Title: Terrain Textures Question.
Post by: Minxy on November 21, 2012, 04:56:56 pm
Okay, so..I'm curious and I'd like to take a shot at it. I'm creating an Autumn map, and I can't find any leaf ground with some grass as a terrain texture, so I thought about making my own..But, I have no clue how to. Although, I can't find any tutorials on how to do it. >.< ~InstertIFAILsignhere.~ If there's anyone out there that knows how to do and wouldn't mind telling me, i'd appreciate it greatly.

I apologise if this isn't in the right place.~

It's really easy. Here's an image set of what to do:

Open gimp/photoshop. Whichever you use for your map-making.

Then, go to your feralheart>media>terrains>textures folder, and open ANY of the textures in that folder. I'll use desertsand for this

Next, you find the picture you want for it. So, say, your leaves. But i'll use mud.
(copy it, then paste on paint)

You can resize it on paint to 512x512. I hi-lighted the resize button. Make sure to untick the little box. After, you copy it,
paste it onto your texture you loaded, then anchor it down. I hilighted that button too

Then, simply export/save as the file as the name you want it. IT MUST BE JPG.

You'll find it on your map terrain textures. (What you named it)

If you need any more help, feel free to ask! Hope this helped you c:

Oh my Wolf! THANKYOU. I'm so thankful for this! You have no idea. xD
Also, is it supposed to come out in squares? o.o xD

Sort of, it depends on the texture. Look, at, say, the sand. That' all squarey. You can blur the outsides to help prevent the squares. It really just depends on the texture. If you want to see a preview, try going onto paint, copy the texture, and paste it onto paint twice c: Also, I'd love to see how it turned out for you c:

Copy and save this over your texture if you dislike it c: I made one for you, and simply blurred out the edges

OR. For one even less squared, and more grassey, use this:

It may look odd from here, but it's much better when actually on a map

Thank you!
So, I decided to try and do some more, and I figured out how to make them seamless. xD Here's some screenies:
Out of the two leaf textures, what one would you say? I'm sceptical on whether to even have them. (Heads up, I suck at masks. xD)

(^First leaf one)

A dirt texture that I found and put seamless. cx

Just another one of the golden grass.^

cx I tried, that's all I can say. xD
