Please understand this is just an opinion thread and not a place to insult or be insulted. This is also a topic for the more mature people, so please do not reply if you are going to act childish. If any sort of this behavior occurs I will get a mod to delete/lock this thread.
So recently I have started a type of... experiment in FeralHeart. I've been joining many different types of mapped RP's and creating male characters. But, instead of making them crush on the females, I have made them go for the males. I ask the RP leaders before doing so, and so far I have not received a no. And as I've rped as these characters, everyone I have encountered is either completely on board with the idea, or just does not comment. I have yet to receive a negative comment on my character's sexuality. Since I don't want to join 10 billion RP's just to see the general reaction, I have decided to come to the forum.
My questions are: How would you react if you encountered one of my characters, or one with the same sexuality? Would you feel uncomfortable if one of them had a 'crush' on your character? Would you ever make one of these characters? Opinion on this idea?
If you do not like the idea, please just say so, but do not bash homosexuality. I know it is a very touchy subject, so please only post what you feel is appropriate.

I personalty don't care if a boy likes a boy or a girl likes a girl. We have to right to like ether gender. However if someone tried to be my mate that was the same gender I would not allow it because I don't like mates even if they are the other sex. But I would let gay characters in my group. I understand that some people don't like it and think it is weird. Also they may think letting a gay character in their group would start a fight between the player and other members that don't like it.
-
Personally, I never really got the whole "mates" thing and characters crushing on other characters. I don't know, I have had too many times where the player of the character doesn't understand the line between OOC and IC and it's just strange. :I
But I have had tons of characters that are gay, lesbian, or bisexual. It doesn't really matter to me, since I just pick a orientation I think will fit that character and..yeah.
To answer your questions: I wouldn't really care. I wouldn't treat that character or player any different then I would treat someone else.
I wouldn't feel uncomfortable as long as that person knows the line between OOC and IC. Some of my straight characters would probably not like that sort of attention though. XD
And as said above, I have created characters with all types or orientation. So, yes I would.
I wish sexuality wasn't such a big deal though..(Kind of getting off-topic but oh well)
It doesn't matter if someone is attracted to a male, female, or both genders. Love is what matters, right?

Hmmh, I wouldnt mind at all. I do have homosexual characters and have got many put downs and some great comments. I wouldnt mind if you crushed on my male charas because most of them are homosexual. No I am not gay in real I am straight. But me and my friend roleplay over Skype and we have bassicaly lost count of how many gay charas we have and how much Insest there is.
What I say is Haters gotta hate because they actualy guide you through some points to improve the experiance. Other times I just ignore them :D So.... Meh.

I have no problem with homosexual characters whatsoever. They're often very fun individuals to be around, much like those we encounter in real-life. In society in general, I think homosexuals are very important for many reasons, but I'm not going to list them here in fear of starting a political debate xD.
I can't say I have any homosexual characters in my character stash. Mainly because as a heterosexual person, making something homosexual isn't an idea that crops up immediently in my mind out of instinct or habit. I'm not saying straight people can't or don't make gay/lesbian/bi characters because that is not true. That is just how it is in my mind.
Sometimes I ask myself a question, (especially since I have a tendency to make realistic characters): "Can animals be homosexual?" Since we don't know for sure what makes humans homosexual, it's hard to say whether animals can be too. Although, we had a cat once, called Marvin, that we were convinced was gay, and our other cat was homophobic and that's why our other cat hated him XD. But in all seriousness, I see potential for an interesting piece of research there.
I wouldn't mind if a same sex character decided to crush on my character though. Since this is a game, it doesn't really matter who's crushing on you or not. And unlike the close-minded minority of individuals, I appreciate the fact that everyone has different sexual preferences.

Verry well spoken, And yes, Animals can be homosexual. For instant Lions can be homosexual, same with dogs, Cows to mount other cows when they are in heat, Cats are, Alot of animals hace tendancys to do what they have to do. Of corse we are realated to Apes some how and they are homosexual. I see nothing wrong with it, I find Gays/les and bi' people really sweet and I adore everyone because everyone has the wright to love and live there life the way they want it.

I have seen a 'gay' Warrior cat before and he was all alone, so i made a 'gay' cat to and they went out.
Spare you the details but sadly in the end they broke up, my char went straite, and the other char found a new mate ._.
I have no issue with 'gay' or 'Lesbian' players.

I never mind what a character, nor a player prefers. If it's female or male.
I think it's nice that people have some fantasy, and that they think in different paths than just one.
I've seen a lot of people who roleplay males, also putting it in their bio that they prefer males, or both genders.
I do however also agree with what BouncyLion101 said, about IC and OOC getting mixed up a lot.
But this happens in RP's at any point, not only when it comes to the mates thing.
I, personally, wouldn't be uncomfortable at all if I was on a female character and another female came over to me and started to flirt.
Nor would I be uncomfortable if I was on a male and a male came over.
Then again, I suppose it could always be nice to check with the person OOC'ly and then judge whether it'd be a good idea or not.
-
Nope, I wouldn't care at all. ^u^ I once had a friend who said "love is love, no matter who it's for." That pretty much sums up what I would probably be trying to say in a big wall of text right now. |D
So... yeah, I think that's it. Also, parrots can be homosexual too. They're very social birds, so they always need at least one flock member. For example, in captivity, you can keep two males or two females together in one cage and they will still allopreen and all that. *is a bird nerd*
-
Something in Ressy's post reminded me about something I forgot to add to my previous one.
I wouldn't mind if someone's character decided to have a crush on mine. But I would get uncomfortable if there was any flirting involved...but that doesn't have anything to do with them being homosexual, I get uncomfortable if anyone starts flirting with me/my character. It's just an uncomfortable situation to be in for me. xD
-
Pfft, I'm all for it! You can crush on my characters. ;D
Homosexual chars make RP different and interesting, and they also liven up the RP. They are very amusing to RP with since awkward or hysterical situations continually appear!
-
First off, I would like to thank you guys for posting mature comments and stepping around any off-topic talk that may start a fight. I really appreciate it :)
I'm actually quite surprised that some of you also have some of these characters or see these around, for in my three years of RPing I dont think I have encountered a homosexual rper. I would like to meet one of them though and see where it goes in the RP, if the other members will somehow treat us differently. But it is great to know at least you guys (and probably many other people like you) are fine with these types of characters and how they would act around you. I have a feeling with the new generations of players coming in we are slowly becoming more open minded with things like this, but I wouldn't be surprised if I find someone who is against this idea soon.
Then again, I suppose it could always be nice to check with the person OOC'ly and then judge whether it'd be a good idea or not.
This has also happened to me once or twice, where a concerned rper whispers me asking if I know how to separate OOC from IC. I of course say I know the fine line, and assure them if they are feeling uncomfortable that they should just tell me. So far no one has informed me that they are uncomfortable, but that is a good idea if someone does seem a little sketchy with their RPing.

I actually did meet a homosexual player and character once with his partner in a roleplay.
When they mentioned that they were homosexual it got really silent and one person said something extremely rude to them. :c
They left the roleplay after that to find a new one and I have never seen another homosexual character or player again.

That is extremely...sad. I have no other words for that. Did anyone try to stand up for the two?

Some people did, most stayed quiet and didn't say anything about the issue.
I was so disgusted with those people after that that I left the group shortly after. :/
-
That's very rude. And yes, by the way, I have seen homosexual mate beggers in general once! I laughed when I saw the advertisement. Something different for once, lol.
-
I'm not sure that I would react okay when female would have crush on me... Sorry, but that's me, it just isn't natural. I think persons that simply like same gender shouldn't be out of RPs, even if it's a bit unrealistic, I think there aren't any animals from FH that are like that in nature (so, yes, wolf and lion). Still, I'm totally neutral and I don't want to fight or act childish just like you said on beggining.

There's something I have always said to people I know, even if you have never heard me say this before. I say it very often to my people around that I know-
"I will never judge someone until I have met you and can judge you by personality, not sexual orrientation or what you believe in.
Never judge someone before you know what they are like. I would personally be happy that someone would want to introduce an idea into the RP that would be open such as this. A very smart idea, actually.
I understand there are some younger people in this game that might not understand bisexuality, but there is nothing wrong with it, nor is there a problem with it.
Some of their feelings might be different then ours, but hey. - I'm a furry, and today I was insulted with certain uses of profanity and "opinions" of others. Even if I didn't know how to responed, the comunity of FeralHeart is beg enough to stand up for one another, if there was such and issue if someone HAD said no, or showed negitive responses to the situation.
Good to know that some people really agreed though.
-
I actually have a bi character, and I'm obviously fine with any kind of crush. I'm also this way in real life. I get angry whenever somebody starts bashing another player (but I haven't been a target) because of being homo or bi.
-
All of my characters are bisexual, as I am in real life.
-
For role-play or real life, as I have no concern for gender, I have even less concern for character sexuality. To me, it all seems like a labeling. I couldn't care less about who is attracted to who, as long as you are not disrespectful to others around you and be appropriate in whatever you do. When you get to it, that's really all that matters. No matter who is your "mate" or real life girlfriend/boyfriend, being appropriate is really all that is comes down to.
-
In one of my RPs someone asked me if they could join and said "Is it ok if my character is "gay"? And personally I didn't think much of it. I don't think it's really "wrong" it's just different from the so called "normal". Although my opinion about this irl is a different story I don't think much of it when playing a game such as FH or WolfQuest.
-
I wouldn't mind anyways.
Even if I wasn't what I am (Which is Bi) I still wouldn't mind, because as people have said, love is love, no matter who it's for. I have a character who is a male who is gay and has a boyfriend, and honestly, we're quite happy together. I know that might seem a bit awkward as its a game, but he is very nice, and honestly, I don't give a fudge what people think about it. If they have a problem with it, I would prefer if they keep it to themselves. At least these people are happy. (I just rambled a lot, and somewhat got a bit more offtopic, as expected xD)
-
I as a person wouldn't be all that disturbed, but my character would let you know what they were thinking about it. Each has a different reaction to being come on to-- Everything from fear to obliviousness, bashfulness, aggressive, or embracing.
But at the core of it, I don't really have any issue with gay/bi characters.
-
Personally, I see no problem with gay, lesbian, or bisexual characters on FeralHeart. As someone who is bisexual in real life, it's also something that I enjoy roleplaying out and having a 'relationship' with someone else who enjoys it~
I have met a few people who were rude about it to me, though. I was in a pack and sitting with my mate, and one of the members asked if they could make a pup for us, so I said 'Well we're both girls, so I don't see how that would work :p' and they said 'You're both girls? o.o' So, I say 'yes, is that a problem?' and she says 'Sorry, I just don't like gay people.' I was pretty ticked off at her at first but we ended up making up and she apologized. c:
-
This is no problem. All of my characters are bisexual or gay/lesbian, never really 'straight'. I'm bisexual in real life, so I feel my characters should be too! :o
-
i definitely have no problem with it, as majority of my characters have varying sexualities such as asexuality, heterosexuality, homosexuality, pansexuality, transsexuality, etc. a few of my characters have crushes/mates in character, as well, and i would never mind anyone listing one of my characters as a crush or attempting to flirt with them - so long as they ask for permission beforehand, haha.
i also play around with different gender identities! most players, i've noticed, don't really pay attention to this or simply don't 'believe' in gender identities. a lot of my characters are actually gender neutral/transgender depending on who the character is.
personally, i really do frown upon those who believe characters in the game should not be anything other than heterosexual, as animals in the real world all across the various species often partake in sexual behaviors that are far from heterosexual. c:
-
I'm fine with gay, lesbian, and or bi sexual characters. I have made some before and no one minds. Everyone seems to be alright with it, it's a game after all. Short but it's my opinion I'm absolutely fine with it. 8D
-
In my opinion, if homosexuality is the choice of a mated couple, so be it. In truth, gay people are usually a lot more interesting and fun to hang around because of how open they are. However, I'm not homosexual, so I wouldn't become the mate of another girl, but I totally support the idea :3
-
I don't really have any sexual orientations, besides heterosexual, in any of my characters; but I'm not saying that I haven't had a character with a different sexual orientation, which I have.
I don't find it disturbing to see girls with girls/boys with boys, or really any other relationship, it's love.
Since I'm not good at role-playing "romantic scenes" with people, I don't normally welcome anything dealing with that sort of thing with great interest, but I wouldn't mind if a character with a the same sex as my character would start flirting or have a crush on my character; of course my character would most likely be blushing the whole conversation.
-Le cough; moves back to topic- It can be pretty dark in the world, and despite sexual orientation, people need love. :3
Love always helps~

Hmm, I'd honestly just shrug it off and let individuals such as yourself have their fun. I know some homosexuals and bisexuals in the real world and I'm not one to discriminate them just because of how they were born. They cannot help it. It's who they are. However, here I'm speaking out-of-character wise.
In-character wise, it all depends really. I own 5 characters (4 used for roleplaying), and some of them might give different reactions than what you might expect. For example:
Vespian (main character) will most likely become hostile around your character and will try to bully, or even kill, your character.
Malus will slowly creep away silently, hiding in the shadows until your character goes away.
Crier will merely shrug it off, or even go along with it, I know not with him for someone homosexual in-character wise hasn't walked up to him yet.
Etc.
Hopefully my response is satisfying.
-
Hmmm. That's a toughie. I'm straight in real life as I am unable to be otherwise(family issues yay \o/) so I don't know how two guys or girls would really feel when someone of their own gender comes up and starts hitting on them.
Plus, animals aren't humans and I try to make them react a bit differently while still a bit 'humanized'.
My characters don't have anything in their bios referring to sexuality, so it seems to be assumed that they are uninterested in the same gender. However, their doors swing wide open every which way-- I've just never been approached by another fe/male with romantic intent. :u

being bisexual myself, i tend to make most of my chars bi as well...i have yet to receive any ridicule, but i have seen other gays, lezes and bi's being picked on and bashed for their sexuality (i tend ta stick up for these people and help them out)...i believe if ya love someone and they love ya back, it doesn't matter if both are gals or guys...its like what BouncyLion101 said...its love that matters
-
I've never really had a problem with a characters sexuality, and all my characters are straight, and like me one is an aromantic.
One thing I have noticed though is when people put their sexuality on their names, "Jack M Gay" for example. I don't see why they have to do that. Might as well put your entire bio up there too. Not trying to be funny but I think those first impressions are what set people off.
-
I'm straight myself but I actually have an Asexual character (Mirror) and my male dog Jackie is bisexual but asexual at the same time.
I have nothing against people with sexualities other then straight, the same Going for their characters.
-
To add onto this interesting topic, my best friend on this game is actually bi! I won't say his name, just to protect him from haters, but he is so fun to be around! <3 I love him so much!
-
My opinion I believe people should be able to be on their business without being judged by their sexuality because were all equal and such. I don't like it when people would be like 'Ohh, shes/he's gay so I must hate and pick on her/him' No. I just despise it. I am bisexual myself and I know for a fact if it was the other way around I would stick up for what I believe in and for my sexuality. People can't help what who they fall in love with. If you're bisexual in Irl then you can make a character on any game that is bisexual because that is who you are! and be proud. :D Thank you for reading.
-
I probably wouldn't care as long as they don't want to be my mate...I don't like mates much, your mate could secretly be a pedophile stalker or something if you got them from mate center or just don't know them in real life. xD I would let a gay person in my group or party, I actually have a few gay friends in game...
-
slightly off topic but I have ever rp'd with a group and played a male when I am female irl and they didn't care.
I would never have a problem with it :)
