Title: Transparency preset help.
Post by: wolflinklove on July 02, 2013, 02:37:09 am
Alright. So making my first preset that's transparent  :-*. I'm using Gimp and I could use a bit of help on the coding since I'm new to this whole preset transparency thing. I've got everything the same in the notes but I have no clue what to type in since I go to the preset maker and nothing shows on the right side of the preset. Anyone know what I should type in?

make sure the end of the preset codes end in png, and so are the images for the preset

I've tried saving as a .png but a GIMP message always pops up so I can't save it. Normally it says I have to format something.

If you're using the latest version of GIMP, try going File>> Export and then when you are naming the file, add .png at the end.

Example:

preset_3body.png

And then press Export.

Also if you get a message afterwards that asks you to export it as a flattened image (or something), make sure you press the Export button and then Load Defaults if another box appears after that ;)

Thanks Ingredient. I'll try doing so. I'll post back if it didn't let me or didn't work.

Alright. I did what you said and I go into the preset maker and the left half is white. I'm not understanding why it's doing this.

Alright, I say we start all over. Have you tried looking at this tutorial?

I say you should use preset_8 for now as it matches up with the code.

No worries, jaywolf. I assume you're using preset_8 right? If you still need a little bit of help I can try show you how to work with the code and images.

Good luck with your preset :)

I'm using Preset_10. I'm just needing help on the coding for the most part. But the weird thing is, that when I go into the folder it shows the gimp logo not the Left side of the body.

Could you just click the image (once) and view it's details. Double check and make sure it's a .png image and not a GIMP .xcf file type.

Since I'm using Windows 8 I need to keep in mind that it's a bit different. I've gotten it open but it's saying, GimpShop image (.xcf) for the type of file. I'll figure it out some time. Thanks for the help Ingredient.

I've got Windows 7 so I'm afraid I'm clueless on Windows 8. I'm not sure how different GimpShop is to GIMP.

I think what you're doing is Saving it rather than Exporting it. See, with the latest version of GIMP images have to be Exported instead of Saved. Saving images makes them as .xcf formats.

Open your image in GIMP and go File>> Export or you can press CTRL+SHIFT+E all together on your keyboard. Go and export it to your preset's folder, my_preset>> Preset_10.

Adding the .png at the end of the image name is what makes it a .png image.

Once you've typed in the preset image name AND format, then click the Export/Save button. If there is no Export button in GimpShop then stick with the Save button. Just remember to add the .png at the end

Hopefully that should fix it :)
