Title: Nobody asked for help, so why get involved?
Post by: Lady_Alizarin on May 02, 2013, 05:03:55 am
Have you ever had some random player come interupt a roleplay fight, squable, hunt, because they feel the need to step in and take sides? I've noticed that whenever I roleplay in a voluntary RP fight or hunt, sometimes some random stranger would come out of nowhere and try to help out in the fight or save the prey animal from being hunted.

Don't know what I mean? Here are a few example incidents.
This one warrior she-cat ASKED me to be a fox and kill her character as part of a roleplay plot. I even asked her "Are you sure you want me to kill your character? Is that really what you want?" and she said, "Yes. This character needs to be reincarnated."... or something like that. So I agreed and played as a rabid fox character. This is how the scene went. (The names were made up for the scenerio, since I don't remember all of them.)

Dovewing F: "The she-cat warrior saw a feild mouse scuttling through the grass. She crouched down and began stalking it."
Rabid Grey Fox: -The rabid fox clumsily stumbled his way down the hill. He was foaming at the mouth, and was disoriented and confused. He saw the she-cat hunting and began to snarl madly, foam dripping from his mouth.-
Dovewing F: -She was too busy hunting to notice the fox coming up behind her-
Rabid Grey Fox: -With a gurgling snarl, he charged forward at the she-cat.-
Dovewing: -She looked up and screached in terror- "Oh no!" :O
All of the sudden this random apprentice, who wasn't even in her clan showed up. But I went along with it
Greypaw: -She jumped on the fox and knocked him over-
Rabid Grey Fox: -He fell to the ground with a thud. He tried to get up, but he was too wobbly and weak from his illness.-
Random Red Fox: -She leapt at Dovewing and started tearing into her shoulder-
Dovewing: -She yowled in pain as she was being attacked by now two foxes.-
Greypaw: -He jumped foward and bit down on the red fox's paw- "Leave her alone!" she hissed.
So the fight goes on and on and on... skip ahead a few lines
Dovewing: I don't need you to fight for me Greypaw))
Greypaw: Well I was only trying to help you. How come you won't fight back?))
Dovewing: I'm supposed to die. I asked the fox to kill me))
Rabid Grey Fox: She asked me to attack and kill her))
Rabid Grey Fox: This was a voluntary fight))
Greypaw: Oh sorry. I didn't know ))

Here is a different scene that I witnessed. This took place in a lion pride out in Flourite Plains.....

Mother lioness: "I told you to stay near the pride. You disobeyed me again. Do you realize you could have been killed?"
Dawn lion cub: "I'm sorry, Mother. I didn't mean to wonder off far. I just got lost."
Mother lioness: "Lies!" she roared. "This is the third time you've run away from the pride territory. You leave me no choice but to punish you."
Dawn lion cub: "No please, Mother! I promise I won't do it again!" he cried. D:
Mother lioness: -She took her son by the scruff of the neck and started swatting his behind- "No means no," she said angrily.
Dawn lion cub: -He began to cry as his mother spanked him.- D'X
Random wolf pup: -He jumped at the mother lion and bit  throat- LEAVE HIM ALONE!
Mother lioness: -She pushed the wolf pup off her- "He's my son, and I am teaching him a lesson."
Random wolf pup: Hey I bit your neck. you should be bleeding. Why are u beating on him?
Mother lioness: This is part of the RP))
Dawn lion cub: Please go away, wolf pup))
Random wolf pup: Im helping you dawn!!!
Dawn lion cub: I don't need your help. She is playing my mother and she is doing what she is supposed to do))
Mother lioness: Yeah))
Random wolf pup: FINE!! Let her b a bad mom to you!!
and the pup storms off

I've seen other roleplays where people who were not part of the RP would get involve in the fight, or interupt the hunt, or want to step in. It's understandable that some people want to step in and help with a little RP disagreement, but sometimes help is not wanted. In fact, I sometimes find it rude that some people want to jump in the fight with their powerplaying/godmodding. For one, they didn't even ask.
When I was new to FH, I would do that too. Often times they would tell me to "go away" or block me, because that squable was part of their RP. So from then on, I don't get involved unless someone were to ASK for my help. I don't get involved unless someone says "Somebody save me!" or "Someone help!" Other than that, I just stay out of it and play as a spectator.

There have been times when someone would step in to help one of my characters, because they found themselves in a sticky situation. There was one time where this wolf wanted to protect Kopper and a fox kit from being harrassed by a clan of warrior cats. He wasn't the powerplaying kind of wolf either. In fact, he handled the situation really well in RP mode. But then there were times when I was fighting someone (Voluntarily) and some random person would come along and attack me with powerplaying moves. Really now?

Has this ever happened to you? Do you have any similar stories to share? Anything at all?

Hmph. Yes. I very much understand you.
I have witnessed some of those as well.
They can really drive you mad.
But I don't think it will stop happening.

I used to do that too, until I understood, that not all rps are connected, and that really, they are separet rps, that have thier own story for their own reasons, so I stopped. I dont think its ever happened to me though, maybe a few times with some good rpers, which I didnt mind.

Yeah, it gets kind of awkward when people just try to jump into your RP.
Especially when they aren't the right species for it either. xD

Honestly it's hard to actually help people who want help when you yourself don't know it's a RP. For instant, I'm at AI, and I overhear two peps somewhat fighting. I intervene to try to keep peace in the area till they say "Dude we are RPing...leave us alone" BI....
Kids these days man, how in the world Re others suppose to know if they are serious or not. Usually you will sometimes know when a RP "play fight" gets out of hand and being a good floof you will say something.

Why do we honestly get involved...well, one reason is the public area is rightfully for everyone, and younger kids don't really need to hear"Well I am lord of the ninjas and you can't do anything about it-inserts childish rant here-" I don't know...I guess being a little older floof then the rest here I sometimes do say something in situations like this

oh yeah I've been through that time and time before xD Some people get way to serious with the fighting in their RPs and I think that they're fighting in real life or something. Usually when that happens I try to whisper one of the spectators what's going on or I'd whisper one of the people fighting and ask if they are rping or not. Often the TLKers in Bonfire get into some heated RP fights that it's so hard to tell if they are rping or not.

Back to the basic topic though yeah I've been in rps and had people jump in out of no where and try to stop a fight or save lives etc. This one time I was playing a character that was dying of old age and this random wolf came in and kept revivng me lmao. I kept telling them that my character has to die but the wolf insisted that I didn't have to. Apparently this other wolf was some kind of immortal wolf who could make me live forever or restore my life and stuff... Dx After a while the person just didn't stop trying to revive me and other dead members of my group that we just gave up and let them do it. Since the person was very friendly and wasn't just being rude about it we let him get away with it and well I have to admit I kind of liked letting this random stranger come in and change things up in our rp. While the plot of the RP did change thanks to this person it added a little weird spice to the story so I can't say it's always bad when people randomly jump into a rp. Sometimes these random people who jump in help add an interesting twist to the story while others just distract xD

This happened to me when I was rping as a possessed warrior cat
<Terrorclaw M> He attempted to pin the kit and twist her paw to an awkward angle.
(Forgot their name) <Random wolf> She growls and picks up terrorclaw in her mouth and throws him to the other side of the cave (Which is like 20 feet away)
<Shadowkit F> Dude really?Thats pp))
<Terrorclaw M> I must agree)
<Random Wolf> Shadowkit I'm helping you run and get help already DX
<Aybess (a wolf watching our rp)> (Dude,it's an rp,go suck a -beep-)
<Random Wolf> Dude -beep- is a bad word!I am leaving! And Shadowkit I was trying to help!

I did the -beep- thing because there are 9 year olds playing this, and I don't want them going their mom/dad saying 'Mom/Dad what does -beep- mean? 030" So yea, that wolf was probably one of them. But anyway,I dun like peeps that are like this,it's simply a form of attention seeking.

I find it incredibly rude people do that. :/
I've had it happen to me a few times, and I've seen it to other people too. It's mainly just new players that don't really know how people roleplay here. But..still.

Oh well, people will still keep doing that. Some just don't know better, some are just rude. -.-
Really, all we can do is tell them that they should in OOC to roleplay with someone, especially if people are roleplay fighting.

If the roleplay's done in a public channel, it is technically free-for-all, but-...

Goodness gracious, it's beyond irritating.

Whilst it's difficult to deduce whether or not a fight has a planned outcome, it's likely best to ask for permission before diving between a warring duo; it could be part of a plot, an arching storyline- anything. You simply don't know! Perhaps they're merely fighting for fun- or wrestling to sort a dispute. Running in and spontaneously cleaving a canine's head off won't make the affair enjoyable for either party.

For example, one of my wolves, Skreel, was essentially tearing apart his brother after an argument had escalated beyond the realms of sanity. The outcome was planned (my friend wanted his character dead!) and lead onto a meticulous plot. However, since we were in different groups, we took the roleplay to local- in a distant corner of Flourite. When we got to the nitty-gritty parts, a Warrior Cat clan spontaneously decided that the very, estranged rock we were stood upon was their 'territory'. When we tried to ignore them, they... Immediately ran to my friend's defense and tore my wolf's throat to shreds- as cats do. We desperately tried to ask them not to intervene and allow us a few further minutes to wrap up the confrontation! Sadly, our pleas fell on deaf ears.

As much as I understand that public roleplay should allow anyone to join in, it's best not to entirely disrupt the fight and, consequently, ruin the roleplay entirely. People can easily watch-- and easily add to the atmosphere with a few, passive emotes! But directly thrusting yourself into the spotlight is terribly inconsiderate-- especially without asking for permission.

It's normally just people with no group or friends on at the time. I know how they feel lol, I would feel rude barging in on someone elses RP but it is impossible to have a good time on that game if you have NO ONE to be with.

Party chat is a great way to avoid this sort of madness. You can always invite your friends to party, and turn off local, which I've found to be quite useful! :P
Problem, Attention seekers?

I think it makes perfect sense that Greypaw would have stepped in.  Warrior Cats fight together as a team and protect each other if Greypaw was in the same clan as Dovewing it is completely understandable why he jumped in to protect his clan mate.  Also it seems that he backed off when told.

In one roleplay I was in we often had random characters trying to stuck their muzzle where it didn't belong.  We started roleplaying in the Cape.  Since we are Invader Zim characters we attracted a crowd.  One unrealistic pup started bothering Slurpy, who was playing as Gir.  If you had watched Invader Zim you would know that Gir is not all there in the head and also love small fluffy things.  So Slurpy acted like the character she was playing and tried to pet the pup.  The pup then clawed his head off?  Since Gir had lost his head many times before in our roleplay and in the TV show that didn't do much.  So Slurpy simply put his head back on and shot a muffin at the pup and the pup died?  Then our whole group was attacked by his parents and then more people came in and finally we all had to leave to another map because almost everyone was freaking out and trying to kill Ryan, who was playing as Zim.  After that we roleplayed in Temple Of Dreams but we still had some people popping in.

One person came in as a little white wolf with wings and tried to kill me because I was fighting Zim since I was playing as Dib who happens to be Zim's worsted enemy.  Then she kept trying to protect Ryan and tried to kill Slurpy because she was playing as Gir who was the one who was meant to protect Zim.  When we ingored her she left and came back as 'Female Gir' and continued to bother us, mostly me and Slurpy.  Slurpy just changed characters to Tak, another Invader Zim character.  The 'Female Gir' must have not checked Slurpy's username because she had no idea that she was still there just a different character.  Then she started saying she was married to Gir.  Now this whole time we could have blocked her but we found it funny are weird she was.  In group chat we made fun of her.

<Female Gir> I am...
<Female Gir> I AM....!
(In group) <Me> Completely insane.

There was also a wolf that kept yelling at Ryan to help her out of the water because she was dying.  She must have not known anything about the character Ryan was playing.  Zim HATES water, in fact it burns it skin off, and he doesn't give a *^&$% about anyone but himself and maybe Gir.  So Ryan ignores her and she comes back as her ghost and keeps trying to kill Ryan.  She started to powerplay so we blocked her.

There was another wolf that flirted with Ryan.  We just let it be because we found it funny that his wolf was flirting with a green little Irkan that wants to take over the world and kill everyone.  Then when Ryan tells her that's enough because she started being annoying she said that she had a boyfriend anyway who happened to be her real life boyfriend too.  Then ran off.  This hurt Gaz because of real life problems and we had a depressed time.  I have to interact with Gaz a lot because she plays as my character's sister.  Since the wolf ran off and we didn't block her she came back and danced on top of me.  Now we are all pissed at this person now and we all exploded on the person.  Then we blocked her.  I still today have that person on my block list.

Also once we went back to the Cape, I don't remember why.  We are just sitting and chatting in group and suddenly there are three people playing as Gir sitting all over Ryan!  Then they are start fighting over him.  Slurpy is just sitting there, looking quite confused while they all try to kill her.  We we not looking for new members and we didn't even say anything so why did these three people thing they should come in and try to kill us?  When we left for temple of dreams they followed us!

That's quite a story, Rusty.

Me and some RP buddies were recently interupted by someone who thought it was okay to get involved in our RP battle. The plot of the story was....
My unicorn fox character was turned into a mortal feline (warrior cat) to be safe from a demon that wanted to drive her into the ocean with the rest of the unicorn animals (kinda like the plot of The Last Unicorn) but this one had a different twist. When it comes to the demon character, no one is supposed to look directly into his eyes. If they do, his demon instincts to go out for blood will kick in and he will go on the attack. He would even attack his dearest friends, which were the cats of NatureClan and StormClan. So he started attacking everyone around him, including Dewstar. As the fight goes on, some random brown wolf comes out of nowhere and starts attacking Dewstar with her powerplaying. I don't know why, but she just did. When Dewstar started ignoring her, she said he was the one powerplaying. We were all like "Dude! Go away!" "Yeah. This fight is part of the script" "We don't need your help!" She probably didn't know that me, Dewstar, the clan cats, and the demon were all roleplay buddies just doing a voluntary roleplay fighting scene. So as the story goes on, the demon calms back down and heals all his friends and Amalthea
The End -closes book- .... Oh, and they all lived happily ever after. :3
