I think it counts as a game problem?

I use GIMP to make my heightmaps. And recently my heightmaps haven't been working in game? I make them in grayscale, 513x513, save them as a .png image in my Feralheart > Media > Terrains > FHmaps folder. Everything I'm meant to do! When I attempt to test the heightmap out ingame, my Feralheart window closes the second I type in the name of the file.

Please help!

Do you have one layer, or more? It has to be a flat png and 513x513.
If there's more than one layer. Merge them down to one before exporting the terrain.

I always flatten them. What I don't understand is it works for some of my maps and it doesn't for others. But it used to work for some. I wanted to remake a Savannah map I was working on. I loaded the .png file into my FHmaps folder and tried it in game. I crashed. Then I added another one and it worked! All the same images, went through the same process and I don't understand what is going wrong... Thanks though Ress.

I looked through that post Sura and it doesn't show any new problems that I don't already know the map might have... Thank you for sharing it with me though. I might just have to reinstall FH, see if it helps or start all my heightmaps from scratch again. :)

I have this same exact problem :C I made my height map and my terrain mask both PNGs - so I think that makes it all one layer.

EDIT Even though I made both PNGs, it still doesn't work.

Even if you have a one layer image, sometimes you still need to flatten it. Was it saved as a PNG file?

Sorry to hear that none of our suggestions worked Squee and also for the rest of you who are also having this same problem. In the future I don't suggest that you guys piggy back on someone else's post though since that can make things confusing when we're attempting to tackle one person's issue at a time. You could always make your own post so users can concentrate on you individually step by step :).

Aside from that I do have a few more ideas of things you guys can do that have worked for others with this same issue and so here goes: (Just keep in mind that I'm not too much of a map maker so I'm sorry if I can't be more specific with details)

- Be sure to review all the steps mentioned above just in case you over looked something.
- Try switching the height map's format to something else and then back again.
- Check that the map doesn't have an Alpha channel if it does remove it.
- Make sure that it doesn't have a transparency layer.
- Copy your image then close from the image until the program is blank, then paste the copied image back in flatten it and save it over again. (Basicially ensures that the image is in one layer too)
- Consider switching the image from Grayscale to RGB and then right back to Grayscale.
- If the height map is saved as png try saving it to jpg instead or vice versa.

I remade my heightmap, I attempted to retest it and it didn't work yet again. I will try what you have said, Sura and see where it gets me otherwise I'll have to scout for other options like maybe a new programme on which to make them. :)
