Title: Back again, and this time I'm having trouble with Heightmaps...
Post by: Demon-Fang on November 19, 2012, 06:10:06 pm
Okay so, I'm in a clan now and I've decided that I want to make my clan a map so we don't need to run around on the laggy Flourite Plains. However, the heightmap I've designed for the map, taken from the original WaterMill map terrain but with my own original design, crashes the game whenever I try to load it! The heightmap is titled Moonclanvalleyterrain.png and is located in my new map's folder along with the mask! Can somebody tell me if I've made a mistake somewhere? I'm pretty sure I followed the instructions of the map maker exactly!

Most likely a mistake in how it's saved, and if you load a heightmap that doesn't follow the needed criteria it crashes plain off.

Heightmap itself must be
-grayscale
-1 layer only (flattened)
-png format
-513x513(or same on both sides)
-cannot have alpha channels enabled

Almost make sure you enter the name properly when actually putting it onto your map.

If chu need helpies watch dis.

Yers, if you typed it just like that (Moonclanvalleyterrain) you MUST capitilize the T in terrain. When you do the mask the M in Mask must also be capitilized.
EXAMPLE:
MoonclanvalleyTerrain.png
MoonclanvalleyMask.png

Thank you for the help guys, I still can't get the heightmap working but I know what I've done wrong and I know why I'm doing it wrong - I'm using a program called paint.NET which doesn't have a set to greyscale function. I will give GIMP a go the next time I can and see if I can fix it. I believe that's the only thing wrong with it.

paint.NET? It doesn't have an image>mode>grayscale?

Not on mine unfortunately  :-\ I don't know if other versions have it or what but I've used paint.NET for years and its never had that function.

At least, not to my knowledge, but I just checked and checked again and there's nothing...

Alright, well your best bet is GIMP because photoshop only costs about 500-700 dollars
