Title: Vale Map
Post by: WoodDog on April 23, 2013, 10:47:10 am
So I decided to try map making and here's what I'm currently working on:

If I finish this, it will be a public map, but for now I want to know if there's a way to put more than 3 textures?

Edit: Okay, so this map is now close to being completed, and I need some people to test it. Post here or message, and I'll give the link to download.

I have no idea how to do more than 3 textures but I am SO downloading this if you decide to finish it and make it a public map

Looks like it'll be a nice map.  c:
All that variety in terrains is really pretty and makes it more realistic looking.
^.^

Thank you. I do focuse more on terrain here and try to make it realistic and that's not difficult with a tablet. I don't think I could do that with just a mouse.

To answer your question--Yes, you can have more than three terrains. But you need two terrain masks.

You're welcome! Here's a hint: DON'T put terrain textures over one another. It'll turn into an ugly blob if you do :P

Do you mean mixing RGB or two masks?

Also, how do I change portal's position? I changed the destination position and arrival yaw but it doesn't seem to have any impact :|

Aaand another. Items I retextured don't appear when I test the map in-game. The materials I use are FH's default. Do I have to mess with FH's folders after exporting?

Two masks AND the RGB :\ Ingredient has a tutorial on portal-placing and not sure about the object retexture.

So items now appear, BUT I can't export the map anymore -_- Figured how to add portals, but they don't work. Brilliant. Added progress images to make it less of a spam.

Hmm, did you try redownloading FH? Also, you have to accept the save for export-ation.

No I didn't. But I removed all portals and now it can be exported again.

I would so download this map. It would be great if you're putting a forest in it.

This looks like it's going to be pretty good. As a map maker myself, I'm always looking for other awesome talent. Can't wait to see the final product!

Thanks! But one issue still bothers me as I get all kinds of answers -  I retextured FH's default objects and saved them in FH default folders, where I also put most of custom objects too, and I placed all those items in the map, would they appear for other people? (I heard it's better to create new groups for items you put in your map, and I wonder is it just to make things easier or to make sure objects show up at all?) And I also created some new textures for objects, would I have to include them additionally in download, or exporting is enough?

It is fine to save them into FH's default folders, but you should definitely have the objects used in your map in your own object group. Don't use the groups like MyTrees, MyRocks, etc. This is not just to make things easier, this will make sure the items actually show up at all. And the new textures should appear just fine once you export if they are in your own object group. Good to test this stuff with a friend or two and have them report problems before you release it to the public.

That's what I was afraid of - regrouping objects and then placing them all over again. There's quite a deal of them.

Not necessary. Go into the map's objects.cfg file and change everything. For example, where it says [MyTrees/PineTree], just change it to [YourNewObjectGroup/PineTree] :)

Thank you so much! I was hoping for a way to deal with this via file modifying :) If everything goes well I might actually have things neatly packed after all.

Hm but I still have a question, is there another way to copy objects between groups besides saving them in object maker?
