Title: Map Problems!
Post by: Vask on August 10, 2013, 09:45:03 pm
I'm posting a new thread for others to see here. So, I got a map made (credit to ~CrystalWolfTear~) and there are technically two maps to it, connected by a portal. I downloaded both and put them in exports, like I was told, and copied and replaced any of the files with the same names. Now, the portal shows up, but whenever I go into it my Feral Heart crashes. I've re-downloaded Feral Heart, I've double checked to make sure everything was in place, and I don't know what else to do! If anyone has any suggestions at all please let me know, all further advice is much appreciated.  :)

When I had my old laptop there were times when I go into maps and I crash cause of the amount of stuff it had in them. I suggest that if you crash every time you go I your map you might want to change rendering systems from OpenGL to Direct3D9.

And how does one do that? Mind my computer knowledge. My level of computer knowledge is one of a squirrel. :/

Notice how when you crash and go to open FH again, you get a pop up box before sending you to the game?

If you click on the drop down menu just under the banner, you should be able to change the rendering systems from OpenGL to Direct3D9. ~ Sadly, on mine I can't do that and have no idea why so I have to put up with the crashing randomly xD ~ It's settled down now though so I'm not crashing half as much as I used to.

If that doesn't work then my only advice is to check your internet (May not be necessary), check the FH files (Again) and perhaps, if you really have to, re-install FeralHeart again. When I crash, I find I need to restart my computer but then everything's fine. That might work for you, if not them I'm stuck for how to help.

Good Luck

Well, I went to change rendering systems but it says that I'm already using Direct3D9 Rendering Subsystem. I clicked on the down bar just to see what other options I had and there were none. :/

See, that there is my problem xD ~ I can't change my rendering system either...

Try redownloading the map, there may be parts missing. Personally, I make a new folder and title it 'Extract' then extract the downloaded files in there so that I don't miss anything out. Perhaps that'll help for you too.

If not, then I've no idea o.o ~ Have you put all files into: Local Disk (C: ) > FeralHeart > Exports?

You need to change you rendering system manually. I believe you go to your Feral Heart folder, open "ogre" with Notepad, and you should see something like:

Render System=OpenGL Rendering Subsystem
[OpenGL Rendering Subsystem]

Simply delete "OpenGL Rendering Subsystem" and put:

Render System=Direct3D9 Rendering Subsystem
[Direct3D9 Rendering Subsystem]

See, flightsling, that's kind of one of the reasons Im confused. I went where you told me but there is not one ''ogre'' notepad. AND I'm already using Direct3D9 Rendering Subsystem. Oh and Nym, I did what you told me, and everything is there...I didn't miss anything :/

Well, It's naught to do with the map then... Try Flight's instructions...

Here, lemme simplify a little more what flight said ~

Go to: Local Disk (C: ) > FeralHeart

Find the file: Ogre.cfg and open it with notepad

Highlight and delete the first line. It should be:

Render System=OpenGL Rendering Subsystem
[OpenGL Rendering Subsystem]

Copy and paste this to the notepad (First Line):

Render System=Direct3D9 Rendering Subsystem
[Direct3D9 Rendering Subsystem]

Well, here's what happened. Ogre.cgf is a CFG file, and It won't allow me to open it with notepad. There is nothing there that allows me to do so, but, as previously stated, I'm already using Direct3D9 Rendering Subsystem, or at least that's what FH says when I restart it.

Odd :/ ~ It should let you open it. What exactly does it say when you try to open it with notepad?

That's just the thing. There is no option to let me open it with notepad :/

Hmm.. when you said that you copied AND replaced it you didn't need to do that. You must replace it, copying just doubles it and makes things go.. weird?

I've tried THAT as well, sadly. BigBangTheory

hmm, Then all I can advise you to do is ask the person who made your map to make sure it works properly and send you a new version of the map making sure all the correct files are in there..

Sorry for the double post, I just need this topic to get back up there. Please, anyone. I'm out of ideas.

All I can advise you now is to completely delete the Feral Heart folder, saving the things you might want, then install it again. I'm afraid I'm out of ideas, so that's the only option right now. Un-installing FH without deleting it's original folder doesn't really change anything.
