isn't that bad. But what I really don't like is when someone complains and when you try to console them it never ends. Like, hours of time wasted on someone who just won't cheer up. People should try harder to look on the bright side of things rather than make other people's lives miserable when they are trying to play a game after a long day of school/work. I know this is a bit inconsiderate, but I just don't understand why people can't think positively for once.
-
What I dislike is when people log on just to complain, yeah. Especially if they incorporate it into roleplay! So many 'emo' characters embody everything the user wants to whine about, and jeez is it irritating!
-
It's especially annoying when the use caps lock in general and swear as well. Plus, most of them may also be trollers who just want to see the reaction of others, therefore getting attention. But sometimes, people are actually having a bad day and that doesn't mean that they can rage at all of us. Basically, I always think about saying to them: We didn't make you have a bad day, you did.
-
Usually most people don't tend to get involved with such drama. Cussing and complaining and whining is very common on Feral Heart just because there are loads of people there who can obliviously see what is going on, which is why they do it; to seek friends and to be the center of attention.
-
Most of the times, these people do it for attention. Often times they don't get the attention they want in real life so they go to the internet to seek it. These people would not have the guts to go out in public to share all these personal life problems they have, so they start sharing their problems with complete strangers over the internet. Why? To get attention, and they know that they won't ever see these strangers in real life. When it comes to internet chats, people share more info with each other than they do in reality. That includes the problems they have in real life. It's pretty bad when people like this go around the FH maps and general chat to whine to everyone on how much their life sucks, and whatnot. It's even worse when they try to put others down to make themselves feel better. It's even more annoying when they start swearing at the people in the chats because they don't like what they say. >:(
So I can understand what you are feeling here. I think it would be so much better if people just kept their problems to themselves and not share it with the rest of the world. No one wants to hear it, I don't want to hear it, so put a sock in it. Thank you, have a nice day.
Even if I have a bad day that day, I don't tell people about it or rant/whine/cry about it in the chats. And I DO NOT go around being angry or rude to everyone I meet because of it. It's just plain stupid.
So yeah, best thing to do is block them if they get too pushy, or mouthy, or rude, or just getting really weird. They will be out of sight, out of mind. ;)
-
In some ways I can understand why one would want to log on a game or chatroom to let out their problems and let them be heard by others, but as mentioned by others in this thread some just take it too far. Staying in a dead part of the map in local or over whisper doesn't kill anyone and sometimes we need to speak out, but I believe I know what this thread was more aimed at and that's those who does "spew" out their problems in groups of users or plain off think that if they act rude it's an excuse to say "I had troubles and my life sucks" Which sometimes can be understandable, but far from an excuse.
I myself have a big problem with users doing this in the General Chat inside of the game, it's the ultimate sign of craving for attention and in all honesty, the majority that does this probably just do it for the sake of attention. If you really do feel bad about something you wouldn't want the world to know about it unless you are ranting it out. Saving everyone else from hearing your complaints and issues and instead talk it out with someone that might understand or actually care for you, instead of just shouting into a general chat and users all over it that probably don't even know your name or who you are. Not to mention it brings down the mood of the whole map eventually.
If users really feel like something is getting to them and going to be a rude hazard towards anyone that decides to just move close to them, maybe they should stop being so full of themselves and just go to a private map or at least in the corner somewhere of a public map where there's less chance of them bumping into other users, maybe even log off and do something else? I know a good majority including myself try to stay on the game even when things are not looking all too great, but some users need to consider their own actions and how they could end up looking by just being this diary laying in the middle of the streets with needles on it.
Users looking for comfort and someone to talk with in local or whisper? I can understand that. Someone who goes on in general about every single little issue they have? Go away from the game and find someone who cares cause we all know why you wrote it into general chat in the first place. I honestly would care more about a user I never seen before sending me a whisper being sad, than someone I at least talked to before crying into the only map chat we have.
Maybe I'm a bit direct with this and should consider that not "all" are just after attention by doing this, but in that case I want these users to consider what they actually are doing. Cause they wouldn't go into a shopping mall and scream out about their issues, maybe a lost child would looking for their mother, but is that the case with FH?
Showing that you are not one taking jokes at the moment and move away = Fine
Bite someones head of for just walking up next to you or asking anything = Not Fine
Talk to friends about issues need comfort or support = Yes, please do.
Cry out next to group of users or into General chat = No, please don't..
To make a nicer game "environment" for everyone and save people from frustration users need to stay within boundaries, boundaries some probably haven't seen or understood before.
-
Good description, Red! You guys have a right to be annoyed by people like that but give them a chance and if you don't beleive a word they say, block them or just ignore them. That's what I do,hope this helped. :)
-
Well, whiners will always be on Feral Heart, and there's not much we can do to prevent it. I understand that people are seeking sympathy and attention by doing so, but what they don't consider is the fact that Feral Heart is a game, not Yahoo Answers. Problems irl should be kept off online games; people come online to relieve stress and have fun, not listen to people complain. When your playing Xbox live, you don't suddenly complain to the computers, do you? So it shouldn't be done of Feral Heart.
Red pretty much said what I was going to. If you need advice, a simple Whisper to a friend would suffice. Or if your life is so tough that complaining is the only way to feel better, then you should get off the computer and find another hobbie.
Aside from that, the best way to get rid of whiners is by simply ignoring them. If the attention isn't fed, they will stop. Talking back to someone complaining - be it advice or a fight - is giving them what they want. If you give them what they want, they will continue.

i run into people like this, this ALL came from ONE person: she said "I live with my mean uncle and aunt" "I have one arm" and they even skipped age, one day she was 12 next she was 15. ((this is off topic but she also said her cousin was Niki Minaj -.-))
-
Yes I agree , I would like to help. But at times the get carried away. I am pissed off easily. But I try to keep my temper down. But some whine too much , for example. One day I was rping with a friend , but then a pup came , it started crying , ect. I asked it what was wrong and it said '' My parents just got divorced.'' I wanted to help it , I knew what it was like at first considering my parents were divorced when I was 6. Anyways so my friend and I tried calming it down... but now it was getting dramatic. It started saying things like ''Im going to kill my self'' or ''I hate my life!''. My friend talked to nicely , but it just moved away. And when we tried to go to it. It would swear , and start ''attacking'' us. So I got angry and logged off.
-
I wish those dumb people would just hide their emotions, its makes everything in-game better. They should relieve NOBODY CARES THEIR LIFE SUCKS. I try to be perky and nice when mine sucks, they should too.
-

that wont get anyone anywhere. just because people have a tendency to complain does not make them dumb, nor should they ever just be simply brushed off as a "nobody cares" deal

......Wow....

It's always the immature, conceited ones who go over the top and frankly I don't think they belong here when they act like that; it just causes problems for everyone else. People play FH to enjoy themselves not listen to people complain about crap. =^.^= With that said let us all keep the enjoyment of others in mind when we're in-game and keep our mouths shut about things that don't concern other members.

True words,Stubby :3
-
I guess people need to vent, and by not telling people they can share their problems with, thats what they should do anyways, but they choose to express their feelings out to the game, which doesn't make sense, but this is one true guess...Just ignore them, or hopefully they'll get some sweet advice.. Here is my example...
Me: *goes online*
-sees about 5 people-
Me: *lays down and chillaxes*
*Hears someone complaining*
whiner: "MY LIFE FREAKEN SUCKS RIGHT NOW.." Me-in mind-: Oh Please no..
Person: *spams local chat, spams General..
Me: >_>...
Person: SHUT UP!!
Me: o_o *Logs off*
The end.. True story..
-
I always see this on Bonfire
