Since Kovu has been gone there has been no really big updates to the game..and there will unlikely be any if he doesn't return or doesn't give someone else the game files.
Anyway, I've been thinking of a way that there can be small updates to our game.
Like on the Downloads there could be new "official" textures and maps and stuff.
For example:
A map maker makes a stunning map.
Everyone likes the map, but not everyone knows about it because they don't check the forums.
The map could be put with the downloads and there could be a little tutorial in the download file for people that don't know how to download maps. c:
This can't work for everyone though, because not everyone has the best computer so I guess that's a major flaw..
But other small things, like changing the clouds in the game's sky or giving lions and wolves new textures would be nice.
It would feel much better if this game had at least some new things.
And there we go, my idea for the updates. It's probably not going to change anything, but at least I got it out there. ^.^

Mew, I totally agree, floof... I've wondered about ways they could make at least some small updates to the game without Kov, but it keeps running back to whether or not they can.
While anybody can patch together a mod and have some people download (like for the textures you were talking about), when it comes to the actual, official game, I believe there's a lot of in-game coding and encryption that would have to be involved, and I imagine that would pretty difficult. Not to mention, I believe it's only Kov (the way I understand it) that can work through these in-game codes and changes things for the entire game, or even just to add a map.
Encrypted junk. .-.
And, of course, there's the whole issue of ownership. No matter how much work someone does to keep FH running (like Red and Razmirz), the right of ownership still boils down to Kov. It's just that without Kov's permission as owner and creator of FH, we don't necessarily have right to make any major changes to the official game.
(Which, in the back of my head, I think that's a bunch of bologna in a hamsterball, but the name of the game, when it comes to this kind of thing, is diplomacy.)
I really do appreciate your idea, though, and I think everybody's been itching for some sort of update. They are good ideas, but (I could be wrong) I think we still have those tripwires I mentioned above that are causing the biggest issues.
Again, your ideas are still appreciated, though. <3

In addition to what WhiteLightHeart said above, the one thing is even if we did get updates like that out, there isn't a way (to my knowledge, without Kov) that we could force players to download it. Like we couldn't make a popup saying "Please downloaded the latest patch" when you try and log into the game. Only the users who are at least slightly involved with the forums and/or dA groups would know about something like this.

@Ringo
Yeah...I didn't know that you couldn't have the message for players to update the game. :c
That's another major flaw with my idea, lol.
@WhiteLightHeart
I meant like textures and and stuff, I know that we can't actually to anything to the actual game, like adding more maps and changing the main things.
With the ownership thing, I thought that Kovu had just abandoned Feral Heart?
So maybe that means FH belongs to Raz now...? I don't know, probably not. :/
And thank you. c:

He did "abandon" the game, as in he doesn't do anything with it, however is still belongs to him, technically. If Raz were to truly own the game, he would have the codes and such and would be able to make updates. Raz just owns the server.
-
Aye, what Ringo said above.
It certainly would make things easier if, for whatever reason, Kov comes back and just hands the ownership of FH to one of the admins, since he clearly has abandoned his creation. This way, it could continue to grow and be developed the way it was originally intended, and Kov wouldn't have to worry over the game, even if he just decides to wipe his hands clean of it all.
But, until then, we're mainly looking at texture mods, custom maps, and so on, to add any new stuff to the game.
